do you remember as a jw those pseudo-thanksgiving dinners we used to have?
you know the ones, where we ate turkey, dressing, and all the rest....but we did it on friday so we woudn't be celebrating thanksgiving like the "world"?
the excuse was that everyone in the family was off, the turkey was on sale, blah blah... well this year will be my first real thanksgiving dinner.
well she made the pie with shells... i think it will be fine...she had enough pumpkin batter to make 3 pies...we started eating one of them because she forgot to put foil around the edges and they burnt. We just cut off the crust..we are eating that one ourselves. Also, whipped cream covers a multitude of sins. I put foil on the next 2 and those turned out fine. She bought a couple of extra crusts...and I poured batter into one without first baking the crust..sh*t... so I poured the batter out, baked the remaining fourth crust, poured it into that one..and baked the "ruined" crust with pumpkin on it... turns out the supposedly ruined crust ended up being "Pumpkin Crisps". I nuked them in the microwave this morning a few seconds and I have been snacking on them with my coffee...lol
so this morning she is grumbling about getting out of the nice comfortable bed (sleep number 35...lol).... with the comfy 400 count sheets...oh...and apparently she added me to her list of reasons for not getting out of bed...the 8YO slept a lot yesterday because he is recovering from an earache, so of course, this morning at freaking 430 am....he comes into the bedroom and wants us to get up! we told him wait until 5 and watch tv in his room.... and we would get up... coffeemaker went off at 5....her alarm went off.... we got up..I made her travel mug but the 8YO had poured the dry part of the cereal...so the 3 of us ate breakfast together... then off to work she went...
...leaving me to start cooking. I can cook. I can bake. but ....I have never cooked a turkey or this much food for that matter...dinner for 7...we are having roast turkey...and beef rump roast...the latter which is now in the crockpot.... in a couple more hours I will add the taters, onions, carrots, and shrooms to that ...it should be done by 230...I hope. The turkey has been thawing in the frig for the last 24 hours...I moved it to the kitchen sink.... recommended thawing method is submerge in cold water and change the water every 30 minutes...really?... I can barely find my keys let alone remember to change water.... so I filled the dishpan with cold water and I have a small stream of cold water running ..which keeps the water cold and fresh... I just go in and flip the bird occasionally.... (yes...I know...)
Of course, my dear bride to be wants mashed potatoes...and I hate instant...so the peeling of 5 pounds of taters also falls to me.... I told her I was going to take them out to the garage and run them against my sander....lol....kidding... I washed, peeled, and cubed those bad boys.
Then the onion, pepper, carrots and shrooms for the roast.
The good thing is that the 8YO realized the futility of being awake at 6am, so he is back asleep.
I thought about baking cookies.... ...drink my coffee...check on the 8YO....

I got distracted and never did hit submit...lol....an hour later I have baked about 3 dozen chocolate chip cookies....the kitchen is clean to this point..all the dishes done so far....I hate working in a mess and I have limited counter space. The 8YO finally woke up at 10...1030 the veggies go in the crock pot...the turkey goes in at 11 (cause the boss called and said so..lol).... so back to my coffee

Well this year will be my first real Thanksgiving dinner. In the 2 years since I left the Organization, this will be my third Thanksgiving but the only one that I am actually going to be involved in dinner prep. In prior years, as a bachelor, it was too much trouble to cook a full turkey dinner for one (though I know how to cook). So I usually went to the deli at the local grocery store and got turkey and stuffing and all the fixings in single serve containers and made myself a pumpkin pie.
That changes this year. My fiancee took over her family's traditional dinner after her grandmother died. Apparently her mom is not such a great cook or just isn't going to be bothered. I was looking forward to it...until I found out that my dear bride-to-be elected to work Thursday morning...their bakery cafe will be open until 11 am to get orders out and serve breakfast... meaning I get to watch the 8YO and start the turkey in the oven and the roast in the slow cooker.... and any other baking I want to do before the turkey goes in. ah hell...
Then she tells me she is making pumpkin pie...yes...my favorite. Then I see pre made pie shells in the freezer... what? That's cheating. I can see it for cheesecake, as it is merely graham crackers and butter to make it all stick together...but frozen shells? ugh. I am looking up my crust recipe and see if I can intercept this travesty. LOL....then again, I will have an 8YO along for the ride....decisions decisions.
I want to bake some cookies or banana bread or something too. Of course, I what I haven't said yet is that her folks....well, they take the "fun" out of dysfunctional. I have made it clear that any bad behavior (meaning tearing my fiancee down as they often do) will result in a taking aside of the violators and given a choice: be nice to her or leave. I ageed to the whole dinner thing here on the condition that her parents can't emotionally hijack the dinner. So we shall see.... they always wait until I am not around to start their crap on her then it takes me 2 hours to calm her down.
Oddly enough, her mom likes me...we used to work together in a discount retailer about 20 years ago. Her dad likes me because I agree with him on some things...and because my work schedule allows me to take care of the 8YO in the morning instead of being dropped off at their house at 5am by his mom. And as long as they treat my fiancee right, I will like them.
so wish me luck ...lets hope this turkey day dinner is not a disaster...... we could have taken the easy way out...a friend of mine and her husband invited the three of us to their house for dinner for a homemade meal.... le sigh... If I survive it, I will post it (and yes, JD, I know.... WGAS?)

i mentioned the 2 nosy jw elders poking around my house 2 weeks ago (and posted a week ago here..and cannot believe it hit 2100+ views).... let me add this disturbing update...no..no jc yet....no word from the 2 old lackeys either.... my fiancee and her son and i were at a winery/restaraunt last sunday (a bad place for an 8yo...overpriced food unappreciated by a kid) when i looked over at the next table on the rooftop deck, overlooking the illinois river, and seen what appeared to be 2 jws ladies and an obviously not jw man with them... on closer look, the one woman was a single jw sister who had a thing for me....and i was chairman of her jc for fornication (not with me...lol).... and another sister..and her non-jw hubby.... i am certain that the single sister seen me but didn't say anything.
i actually recognized the ubm first.
as they were leaving, the married jw sister came over...i introduced my fiancee....and the dub could not help but mention this "wonderful" jw elder that moved into their congo at the request of the co....he is wonderful like roaches are wonderful.....but i digress.

Probably just report on the facts.
I prefer that to some of the sensationalism of some of the other networks. I am sure 20/20 does it too... though I find it interesting that the blurb specifies JW.. other religions dont get that special mention

I thought about WGAS.....figured it out before I pulled that link.....and ya know what...I post for my own therapeutic value and for those who do give a s*it...... and if J. Doe doesn't, oh well. I didn't expect so many to read let alone reply.
There are many threads on this forum that don't interest me...and even if I do read, I am not compelled to post on 99% of them, especially lately...have too much other good things to do...
road trip.... if you all come through here we are in the middle of the US....I-55, I-64, I-70 and I-44 all run through this area. Love to see any who can detour here... could go TP a KH....lol... kidding...I have better things to do with my 2-ply than waste it at the place that knows better than anyone how to waste time, money, paper, and lives.
