I knew his father, then. I believe he ended up on the Bethel Service Committee (can't remember if that is the right term?) in El Salvador w/ D. Piccone. Lots of money.

Any Dave Matthews Band Fans ?? Your favorite CD's or Songs by Him ??
by flipper ini have enjoyed seeing this musician explode upon the music scene in the last 15 years or so.
his mix of blues, jazz, rock & roll with great musicians playing uncommon instruments seen in a rock band - make his music all the more interesting !
here are some of my favorite cd's and songs by him and his band .

Responding to "It's the truth because it follows the Bible, ..."
by OnTheWayOut in"it's the truth because it follows the bible, rejects the trinity and hellfire, engages in worldwide preaching.".
i hear that from the jw's in my life.
the last time, i challenged the aspect of a worldwide preaching work.. i said that the work is barely scratching the surface in 2/3rds of the world- muslim, hindu, buddist lands.

Ok this:
If the WT is the true relgion because they follow the Bible, for instance they take notice that the bible places birthdays in a negative light so they shun them...why does the WT not take notice that only 1 haircut was mentioned in the bible and this had disastrous results? is classic. I just spewed coffee all over my keyboard. Brilliant!!!!

Interesting factoid (I actually heard this talk but it was years ago and I have no recollection of the brother or the name of the talk. It was one of the "special" talks where someone from Bethel comes to your area and everyone gathers around, not an assembly talk. There was a tape of it floating around as well).
Years ago (maybe someone can find it on the CDs - I don't have them anymore) there was a "throwaway" article in the WT about Jehovah personally loving each individual. The letters, apparently, poured into Bethel in response and there was a follow up section in one of the magazines with some of these letters (not a questions from readers). Apparently, it struck a chord because so many did not feel that they were loved personally by God.
Supposedly (in this talk) the GB was stunned and realized there was a huge problem. The talk that I heard was the basic outline of the Draw Close to Jehovah book. That reaction to that minor article was why they wrote DC2J.
I think this is a common problem and they see it as part of the retention issue - why would anyone stay in such a rigid structure if they didn't feel emotionally connected?

Direct quote from their website:
"My next suggestion may be worth far more to you than the price you paid for this book. Use someone who is an unusually active member of the Seventh-day Adventists, Jehovah’s Witnesses, or the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormons). Unlike those from mainstream religions, you will seldom if ever find a longtime member of these three religions in jail unless – as in some countries – they are there for their faith. These people believe their Creator is watching them and most would rather die than steal. The only problem is, will they want to clean your home or your carpet?"
You could always reply to the email and point out how Jehovah is obviously blessing the Mormons and Adventists as well. HA!

Current & Former Elders- Will You Help Witnesses - Get Out of the Cult ?

Two thoughts - it would be sooo great if we could put topics like this under private discussion because faders like me can be reluctant to reply for obvious reasons.
I am fading because there are people I would like to get out. But - how do you apply those principles when your entire family is 2nd and 3rd generation? No one had any time ever develop a personality outside of the cult personality. There are no "happy" memories, no "real" personality to bring out.

Actually...unless things have changed dramatically which I highly doubt - they only use married couples in pictures like these (wouldn't want temptation to arise by putting an unmarried sister and brother together. In. A. Picture.!!!) So - not only did they proceed with their theocratic marriage, she actually is stuck married, to a guy that wears THAT shirt. Ten bucks says it came out of the clothes donation bin at Bethel!

Hmmm...ok...so...the newspaper articles about the pedophile settlements are the work of lying apostates and you can't trust anything put out by the media, but THIS article in the same media is trustworthy....hmmm....say it with me, people...Cognitive dissonance.
