I asked my husband's opinion on this too and he concurred with me that the bank account would be the best way to go.

That way, people who have pleged can write to you, T, and get the bank account number. Farkel would have to set this account up at the closest possible bank to him. Then people would be able to send checks/money orders and the money would get to him a lot faster, and no per transaction fees.

If any banks in his area offer fee free checking that is the way to go. Otherwise perhaps someone trustworthy who lives near Farkel can help him get the account set up and checks can be sent to Farkel in care of their address.

Just some thoughts. The more I think about PayPal, the more I think that it's not the way to go.

Also, this would help anyone who wanted to send money from another country, because they could simply purchase an international money order in American funds and then the money would get to Fark a hell of a lot faster.

Hope this helps. As I said, this has to be handled on a local level with the bank.

In lieu of this, I still recommend Western Union over PayPal, because the service fee is paid by the sender (not Fark) and the payment can be made to him in cash.

If anyone else has any ideas I'm more than happy to hear them.

edit: I should say I believe that the fee for Western Union is paid by the sender only. If that seems to be the way you're leaning, T I can find out.

Doug, I'm glad that you were able to see this thread. T is doing everything he can to get some help out to you, hang on.

Is it possible for you to set up a bank account at a local bank and then make the account number known to T so that we can send to you in ways besides online?

I'm so sorry for all the momentos you lost. I know that no amount of money can make up for those things :(

Yes, probably so. How about typing "Money transfer" or the like into Google or something and seeing what comes up? Maybe the post office/
Western Union has online options too, who knows.

So what basis is there to think he will accept money this time round?

I don't know, Prisca. But the man is obviously desperate. Right now I'm just hoping that someone can get in touch with him. Trilobite asked me to e mail AlanF (I did) and also Norm (Who I don't know how to get a hold of) to ask if they know how to get a hold of him, or at least to let them know whats going on. I don't know where Doug is, myself and I would like to know he's okay.

Why speculate right now? This thread is for brainstorming ideas as to how it could accomplished, no one has actually sent anything anywhere yet (this time, I don't know who did what before).

I don't think that PayPal would be the best option. I think a direct bank account in Doug's name in the area where he is would be a less costly option. But that would have to be set up by Doug or by someone in his area. More ideas anyone?

Productive ideas only, please. This thread was started as a gesture of pure love from one friend to another. Lets not muddy the waters with personal opinions as to his state of mind or 'forgetfulness' of kindnesses past.

What I'm trying to say (and badly) was already said perfectly by Lilacs:

Doug is in a depressed state at the moment and he doesn't need anyone telling him that he is complaining! He can complain all he wants as far as i'm concerned as long as he gets through this.

Who of us can really call him our friend if we don't do what we can, no matter how small, to help in his time of need?

Sorry to sound snapish, I'm unusually ornary this morning because all of this bothers me so much.

Hey Seeker,

The reason you only get 2 of the letters in the online test now is because they want you to pay for the full version of your results (which are much more indepth, and accurate. The shortened version generalizes the 4 types of each catagory, that's probably why you feel so much of it didn't fit. The long one would fit better.)

Even the short form is cool though!

AMarie, can you believe that Counselors make up less than one percent of the population? I'd say that that fact proves what I've known all along, that I'm weird but if I said that then it'd sound like I think you're weird too, which I don't *LOL*

And they said that Counselors are GOOD with words?

I don't know, I've never had a business account with them, only personal so maybe someone here who does will know what the fees are?

The thing that concerns me too is that PayPal sends a paper check when you withdraw the money from the account and unless we're sure where Doug will be, where will they send it? That is another concern.

I am sure all of this will get worked out tomorrow. I know I'm so braindead I can't think anymore tonight, but I will sleep on it.

Also, the other poster who is in some need apparently is someone that many of us love and respect. I hope that this will turn into something truly helpful for this poster, and for farkel.
