Interesting bump. AS... Since you originally posted this, I left the JWs. Ironically, I was a member of a Patient Visitation Group (a sub group of the HLC) -- elders whose sole purpose was to visit JWs in assigned hospital(s). (Likely it was PVG NOT HLC that visited you back then). HLC for the region was only brought in for emergencies and preliminary issues to avoid problems) for 2 hospitals in my town. I never got a call from the hospital and I believe the other members of our group rarely did either. We usually found out from JW relatives. HIPAA is taken seriously around these parts. Unless a patient specifically requests a JW elder, the hospital pastor is the only one coming around for a spiritual visit.

I no longer carry that ridiculous piece of JW paper (No Blood Card) in my wallet but have not replaced it. I will need to do that pronto. I know my non-JW fiancee will respect my change in thought, but she has no standing ahead of my JW mom if decisions are to be made until we get married. ... unless I get this in writing.

Since my fiancee is a paralegal student, maybe I can have her draw up the paperwork or go online and download a new form.

One of my nephews passed away this evening

he was 23 years old.

he was depressed and took his own life.

no one had any idea he was contemplating something like this.

absolutely. DH nailed the explanation. And it is sick.

DH and I were eyewitnesses of this informal/unspoken code in that particular congo. We were both in the same congo as mimi's nephew before DH was DF and I was deleted as an elder and left. I don't think I am revealing anything that DH and I have not already revealed online here and elsewhere.

At first, I was afraid that by bringing up the "A B C" thing, that I was derailing the thread. In reality, it likely, at least in part, goes to the heart of why mimi's nephew was depressed. He never really fit into the congo. He was quiet and often walked around the KH with his head held down. He did not look people in the eye often, at least in my interactions with him. However, I worked in FS with him and his brother and mother and grandmother regularly. I enjoyed his company and found him to be highly intelligent and a decent kid -- young man I should say. It was very difficult to get him to open up and talk. In my opinion, I think he got baptized to try to win the approval of his mother and the elders (including myself) and those around him. That is myopinion based on my observations. Maybe I am wrong. It has been 4 years since I seen him.

Such a sad ending to a life that -- with proper nurturing and not JW "Encouragement™" -- who knows what great things this young man could have accomplished.

I was shocked when you called me last night and told me what happened to your nephew. I am truly very sorry to hear this happened.

Of course, I was an elder in his KH when he was younger. Sad to say, I "encouraged™" him toward baptism because of a conversation I had with him one summer at the DC. Shortly afterward, his mom (your sister) and grandma (your mom) came to me at the KH and told me how happy they were because of R making his decision to get baptized as a result of the DC and my "kind conversation" with him. In reality, he and his family were always on the C list (not even the A or B social lists) at the KH. That family was always marginalized and it made me sick as an elder to see it. His mom and grandma are still marginalized by the new regime of elders at that congo.

Though of course suicide is horrible both for the victim and the family, I hope he now has the peace that he was never allowed in his family and at the congo and that I believe he so desperately sought. We will never truly know what was going through his mind in the moment he made the fatal decision. I hope this wakes up his mom and grandma.

R was a fine young man and I was honored to have known him.

I hope farkel changes his mind regarding posting the rest of his story. Based on his long posting history, I have the utmost respect for Farkel - though I have not had the privilege of meeting him personally or talking to him on the phone.

I wish that the person(s) attacking farkel would go away. But I do not run this forum. I am a mere guest here. I wish the attackers would remember that they, too, are merely guests.

i posted a while back, i've been studying with a nice jehovas witness lady for probably about 6 months.

after a few weeks i googled a few things (earthquakes, how long we've been on earth, ect.

) i realised she was very misinformed.

welcome to the board. Of course, now that you are dumping the witnesses, you have no reason to be here. Kidding, of course.

I was deep in the witnesses before I left 4 years ago. I come here now for the social interactions about non-dub things and only occasionally comment on JW things. So I hope you stay around and share your regular life.

I keep in mind that my JW mom is deep into this cult. She lives in the south now (Alabama) and, now that she is retired, goes door-to-door constantly, much to the dismay of her non-JW husband (my stepdad). For my mom, she believes the Witnesses to be "The Truth™" even with her doubts about the Organization itself. She keeps "Waiting on Jehovah®" (a phrase the JWs like to toss around when they can't explain bad behavior within their ranks) to fix the problems within the cult. She has "Bible" studies with people like yourself. For many of them, it is a social call, especially the elderly women she studies with -- my mom is a breath of fresh air and is truly kind and thinks she is doing what is right. But these people (her "return visits" and "Bible Studies") are never going to become Witnesses.

So just be nice to your JW visitor. I am sure you will. She could be my mom. They are someone's mom.

Repost: My Two Week Consulting Trip to Bethel

since half of them ended up at my house on friday and saturday nights i was given a very shining report card.

he then told me that he would knock on my door bright and early in the morning to take me to breakfast with him and his wife.

a couple of them told they enjoy the articles i write in the art magazines and they were really happy to meet me.

to be honest with you, it reminded me of a police crime scene investigation with yellow tape.

i think you'll find this interesting and also disconcerting as well.. to all bodies of elders.

when I read this subject line, I thought for certain the WTBTS fools were going to ban the rebinding. I mean, an elder couldn't hide the fact that he had this done. Maybe a bunch of them did (I am presuming that these are softcover not hardcover) and that the books are going to fall apart quickly. First time an elder shows up at a meeting with it rebound, all the elders and the CO knows.

Know my next thought about this letter? I no longer care. Progress. Very little in WTLand matters to me and what little does is only because of my JW mom. Even that is a mere blip on my life radar.

New resolution passed at last service meeting? crazy!!

so my ex who has gone back to the wts and is being given the tough love and is questioning whether shes makin the right move.

she told me at the last service meeting that there was a resolution passed that stated that all leftover balances in the congregations accounts would be sent to the society to be used where the need is great, to help out with natural disasters etc and that the funds would be sent back to the congregation if they needed it.. has anyone else who is still in or knows active witnesses heard of this new resolution?

apparently its everywhere in canada as far as i was told .. .

The way the accounts paperwork is kept in most congregations, and the way resolutions are filed -- or not filed -- it does not take long for people to forget that the money was ever sent to the Society in the first place. Anyone ever seen the inside of most congregation's filing system? Dear God FSM.

No, except for the elders, and even most of those forget after a time -- and maybe a couple of the large donors (usually elderly) that get bent out of shape for their money going to Brooklyn Walkill Patterson (oh wait, Rampau or wherever the hell their new compound is moving), no one remembers that the money ever existed. Back in my old KH (Death Valley Wood River) Except for one old sister that used to write down everything in the accounts when it was read, no one paid attention. (A***, you still doing that dear? After the UN debacle, you are on this site, ain't ya? LOL)
