i looked at cults disgusted. and cults were for me almost anyone but the JWs. mormons, 7th day adventists and of course scientology.
i was so glad that jehovah had saved me from this crazy world. its hard to accept that i wasnt saved but neck-deep in it.

What was your perception of cults?
by brinjen inbefore you realised you were in one...... did you picture pale sickly people in robes who had all their members living in villages?
or was your 'mental picture' a little more "human?".
how does that image compare to now?.

What's the worst thing that happened but you still made it to the meeting?
by RULES & REGULATIONS inno matter if you are tired, sick, worked late, heavy snow,or any other reason, you were never to miss the meetings.
i went to a 2 day assembly with 4 teeth pulled the day before.
my gums were bleeding all day but i still went to the assembly .there was a brother who was in a bad car accident the week before with his daughter in a coma.

every meeting there are ones ill with a cold or something and sneezes and coughing but still attending. i hate that. makes the meetings a bacteria mothership all the time.
i did it too though. ill, work, service, meeting, all on one day. -

Are You Afraid Of Death?
by serotonin_wraith ini'm not afraid at all.
i'd like to experience a full life, and do the things i want to do before i die, but death itself just doesn't frighten me.. i was unconscious for several hours last night as i slept, and experiencing nothing feels absoluely fine.
before i was born, i went through the same thing- nothing (for several billion years or more infact).

Just reviewing my years of non-appointment as an elder.
by AK - Jeff ini had 'reached out' to be an elder for a decade before i finally understood the reasons why i was not, nor would i ever be one.. each visit of the co, my name was on the list of discussion.
i know this because i was told by both co's and local elders.
the vote was always close, sometimes i missed the cut due to 'low hours' on the part of my wife or daughter, othertimes due to some variation in the way the wts was looking at particular 'requirements'.

hey AK-Jeff,
do you know what my still functioning JW mind tells me IMMEDIATELY when i read your post?
i tell you: "hes angry about not getting appointed as an elder and thats why he left the truth and became an apostate. the elders guided through the holy spirit saw that lack of love and humbleness before and thats why they didnt appoint him at all."
and i bet thats the thing your whole ex-congregation thinks. isnt it sad?
im sorry for my JW mind. :/

Do JWs actually believe the things they're taught?
by R.F. inthe governing body has much control over the lives, thoughts, actions, etc..of many.
i was thinking of the "new light" policy and this gives the gb virtually unlimited power to do what they want.. take this for instance: we know how doctrines such as no trinity, no hellfire, and no immortal soul, are all considered the core beliefs that will never change.
lets just that today the gb just happens to reverse them all...what would happen?

many JWs thank god for his wonderful new light when a doctrine changes.
i remember the district convention when the new light regarding the generation was told. everyone was so happy. applaus, applaus!
in the end a doctrine change is proof for gods blessing.
incredible but true. -

Elders ARE idiots!!
by Gill inthis has always been my opinion, even as a 'loyal' jw!
i thought that elders were idiots.
i have only ever known one who has ever had any real education, a solicitor and he was an arrogant twonk, the rest were a pathetic bunch of bullies who 'appeared' to be loving and kind but were infact out to find out the shit about everyone and cause as much trouble for everyone as possible.

Marcel
many elders i know are really loving misguided men. some of them even intelligent.
what was that quote someone posted here yesterday?
it was like "good humans act good and bad humans act bad - religion is the only tool to let good humans act bad."
thats just true. no elder-hatin' necessary. -

whats the backgroundmusic of the "more information here:"-yellow colored page from the original post?! its great!
edit: i found out! its "No More War" by "Bronski Beat". google is a beast. -

Quote of the day
by loosie inwith or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things.
but for good people to do evil things, that takes religion.. - steven weinberg

Anyone else have an aversion to singing?
by AllAlongTheWatchtower ini was reading the threads http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/6/129051/1.ashx (remember the song make the truth your own?
) and http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/9/136242/1.ashx (the messages are always there), and was reminded that i had been intending to post something along these lines before and never got around to it.
note: i was raised in the wcg (armstrong), not a jw, but i've found they're similar in many ways, and i believe this to be another one:.

i like singing.
but since i dont have the voice and talent to do it i dont do it. through my whole life ppl kept telling my that i cant sing. i guess its not THAT bad and that i actually can sing an average lil bit - at least with training. buts thats all.
