Why is the label (or not) important to you?
by Georgiegirl inminimus' thread (plus the massive research i had to do this weekend; my head is still reeling) made me wonder -.
why is labeling your experience with jws as an experience with a "cult" important to you?
there are so many heated opinions on this (for both sides).

Oh! And for the record, my paper is part of a larger dissertation on cults, brainwashing, and thought control. For those of you who don't know anything about me, I'm out and have been for a couple of years (so you don't have to convince me about the harm - grins). This is strictly an exploration into the strong identification many seem to have with the word cult and with applying it to the WTS. I'm curious as to WHY that label is important to those who have left.

Time of The END ????
by wobble ina number of religions ,not just the wacky dubs, claim we are in the "time of the end ".
now, leaving out silly numbers and 1914, which was blown away years ago, what do such apocalyptic doom-mongerers have from scripture to give this idea credence ?.
the only thing i can think of , apart from the "cry of peace and security " which is no proof at all, is daniels dream image in dan chap.

Why is labeling your experience with JWs as an experience with a "cult" important to you? There are so many heated opinions on this (for both sides). Is the word cult a "loaded trigger word" for us kind of like "apostate" is for them? Is it that labeling it is the only way to make sense of what happened? Is it that there isn't an intermediate word somewhere between "religion" and "cult" so we default to cult?
Note - this thread is not about whether they are or aren't - that's what minimus' thread is for.

I told my wife I will start pioneering next month ...
by Albert Einstein in... if she will prove me from the bible accuracy of 1914. and i stressed i really mean it.. we had one of the usual evening discussions and this was the result.. she said she is not ready for this and must do some preparation and aditional study (which is funny for somebody raised up in a hard-core jw family, baptized over 25 years, who spent over a decade in regular pioneering, reads wt for hours every week and have brought several people into jw cult...).
but ok, she pulled out several publications and is doing her preparation now and tonight we will have the discussion.. to motivate her i told her:.
1) if you will be succesfull i will go to preach to everybody in our street about 1914/607 during my pioneering.

I mean this in all sincerity, but she really is slightly delusional. With your record, does she SERIOUSLY even think you could pioneer? I'm surprised she is jumping through the hoops!!! Good luck!!! Can't wait to hear how it goes.

Brilliant Talk Yesterday
by Violet injust thought i would share this.........a brother who used to be a mercenary before he came into the truth gave the talk at the hall yesterday and he said that the bible was like jehovah's cv.....it told us everything about him.....so we can really know him.. he also said with all the governments and all the rules and regulations in the world, and nothing working at the moment, we should appreciate that jehovah only has 2 laws.............love him above all other things, and love our neighbours..........if only the whole world obeyed those 2 laws there would be peace without the need for armageddon................so its all down to humans why things are going wrong.. if we abandoned the planet tomorrow the earth would repair itself and there would be peace and harmony in nature.......... man has really messed up.. thank goodness we have had the chance to know jehivah and have a hope for the future!!.

Does the label really matter? If so, why?
I find this enormously interesting since I just finished alot of research for a major paper I'm writing on cults. One thing that sticks in my head was something I read - "One Man's Cult is Another Man's Religion". Another point was made that many sects that started out as cults have become mainstream religions. In my personal opinion, that is what we see happening with the WTS now. It is evolving. It still retains major cultish characteristics and beliefs. Unlike scientology, it lacks the $$$ and the ability to quarantine its members which means that little by little, freedom of thought is inevitably creeping in and people are leaving. Are they God's organization here on earth? No. One only has to look objectively and do the research to know that. However, remember that people IN a cult NEVER know they are in a cult. The cognitive dissonance is too great to see and accept the reality.
There are alot of destructive cults at there. The videos I have watched, people I've spoken with, and things I've read are appalling, and frankly, make the WTS pale in comparison.

Get a new form from hospital patient services. Have your mom sign it in front of witnesses (not the JW kind). As infuriating as it is that the doctors are not discussing care with you, legally right now - they can't. A proxy is not forever, it is just until it is revoked or changed. If your mom is telling you she didn't understand it b/c of language issues (or whatever) simply get a new one.
Edited to add: Your mom has the right to change or revoke anything she chooses as long as she is cognitively functioning (i.e. not in a coma, not dementia or alzheimers, etc.) However, it cannot be changed FOR her which is what the social worker was saying - in order to have it changed FOR her, a psych eval would have to be done to ascertain that she was not competent when she signed the form. As long as she is competent NOW, there shouldn't be an issue. Get a new form. You can even google to get samples of forms that are valid in your state - still - try the hospital patient services first (or admissions office).
