Unfortunately people like Ariana are perfect candidates for JW brainwashing: gullible and wanting to believe in a promise of a better life.

June 12th is tomorrow, are you ready for armageddon?
by dawg inisn't tomorrow armageddon?
i think i'll sleep late just in case... an elder called my friends house and said that armageddon was almost certain to come this year; an urban myth stated that it would be tomorrow.
i guess i'll wait to make that car payment.

This is sad.
If Ariana is a troll, it's sad that we're wasting our time playing her game.
If she's being sincere, it's sad to see the JW shield go up whenever tough questions are being asked. The whole "wait on Jehovah" "Men are impefect" slogans are repeated over and over. I was that way, to an extent, when I was a JW.

My guess is that she's a study that's been brainwashed with the JW fairy tale. She thinks she's got everything figured out (like we once thought we had things figured out) and is angered that there could possibly be people that bad mouth her hope in life, the JW version of what's in store for those that become members. So she came on here to set us straight. However, I think she's going to realize that life isn't as simple as the JWs make it out to be.

Is the 2008 version of the Watchtower really about saving money?
by neverendingjourney inwhen i first heard of the new watchtower arrangement, i immediately thought it was another in a long line of cost-cutting moves.
i thought they were interested in cutting the overall number of magazines they print every month.
so if they printed 20 million copies every 15 days, they could now print seven or eight million out of one of the monthly editions and cut over 10 million of magazines a month.

I know that saving money was not listed as an official reason for making the change, but I certainly thought that was their motive. More than a few people on this forum have suggested that as the primary motivation as well. I mean, they've been cheapening the quality of their literature for years (soft bound books and Bibles). They cut back on the Awake issues already. Their numbers are not increasing in the industrialized world (where people have $), but they are climbing in the third world (where people don't have $). Therefore, it's my belief that they have to cut back on costs because the money coming in from the wealthy lands is not covering the growth in the poor parts of the world.

So what is your believe? what is your plan to save yourself?
This is a common objection that many JWs raise. However, it doesn't matter whether those that left have a plan or not. What matters is that the plan that the JWs are selling you is wrong. There's no reason for you to stay in that religion if you know it's wrong. Saying that other people don't have a better plan should not be reason to stay in a religion that's clearly wrong and wants to control your life.

My good friend got baptized when he was 10. Do you think a 10 year old is old enough to know what the Bible requires of him or is this the society's way of locking in members by making them accountable and punishing them when they leave. There isn't a court in the country that would try a 10 year old as an adult, but the Watchtower is okay with letting 10 year olds make a life-long vow of loyalty to their religious organization.

We should do what he ask since we are the only ones who will benefit from it
I don't think you're doing what Jehovah is asking from you. You are following what a group of men in Brooklyn, New York, tell you that Jehovah is asking from you. Think about the implications of that.

I am not awaiting on which day this will happen.I only say that it will definietly happen someday.
Do you not care that every prediction the society has ever made about this has been wrong? Do you think Jehovah would lead an organization that has never been right about any predictions it's ever made? Did Jehovah do this with Moses when he used him to lead the Isrealites out of Egypt? Did he tell Moses that he would bring about certain plagues and then not follow through? Did Moses need new light to explain why his words didn't come true?

Ariana:
PLEASE think for yourself for just a second. The society has been saying that end was just around the corner since Charles T. Russell was preaching 130 years ago. Research how they actually came about picking 1914 as the start date for Jesus' invisible reign as King. Even if you accept 1914 at face value, it's been 93 years since Jesus supposedly began his reign. What happened to the teaching that the generation of 1914 would still be around for Armageddon? They changed it when it no longer makes any sense. They changed the meaning to say that the word "generation" means an era, so the era of 1914 won't pass away before Armageddon. Do you think we here living in 2007 are from the same era as those of 1914. Are people that fought in the Civil War from the same ear as those that fought in World War II? Of course not! They're playing with your mind.
Their teachings don't make sense. They try to protect themselves by saying that if people make fun of them for their teaching then that just means that the Bible's prophecy about ridiculers is being fulfilled. But think about it, people mock weird religions like Scientology all the time. Does that mean that Scientology has the truth? No. Think for yourself. 10, 20, 30 years from now they'll find a new way to get around their prior teachings and keep their members thinking that Armageddon is imminent. Don't give another year of your life to this religion. Enjoy your life now. It's the only one you have. -

Hopefully she sticks around, Eclipse, and sees that there is more to the "truth" than what the society tells its members.
