The Official What happened at the Memorial thread

i thought rather than everyone start their own topic relating their experience of attending the memorial, we keep it simple and have just one thread.

if anything, it's saves bandwidth.. i will be going to the memorial tonight and will post my experiences afterwards.. all the other memorials i attended, i was an active jw, so this will be my first experience as a submarine witness.

it's weird being on the other side so to speak.

noni....I had mexican food tonight too....but I took it home.... $14 for a big order of fajitas...but its enough for at least 2 meals .... with rice and refried beans and guac.... and a huge bag of chips and salsa....

i had a local elder call 3 times today... never left a voice mail...so I didnt return his call...

now I am headed to bed...taking maalox (just in case....lol.).. and a sleeping pill (as always)... and a niproxen for my ankle (super size aleve)...

and maybe some spearment tea... and a calm demeanor...not having had to attend that lousy non-event...

Anybody know about statutory rape - especially Illinois?

there's a 19-year old in the family (non-jw) who got his 16-year old girlfriend pregnant.

from what i can tell, that could be considered criminal sexual abuse in illinois with a potential sentence of up to a year in prison.. anybody know anything about this?

especially in illinois?.

As an active JW, did you find the Memorial to be special?

even as active jws, my wife and i always found the memorial to be anti-climatic, overhyped.

it was supposed to be the most important event of the year, but it just felt like another meeting.

i just never felt compelled to have to go.

I knew it was overhyped when I finally became an elder. I knew it was really hyped the year I gave the Memoral™ Talk. It was also the same year that the Society introduced the "SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT" to be read at the end of the event... just another WT Informercial about the Special Talk™.

4 hours and counting... I am headed out to do other things... not going to the Memorial...lol

hate the memorial meeting tonight

i have to go to the memorial tonight but i hate it.

i feel so bad today.

i feek sick all the time and i nearly fainted this morning.

M-time is about 4.5-5 hours away for this time zone... I am not going. I am going to the office, then I am going to get some carry out... and then going home and watch Survivor... much more interesting than Memorial. I may lose my remaining JW "friends" if I miss a second year in a row...

I dont envy those who are pressured directly by family to go to this Time Wasting Non-Event.

Did you feel "Stoopid" when going out in service?

man, i always felt like a complete idiot!!

dressing up in a suit riding around with a carload of other "stoopid" people speaking "stoopid" shit!

wtf was i thinking??

oh yeah... I hated every second of field service. Even (and especially) when I was a regular pioneer. I did it because that is what I thought God wanted me to do. Ironically, I often admitted this fact from the platform, even during public talks... I would say "we go out in service because that is what Jehovah expects of us...but ...do you reallylike it?" long pause..... "cause I gotta tell ya..it's just not a natural thing to go knocking on strangers doors to talk about an unpopular topic..... and to be honest...I really hate knocking on doors." {{gasp}}.....from the audience...I could always tell who the elders were in a cong I was visiting...their eyes would bug out.... and then the nervous twitter of laughter..as I let them in on the joke...

"and yet brothers and sisters, we go out in service because we looove Jehovah....right?" Then everyone relaxes as they zone back into their Borg-induced coma..... and yet I would get invited back repeatedly..... to tell more zingers like that one....

...zingers such as the times during a public talk when I called certain unannounced shepherding calls ... "Gestapo Visits".....yeah that was fun ....as I counseled the elders from the platform to show kindness by scheduling an appointment...... (something the Society told them and often was ignored...gotcha calls were a power play)...those talks always got the loudest applause and best response...well, except for most of the elders...and I still got invited back...go figure...lol....

so yeah...I hated service....fake doorbell ringing....light knocking....work by myself...volunteer to drive the group....suggest return visits and coffee breaks (once I figured out that taking the breaks got me out of door knocking, I quit criticizing the long breaks).... offer to "go back and get the car" (which was parked a block or two away)... offer to keep the car warmed up/cooled down..... yeah...I got out of a lot of conversations at the door doing those strategies...lol

i think that is great.

blogging could be the next big phase in combating the influence and propaganda of the watchtower society.

Meeting other ex-JWs

how do you meet other ex-jws in your town safely?

i've tried meetup.com, apostafests, but they always only have about 3 or 4 members and they happen to be far away.

I met up with a bunch at the Toronto Apostafest in Oct 07 and that was a blast...nice to put real names to real people behind screen names and avatars... hearing their stories told me I had made the right move. Those fests are the best because they are in public locations.

I am seriously thinking of putting a Meetup group together for St. Louis...there might be enough interest.... of course, in doing so, I am taking a chance on being outed from my fader status and getting an upgrade to apostate status.

What part of Georgia? My non-JW brother (raised in it, never baptized) is north of Atlanta.... I may be making a trip down that way in May...

ummmmm... I don't have time for repeats...and I gave the talk a couple of years ago....I still remember it....can't get it out of my head. (true)

I tasted the crackers one year (afterward)...they taste awful...and the wine is no better. (true)

Just had gastric bypass surgery....no room for memorial emblems... (not really)

I am having exploratory surgery and the doctors say I have a 90% chance of finding a life..... but if I go to the Big M the chances drop to near zero. (no surgery...but my chances of finding a real life are increasing exponentially the longer I stay away).

If I see a certain racist elder I will drop kick his a$$. (this one is true).

I have an appointment with ...... I will think of something. (true..I may hide my car in the garage if I am home).

Radical lumpectomy of my a$$.....because the elders are still on it. (actually, no elders have called on me in official capacity recently..and none have invited me to the Memorial at all).
