  When a JW relative came to visit . . . .

  for those of you who are shunned, it is in disguise a blessing.

  becuase when you are not shunned, jws come to visit.

  it is the most tiresome hosting you will ever endure.. for the first 2 1/2 days, it was straight talk about "jehovah", the "organization", the "bible", then, "how bad these times are", "can't wait to see someone dead in the new world" .

  I'm just so tired. It was not an enjoyable visit. I was constantly put on edge, insulted,my JW guests made references constantly to materialism, and selfishness . . especially the last day when they were not trying to make leading conversation to preach the Good News. I think this last day was pure judgemental becuase we have a nice home. Whatever. I didn't bother to counter. I just counted down the hours til they left.

  That would've been about the time to point out that they seem to enjoy the fruits of your materialism by staying in your nice home. You should reccomend a nice campground if there is another request to visit.

  Black sheep of the family-my life as an ExJW

  i was a 3rd generation jw, half the congregation i attended was made up of my entire mom's side of the family, 2 of the 3 elders were my grandpa and uncle.

  my first memory of the organization was when they announced my mom's name in the meeting saying she had been reinstated....it was 1988 and i was 6 years old....i didn't understand it then, but when i asked my mom why was she crying and why did they say her name in the meeting, she said "it's because i've been good!".

  so she went back and after a period of time assisting constantly, she was reinstated.

  Do whatever you have to do to let go of your anger, whether that be counseling or just posting here on JWN. Hopefully you are NOT allowing your mother access to your kids now that she's shunning you. Let her live with her decision.

  the financial aid offer came in.. the first year of attending is actually cheaper than what we were going to pay at the state university after their scholarship offer.. i mean, really cheaper.. we would be fools to turn it down.. they are even flying him in for the preview week.. .

  hello jwn!

  i don't get to check in here or comment as often as i would like because i have been working so hard at school...but i just have to share my news in hopes that newbees can see that taking the leap to enroll in higher education is worth it-.

  i am graduating this spring with a bachelor degree in art history, minor anthropology...many people (including nonjw's have given me flack for choosing a "dead end" career path) but since leaving the watchtower organization's group-think mentality and "leaning on my own understanding" instead... i decided to say fuck everyone else's opinion...i am going to pursue my passion to work in a museum as a curator or archivist-.

  7 years ago i started on a path i had long ago given up on as impossible.

  i met with my elders and told them i could not justify carrying on as a jw.

  i went and got my high school qualifications and my higher education diploma (a levels with distinction) in just 12 months.

  i'm 24 years old and i live in brazil.

  i'm a 3rd gen born-in jw and all close relatives in the borg (parents, grandparents, uncles, wife, inlaws) except my little sister (she's 16 and didnt buy jw doctrine).

  If she is willing to leave your marriage over a religion that she doesn't even understand, I say let her go. You are young and have plenty of time to find a real life partner. Count yourself lucky that you have no children, (at least I hope not). If you want to try to convince her a little longer, try apealing to her non-cult personality and not doctrine. Help her to develop her interests ouside of the Watch Tower cult. Just make sure you don't get her pregnant in the meantime.

  it's been 6 months now since my old computer died.

  a good friend of our's had a spare computer her husband never used so she asked me if i would like to have it.

  after cleaning it up inside and out i found out i could not remember my password and the e-mail i gave them i no longer use.

  The only time the Watch Tower files an amicus brief is when it involves their Almighty God, Money. The Jimmy Swaggart case involved sales tax of religious items and literature that were sold. The Hare Krishna case involved the marketing AKA: witnessing.

  Shirley W, please see LisaRose's post. Allen and Farrow were never married, nor did they live together. The article also says that Allen never spent a single night in Farrow's apartment. I think it's weird that Allen had an affair with his girlfriend's adopted daughter, but there is no point in having the facts misrepresented...Allen, Farrow, and Previn never lived in the same household together.

  A link to a very interesting article is cited below. First off, Soon Yi was never adopted by Woody Allen. She was adopted by Mia Farrow and her husband by the name of Previn, so technically Soon Yi was the daughter of Allen's long time girlfriend. Soon Yi was 21 when Farrow discovered the affair with Allen. Yes, I think it's creepy, but who am I to say what's creepy and what isn't creepy?

  Second, Allen and Soon Yi are married, still together, and raising two adopted daughters.

  Third, the initial accusations were made during a bitter custody battle. Allen passed a lie detector test, and Farrow refused to take one. Two of Farrow's employees later said that Dylan was never out of their sight on the day that the incident was supposed to have happened. Some of Farrow's employees also said that the little girl was coached by Farrow.

  Fourth, Mia Farrow has not mentioned the facts that she was a character witness for Roman Polanski, (who admitted having sex with a 13-year old girl), and that her brother has recently been imprisoned for child molesting.

  There are tons of other facts in the article that could make one think that the only child abuse committed in this case was by Farrow in brainwashing a child into believing that she was indeed molested just to get back at Allen.
