ANNUAL MEETING ... Silverdome

i want to barf.

i was wondering when the hell samuel herd was going to shut up.. blab blab blab.... aren't we wonderful, oh we are so wonderful.. about the only thing that was said that i could see as being something which the gb would see as touchy enough to warant the multiple announcements for " no tape recorders, no video recorders and no computer note taking" would be the statement by herd that there's "going to be a lot off killing, billions will die ....in swift fashion".

and the other gb (fill in the name) who talked about being in the new world "in two hundred years".... wow.. that's leaving enough prophetic lee-way for the gb heirs to the thrones.. much emphasis was placed on the "...two roads to the new system ...the high road and the low road".

hi arachnia and welcome to the board...

you just totally summed up the way that I remember assemblies at the Dome being. That place is such a pit. Every year someone would start hopeful rumors that "this would be our last year at the Dome" because everyone hated it so much. What WAS with the smell?!!! Enough to make you pass out.

and this: "...."smilin, stylin' and profilin'" boy did that bring back a ton of awful memories *lol*

I'll tell you I still can't go in a dome for any reason without feeling claustrophobic. My husband graduated from a University where the graduation ceremony was held in a dome, and I barely made it through without running outside screaming into the streets.

i see so many seeming to be disappointed by the 'un-specialness' of the supplemental meeting yesterday.. i'd like to ask this question, how can it really matter?

deaths due to blood policy.. suicides due to child molestation.

and disfellowshipping.. tearing families apart...just for starters.. part of me wanted to believe so badly that there would be a 'big' issue that would cause the wts to fall, splinter and break into fragments.

jon gave me his password a few weeks ago and asked me to post to the board if something happened to him.

as some of you know jon had been undergoing cancer treatment since the end of july.

I'd like to ask this question, how can it really matter? Haven't they done enough already?

Part of me wanted to believe so badly that there would be a 'big' issue that would cause the WTS to fall, splinter and break into fragments. But I'm not that naive any longer. Look at the histories of other religions and they have managed to survive much worse: the inquisition, the crusades, just examples.

Why? Because people need to believe in something.

When I left, my need to believe led me to hope and pray that there would be an end to the Evil Empire and that my family would find its way out. I know now that is too much to ask for.

The organization will go on. The most I can hope for is that its numbers will die off as its population ages.

The best I can do for myself, and my family is to do all I can to keep them from claiming my daughter, and then to stop letting all this rule my life.

The UN issue will die down. They will manage to worm out of it the way they always do. There will be law suits over pedophiles, and I've no doubt that victims will win money and media attention. But I no longer let my need to believe mislead me into thinking that the Society will ever cease to exist.

There are people who will cling to it just as any fanatical cult, and that will keep it alive, in some form.

The victories come in with each individual getting out.

If you're debating leaving the organization, don't wait for some 'huge' issue. There is more than enough damning evidence already, there doesn't have to be any more. Get out and get on with living. Don't let them have another day.

Supplementary meeting: synopsis

the meetings were held in michigan (bibleexaminer), long island (nytelecom), san diego (elder families only), and here in toronto.. the stadium we used is the same we normally use for district conventions.

unlike the dc tho, which is spread over 2 weekends at the stadium, it was packed absolutely full.

it was very hard to find seats anywhere, just a few singles here and there and lots standing in the halls.

but...but...but!!! Am I the only one who didn't know that the society has now incorporated each Kingdom Hall seperately? I think that says a lot, because it sure provides for legal damage control.

I don't get why no one seems to think this is news. It was to my (inactive) JW Dad...and to me. If this isn't news, when did they do it previously and when was it announced?

I'm confused, but what else is new?

I don't know, Mox. They were news to me, so I just put it all out there. I'm sure there will be much interpretation and also variations from location to location as far as what was actually said.

Okay, I wasn't there like poor bibleexaminer was (can I offer you some pepto bismol, dear?) But my looooooongtime JW grandmother was. I happened to see her at my parents house when she got in from the big event.

She of course, raved about the GB members who spoke. It was hard to get any info out of her, she said she would "tell some interesting things" to my brother "later". Meaning, when I left I guess.

But I did get this out of her. It was said that each Kingdom Hall will now be its own corporation. There will be a body to represent the corporation made up of some elders from each cong. that uses each particular Hall.

She also made some breif, passing comment about how the "other sheep" now have "full responsibility for the corporate matters" of the organization. Then she hurried up to her room without volunteering any more.

I find it interesting that these things were casually mentioned among a couple hours of mind-numbing "experiences".

Last night in chat I expressed that I thought that the elders would be responsible legally now individually, but I was corrected. The "corporation" of each KH would bear responsibility.

To me this is big, but I guess in England it's been like this for a long time? (thanks Nelly for the info)

I think that it's a big deal that the GB has now removed themselves from the line of fire/responsibility from any inevitable lawsuits that will come with the pedophile cases.

Maybe I'm seeing something where there's nothing, but to me it seems like something.

God, I am so glad that my Mom didn't go. If she'd heard the comment about taking the 'low road' to paradise she would probably have swallowed every pill in her house, I am not kidding. She is so depressed already that it hasn't come thus far, the idea of another 200 years would really be too much for her to take :(
