growing up a jw, i was well aware that a lot of people didn't care for my religion, especially growing up in a strong catholic community in the 60's.
my being a jw wasn't something i advertised, especially in my school days.
but that feeling was always there, that i was someone, who because of my religion, was disliked, even hated.. i sit here thinking what it would have been like to have grown up without those feelings.

JWs believe that being hated is a good thing (John 15:19 "...because you are no part of the world...the world hates you"). This increases the isolation that JWs feel and is another factor which prevents them from leaving
i was embarresed to be a witness too but when i look back i don't think people really cared that much what i was - it was just more mind control from the WTS.
i was just remembering some of the great sleep i used to get at the meetings.
towards the end i would sleep while reading for the bookstudy and the watchtower lesson.
who can top that?
My aunt told me a story of when I was two and had fallen asleep, after my spanking, I had to stand next to my seat until the meeting ended

I never fell asleep much even if i wanted to - i hav to be in a bed, preferabbly my own to get any sleep. can't even doze on a sofa. when i used to look after nan at meetings i just let her sleep the meeting away

my nan (jw) died march 2005, i was prepared aswel but still grieved and still grieve now too. it's lovely that you were close to her and visited when she was sick. my mom (jw, lovely lovely lady) looked after nan and i helped out as much as i could - giving mom weekends and meeting nights. i found it made it easier to bear - knowing i'd done all i could and a darn sight more than my witness sisters and uncle.
think of all the happy times with her.
i'm sure that you'll do her proud in the eulogy.
i don't get the impression that jw's really enjoy sexuality to its limit..

i am 26 , i was baptised at 12 (way to young to make that choice) df'd at 13, reproved at 16, and then finnally df'd for good at 19. i have been forced to leave behind my family and friends, but other than that have never been happier.
i just found this board and i am very happy i have, it is great councelling, and look forward to many great discussions.

My father molested me when he was an elder and i was 10 -12 ish When i eventually told 10yrs later he was still an elder he was "removed" but it was announced as "bro so and so is no longer an elder" and everyone assumed he'd stepped down and commiserated with the family on whata great elder he was and how great it must be to have him as a father.
Never df'd totally stumbled me. Especially as he was supported and i wasn't.
