This video explains why there are shutdowns. Basically it is to slow the spread of the virus so that people who get dangerously sick will have adequate health care and avoid the overcrowding and lack of medical resources that China and Italy experienced. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZF-xvNeBZAs&fbclid=IwAR1W4Hc4naU1qiu_L_-h-Ygp7acvNrYxe7rxVToiBOwcWBEz8XkoSXOp3kk

Rec'd a letter from my Dad - need some advice...
by Fadeaway3pointer infader here - last meeting was in autumn 2005. lurker on this site and others.
not one to get all controversial.. typical situation, pretty much a born in and left the church at age 38 and never looked back.. i'm 53 now, parents getting older - late 70s but very active, dad is still an elder.. parents, in laws, brother and brother-in-law still uber active jws.. my family (wife and 2 adult children) out since 2005.. we have stayed close to our parents - we have treaded religion lightly and have had a pretty good relationship and have kept our personal lives and beliefs/opinions separated from them.
this was intentional - as we love them and do not want anything to cause shunning since they are getting older and want to be there for them and we respect their beliefs.. got this letter today.

Although this is very painful for you now, your parents shunning you will end sooner rather than later. They're in their late 70's and will need help when their health begins failing, and likely no one in the congregation, including your relatives will lift a finger to help.
My mom has shunned me for 30+ years and is now dying from cancer. And she has sent word to both my brother and me that she would like to see us to choose what we want from her possessions. This is really strange, because she was never a wealthy woman. Neither one of us has directly responded to her. I'm not physically able to travel the three hours it would take to see her. My brother, on the other hand, recently traveled there to see our non-jw aunt and didn't bother to drive the three miles from her house to our mother's home.
I suspect her motive in seeking us out is to assist in her care, but I'm not certain. From what I understand, there are jw relatives somewhat helping her out, but most of them are elderly and have health problems of their own.

by Nikki collins innow that i'm out if i ever do find someone and settle down and start a family, my parents wont be a part of it.
my dad wont walk me down the isle if i get married, if i have kids they wont know their grandparents.
oh and by the way i had my freaking tubes tied so as not to have kids in this system.

I've been out for 31 years and learned early on that it's important to have people in your life who truly want what's best for you and are safe to be around. No matter how much a jw loves you, they are neither. Any jw worth his or her salt would rather watch you die than have a blood transfusion. They would rather battered spouses either stay in abusive relationships or at least have ex-spouses keep tabs on each other to see whether they are "free to remarry". And jws have child molesters in their midst and either don't feel a need to inform others or have no idea they're around.

Aw, sweetie, you're the nicest, most thoughtful person I know! I just wish I was more mobile....would love to meet you in person. Speaking of mobility, I'm getting my left knee replaced the end of next month....yipeeeeeeeeeeee! Hopefully my right knee will follow shortly, and then both hips in a few years. There's still no recourse for my back, but with new joints in my knees and hips, who knows what I'll be able to do?!

The Watch Tower requires a couple to have a chaperone when dating. Since you're not baptized, she shouldn't be dating you at all, hence the suggested group outing. Please do your research before continuing your study. You're getting involved with a high control group.

If you live in the US, you may want to check out AmeriCorps, but you'll have to be 18. Even if you're a year away from legal age, making plans to leave will make the time go quicker. Once you're out, think about making friends before finding a boyfriend. In the meantime, your parents may allow you to go to a trade school or community college to gain job skills. Have you talked to them about it?
Time seems to stand still when you're young, because you have so much of it. But no matter how depressing your life seems, it won't last forever.
Here's the link to AmeriCorps: https://www.nationalservice.gov/impact-our-nation/state-profiles

Well, it sounds like things haven't changed much in Watch Tower world. I made a similar escape from an abusive jw husband about 30 years ago. Keep reading and thinking, and your cult induced phobias will eventually cease.

After watching A&E Leah Remini on Jehovah Witnesses I am going to stop hiding behind my Avatar
by Still Totally ADD injust got done watching this program and what impress me the most was the bravery of those x-witnesses to sit there on national tv and tell everyone how the wt.

no hidden faces, no avatar names and no disguise.
