what is especially bad about the local needs parts is that on the Service Meeting schedule it rarely if ever stated what the topic was going to be. It just said "Local Needs...... Brother Pervert"
If the elders were doing what the Borg directed, they would discuss the topics as part of their quarterly elders meetings. The topics would be known well in advance. Publishers could then know in advance if this was going to be appropriate for their preschoolers or not....
...oh wait.... that's right..... in a cult you don't get choices. They spring this crap on you out of nowhere and you have nowhere to hide. If you get up or just leave, then you are viewed as an immature prude who cannot handle a supposedly mature topic. Or...you must be embarrassed because you are doing whatever it is they are discussing....wait for your JC invite to an investigational inquiry.
As a single brother I never was allowed to give those sex talks...thank goodness. I would have refused it anyway.
And as a talk coordinator...I would not schedule the sex and marriage talks unless the BOE or PO directed me point blank to schedule it....unlike the Local Needs talks...the Public Talks usually are posted weeks or months in advance...giving people ample opportunity to visit another congo or just stay home and have sex......

I received this crap from my JW mom today. I hope it doesn't "encourage" you to go back . Her email had the opposite effect on me. It tells me I made the right decision leaving the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society, The "Christian" Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses, et al.
You see, when I left, I immediately felt the relief of not being burned all the time by all of the gossip that occurs within the congregations, circuits, etc. I was not consumed by the constant need to "Do More™." I was an elder and regular pioneer. I gave my entire life from age 4 or 5 until age 40 to the pursuit of Theocratic Goals™. Everytime I was pulled down a notch or two, I would fight my way back up the ladder. I reached all of the goals that I had set for myself except CO. After MTS, I realized the whole religion was a scam. The whole CO arrangement is nothing but a managerial technique for the corporation to keep an eye on its congregations -- better and more accurately known in the early days as "Companies." After 2002, I began looking for answers. It took me another 4 1/2 years to leave. I gave up chances at careers, education, family...all in the pursuit of the all consuming glag of "doing what Jehovah wants," but in reality slaving for Watchtower.
So, if you are someone that is still in the Organization, and you are lurking on this board reading this...know that I am not some "crazy apostate" but a former JW that did all that he was told and then some. When (and very likely not if but you will) recieve the below email..and I am sure it has made the rounds multiple times in the past...think about what the "Fire" in the illustration (because no way in hell did this "sheperdng call" actually happen...how dare he mess with his hosts fireplace)...REALLY represents ...not the warm glow and support of the organization...not the supposedly warm love of fellow brothers and sisters.....but the burning consumption of a cult and the harsh embrace of fellow cult members.

When I was given so-called Private Reproof (aka Unannounced Reproof) back in 1991, I was charged with being "double-tongued" (lying). The people that were called in as witnesses (other than the initial accusers) were told they had to testify or they would go down too. The question that was asked of each or the regular pioneers in that meeting was: "Do you think Brother {Snakes} lied? Yes or no?" Any answer or attempt at explanation other than Yes or No was met with an interruption by the chairman of the meeting. Uanimously then I was accused of lying. Interestingly, the two elderly regular pioneers that would have backed me were not invited to the meeting of regular pioneers. Nor were any of us told that the whole thing was a JC in sheep's clothing.
In another congregation, I was accused by an elder in a multi-page letter to the society of all kinds of sins, including lying. Included were supposed quotes of different ones in the congregation. The letter caused my reappointment as an elder to be delayed 10 months. When I was eventualy reappointed, I got my hands on a copy of that letter. I showed it to those quoted publishers...they were horrified. They either never said it or were taken out of context.
Elders who want to get you will do whatever they want. It is why I let them remove me back in Dec. 06.
If you go, screw with their heads. Either way, with multiple predetermined "witnesses" available to the elders, you are going to be DF. Good luck to you...but in my opinion.... skip the meeting.... get on with life.

For Christmas I got her a flannel nightgown and slippers that she had been eyeing in my Land's End Catalog. She was wearing the nightgown in bed......the new slippers were with all of the other shoes lined up by the living room door. I got something else she wanted from VS. .
LOL at outlaw... I got my ass chewed out yesterday afternoon by my fiancee because the 8YO penguin wouldn't put on his coat when he got out of class when I picked him up... I was told it was 40F and he needed a winter coat.... I had a coat on but a light one...the 8YO said he was hot...I took him at his word...let him keep the coat off. He had a shirt on, he was fine. Not so much according to my heat-resistant bride. Under 50 winter coat..... I thought it was warmer than 40.
After my lovely bride to be and I went to bed, I got back up to check the thermostat (now programmed for 68 between 2pm and 9am...60 between 9am and 2pm when she is not here)..... and i also checked the National Weather Service web site...it said it was 51F at the time I picked up the 8YO..no wonder he said he was hot with the coat....
... I turned off the computer, gave the cat a final pat......slipped back under the covers...snuggled up to my beautiful gal...and asked her what she thought the temp had benn...she said 40........ told her 51.....she called me an ass.....and started trying to wrestle me. ...the night ended with us laughing and falling asleep....yes...just laughing and falling asleep...she had to work this morning...damn..no time or energy for anything else. lol

I dont... she did at her old apartment....now if I can get the two of them to swap out rolls when it is running out... I bought a two roll wire rack that hangs over the side of the toilet tank..... it seems like they both use them equally so both rolls run out at the same time... I even keep extra in the bathroom closet in reach... no luck... I am the changer of the paper...lol...toni even said to me: "I bet you $5 that you cannot let both rolls run out before going into the closet to change the rolls." I told her I would lose the bet... she was willing to give me five bucks to let it go to the core... can't do it...drives me nuts... I change the roll out right before it goes empty and set it on top of the new roll...

Much has happened since I walked away from "The Truth™" and when I can get a few minutes I will post an update. I also owe FreeMinds a story...one I have to rewrite after losing my hard drive. I have learned my lesson on that and bought an external hard drive with autobackup...
Meanwhile, just a real life story on my adjustment to the nearly married life. (nearly since we were not able to get married on our first available Jan 8 date...we are now looking at end of May) Things are going fine with Toni and (her 8 year old son) and I. They moved in with me back in September 2009. I posted one of my real life threads back then:
We have our usual ups and downs...a few minor disagreements...but we never go to bed angry. One (of many) great things about her is that we can talk and do so honestly, so we generally avoid the escalation to arguments...I hope it can stay that way. Her son is starting to settle down, certainly a dramatic improvement in him since his initial days here. Still some concerns, but I think time will smooth things out. "Problem" is he is too smart and too logical to be 8. Yet, he is 8. Thus the conflict with the kid ...
To the main point of the thread. (note to our non-US posters, temps are in Farenheit not Celsius). This morning, as has been the case since the temps in our area started getting so cold (as in zero the other day), the discussion turned to the topic of the thermostat. I have a programmable thermostat in the living room and each day it has a different program, changing 4 times a day. During the week, I have it set overnight to 65F. Half hour before she has to get up for work, it goes to 68. When I leave for the day a few hours later (around 9), it goes to 60 since it is only the cat in the house. Since I am not made of money, no point in lining the pockets of the local utility. Before my fiancee is scheduled to come home from work around 2, heat goes back to 68. When we go to bed at 11, it reverts to 65. So the coldest it gets when she is here is 65.
This is where the conflict comes in. She gets cold easily. Diabetes, though better than it was a few months ago, does not help with her blood circulation. Not so bad when she is cuddling with me under the nice toasty comforter in the sleep number bed. Bad when she has to get up to go to the bathroom. Before she gets out of bed in the morning, I get up and turn on the space heater in the bathroom so it is toasty (75). She is still cold with 68. Temps outside have moderated overnight back into the upper 20s/low 30s.
When we are taking baths and/or showers, she overrides the thermostat to 73. Now, I have to tell you, at 73 degrees I am boiling up. I am down to t shirt and jeans at that temp. I dont object to the 73 for a few minutes. She always puts it back after baths are done. Right now the discussion is over the 65 versus 68 overnight. She was going to throw in the towel and just "live with" 65. I am willing to (and when I get back home later will) change the program to 68 overnight. I can get used to that. I dont want her to settle on something to avoid an argument (something she has done in the past during a previous marriage to avoid conflict..a whole other topic). I want her to be happy and comfortable. So it will go to 68 overnight.
By the way, the temperature change is a pretty big change for me compared to when I was single. When I was single, it was always 60 overnight and I just put a small space heater in the bedroom if I wanted it warmer. She shudders, literally, when I tell her that. LOL
Anyway, life is good...weigh in on the thermostat debate if you like... I can take it....
