the title of this series of threads is rhetorical.
i am going to answer it with my own experience.
before i do that, i want to discuss what we are told through the literature and the instruction that is given during meetings, assemblies and conventions, for the reasons why people leave the truth.. the watchtower of 15 november 2008, in the article help them return without delay indicates people leave because of the following:.

husband finds missing wife dead in the snowby lisa demer.
published: 01/01/10 5:41 am | updated: 01/01/10 5:41 am.
An Anchorage man who reported his wife missing on Sunday found her Thursday afternoon, dead and lying in the snow next to her religious meeting hall.
this is very sad....
was last seen by her husband, Edgardo, the evening of Dec. 26, police said. When he got home from work around 4 p.m. the next day, he saw she had put pillows under the blankets so that he would think she was still in bed. He called police to report her missing
and a side note to the purpose of this board...what does this tell us about how much field service the witnesses are doing now... husband last sees her Saturday night, goes to work. comes home from work thinks finds her gone..she tries the pillow trick so he doesnt know she has gone to the meeting Sunday morning? Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday...no one goes out in service from the KH? No one finds her in the snow pile? I have to assume no one was there for 4 days. When I was a kid I lived in Juneau in the early 70s...dubs were always out in service....no matter the day of the week. Why did no one think to check the KH? White coat or not, something is wrong here.

belgium branch pedophilia letter to the boe.
i have received recently the attached copy of a letter dated january 26 2000, which is supposed to be an official communication to all congregations in belgium, giving instructions on how to deal with pedophilia cases.. .
i am interested to understand if this letter, from the belgium branch, .
sm:
Communication with CO is never generally in the same letter as BOE's
incorrect. funny how you put "never" (an absolute word) with "generally" (which allows exceptions) in the same statement.
When I was an elder I did see letters to elders that are sent out to both CO and the BOE's...either as addressed to both or with one or the other as "cc:" (carbon copy..an archaic abreviation if I ever seen one..LOL). And I did see a similar letter in the US when I was still an elder.

willyloman:
Translation of the minutes from Annual Meeting:
"The generation you thought I was talking about is not the generation you thought I meant."
Yoda/Barr: "Generation doctrine remember you do not. Preach nonsense you will."
Yoda/Barr: "Good. Now, donuts and coffee eat you will, but long you will not be."
JW RF: "Yes, doooooonuts. Short coffee break. Very good Master."

i wanted to get some opinions on this.. the last few years i was active as a jw, i thought that the door-to-door preaching work was the biggest waste of time.
you rarely got anyone home, those you did get home were rarely interested, and it seemed like a huge waste of resources.. in line with that thought, i was speaking with a gentleman at work the other day - he is a very active pastor in the community, and him and i have gotten to be pretty good friends - we have had a ton of interesting conversations.he recently moved his church to a bigger location due to past and expected future growth.. he was telling me that one of his big concerns was the fall-off of church attendance in our area.
he had a company actually come in and do a study for him with census information, demographics, etc.

but it also gave only an illusion of supporting the massive printing operations at Bethel.
ironically, I helped run the Literature Litteratrash Depot at an Assembly Hall here in the midwest for 12-15 years. I can remember when there were months, especially around annual items time (bound volumes, year books, etc.) that we would get 15 pallets stacked high with lit and it came in on a Watchtower owned semi. The last few months that I did this waste of time (sometime in 2006), we were getting only 2-3 pallets, not all of them full, and they were being sent LTL (less-than-load) via "worldly" carriers...it would be trucked to the shipper in NY, sent via rail to the midwest, where a local LTL semi would pick up the lit and unload it....
I think that very little literatrash is being placed in the field these days... the last time I did door-to-door in Dec. 2006, I used only tracts and a bible, rarely placed, or attempted to place, anything else..... I did early morning "witnessing" with 2 or 3 others from 7am - 9am...driving to the same empty laundromats and leaving new not old magazines....because no one wanted them in the regular door to door work.
As to people even answering the door.... the least likely time to catch people home is midweek. Saturday mornings before 10 there are lots of people home...but the average meeting for service doesn't even end before 930am...and the groups often stop at their same tired magazine route calls before heading to the same tired territory (which may not even be covered once a year instead of twice)..... getting the same people with the same poor results.
I dont know why they use this method anymore... except it is no longer about reaching people...its about counting time and busy work.
Glad I am not doing it anymore...

well....the fiance and i set up the xmas tree last night.
i've been out for seven years now and amazingly this is my first tree.
it's pretty cool actually!
good for you! what fun to actually enjoy this, eh?
I put up my first tree this year.... it is my fiancee's tree... it seems I am the only one that ever turns on the power strip for the lights (which is a sorry 2 strands and a lit topper).... couldnt find any blinking white LED lights in the stores.... too late to get any it seems
I will try to encourage its dismantling before Jan 1.... I like the tree and all...but so does my cat...she loves batting at the ornaments and once tried to climb in the tree...
merrychristmasall...

i heard the tell tale clattering noises..... yet...did i bother to back anything up...noooooo.
did i go to the store and buy that external hard drive with the automatic back up software?.....noooooo.
yep...hard drive crashed....data unrecoverable (probably is recoverable but for what cost?..
agonus:
You lost your hard drive to THE WORLD?! Why, oh why, didn't you heed the warnings and keep that DANGEROUS APOSTATE MATERIAL off of it?!
nah...safe and sound here in my desk..just can't get anything off of it.....lol...
will have to try the freezer or dry ice trick.... when I can find time..

I have just about finished writing my story for posting here and over at Freeminds. It is kind of long.
I posted this comment about 2 months ago on another thread...and...you guessed it...it was saved to my Desktop... no printed copy or backup...
...so I lost it and I have to start over......probably take me another 2 months to retype it...lol...
merry christmas everyone...

I have kept the drive....I had heard of the freezer idea before...I will try it one of these days when I get some time. I wish I would have had time to install my own hard drive....labor was twice the cost of the drive....at least the shop I use (and the fellow who owns it and the place before that) is reliable and honest...they cap the labor at $195 no matter how much time they spend. Only once have I ever hit the cap (today was that day).
I had to reinstall some apps last night so I could work this morning. I am keeping my email online instead of on the drive from now on. Printing out important docs and photos.... saving stuff to a external drive and a dvd.
A few years ago I lost 10 years worth of financial data in Microsoft Money....no prob...I had 2 recent backups....yep...both failed.....
One thing is certain....starting from scratch makes things a bit simpler..and I want to keep it that way.
