  What's the deal with Cheese and Apple Danishes at conventions.

  this was before my time, but there was this post that had 308 comments testifying that the best thing of being a jehovah witness back in the day was the convention's meals.

  is this true?.

  Our assembly hall in St. Louis, MO USA, had soft serve ice cream machines. I remember working the literature depot ( where congregations picked up their monthly shipments) one Saturday and told my fellow worker I was going to go across the parking lot to get ice cream at the main hall. Back to back SADs were happening that weekend, so there should have been ice cream.

  Nope. Some over eager but ignorant brother emptied the machine and "cleaned" it. It APPEARED clean, but it was not sanitized. When the two of us working at the depot looked in the machine, it was empty...but tell tale signs of bacteria had already started growing.

  The resident assembly hall overseer was gone that weekend and a comittee guy was filling in. Had no idea how to fix it. My buddy and I had both helped others disassemble and sanitize before, but never had to be in charge. Took the two of us several hours (after working the depot all day) to figure out how to take it apart, clean, sanitize, reassemble and refill with soft serve for Sunday.

  If we had not had a hankering for ice cream, the crew the next day would have been different and unaware of the horror that awaited them. How many hundreds of people would have been ill if they just dumped mix in and served it? I shudder to think.

  On another assembly, same location, we had some strawberries (for sundae topping) that had been left too long and were fermenting in the fridge. THOSE were delicious on ice cream and made the afternoon session more palatable.

  But what happens if she wakes up from the matrix?

  Widowed. All alone in rural southern US. Which is better knowing or not at that point?

  looks like he was forced to talk about something he no longer believes, but goes along what was written to appease the rest of the ''governing body.''.

  I revisit an old Jehovah's Witness friend from long ago...

  my last memory of her… a friend from long ago.. julie was a startling beauty, a blue-eyed, natural blonde; a model, guitar player, a singer with glowing purity of tone, a talented writer, and possessed of a wicked sense of humor.. she was too young to be dating and yet she was a natural flirt.

  I always enjoy your writing. Admire your talent. Sad about your friend. In or out of the JW, that happens.

  I was talking to my JW mom this evening. We are visiting in her home, 700 miless from home. I watch as the religion continues to eat away her soul. Her health remains good as far as I know, but you can tell she is tired. 50 years a Witness does that to you.

  I was raised in it and walked away at 40. Been out 15 years. I watch my peers, many have nothing. I am rebuilding and married a non-JW. But I will never be able to retire.

  But those younger? They are getting wiser. Outwardly still JW, inwardly hedging their bets and getting careers and education and saving, and so are THEIR offspring....just in case this Paradise thing doesn't pan out.

  I hope this religion fizzles out. Covid is helping. More than the internet.

  Get Vaccinated or Get laid Off

  i’m personally for the vaccine, took two shots and would take a third if asked.

  but i know a friend of mine that doesn’t want to take the vaccine who works for the government and now is faced with this choice: get vaccinated or get laid off.

  i don’t agree with this measure as it is totalitarian and runs against my core belief in individual freedom.. now, with that being said, what i don’t understand is that my friend still won’t get vaccinated.

  Don't work for the government or work for a private employer with less than 100 employees. No shot.

  I work in the Healthcare industry. Our biggest client in our area is a large hospital chain with lots of medical groups. They offered vendors the shots early and I got mine. My wife has health issues and I will chance the shot over bringing her Covid. My wife also got the shots.

  For work, I am in and out of medical facilities all the time as a courier.

  With my promotion in December, these days I am more admin in the office than on the road. I work from home about 40-50% of the time now, not because of Covid, but because our office building got flooded in July (fire suppression system leak), so my office is gutted.

  But, I don't think anyone should be "mandated" to take the shot. My 20 year old son refuses. I wish he would, but he is a legal adult. His choice.

  My company is getting ready to mandate it.....it's coming. Our drivers have NO idea. I wonder how many drivers will leave?

  A different world.

  I also walked away 14 years ago. As far as I know, I'm not DF and I never DA.

  My JW mom is same as yours, 50 years in it, not leaving. Still talks to me, also generous. We don't have young kids so not an issue for us.

  DA/DF is a WTBTS/JW dot borg construct. You don't believe it, why play by their rules. Why force an unforced issue (unlike Lloyd, he was getting booted anyway)?

  My opinion. Your mileage may vary. Good luck.

  I like Lloyd, I really do. He and his crew have helped many leave the Dubs.

  But I cannot watch his videos. Not because of content, that is excellent.

  No, it is because they are too damn long. lol

  I wish he would do 10 minute videos, to the point.

  I am picky with my time. That and I come here to get the short version of Dubland News.

  My 77 year old mom is still PIMI. If not for that, I could fully ignore all things JW.

  But, like this site, I am grateful for those who put in the work, it got me out.

  in one form or another i've been a member of this site for almost 10 years.

  in the past this was a great place for debate, news and support for ex jws.

  i logged on several times a day and posted several times a week.

  When I first came here 15 years ago, I was still an active elder with a lot of unanswered questions. In December 2006, I was removed as an elder for "unreasonableness," a catchall term used by JWs when they got nothing specific on you...so instead they get me for....

  Dating a JW online in India, a sister verified by the branch as legit.

  Starting college to improve my economic status and get out of poverty. (Despite an elder in my old KH pursuing a Masters and teaching at Community College....good for my old friend).

  Questioning how a fellow elder could get on the platform and warn against masturbation and pornography and yet secretly be doing both and admitting if he hadn't been caught he wouldn't have come forward. They said I was unreasonable for not being more forgiving and agreeing with the BOE and keeping him on.

  Questioning the same elder for scamming an elderly sister into switching her phone service to his MLM service.

  I need to stop...what they did not like was me calling THEM out.. LOL.

  By 2007, I had read enough on JWD/JWN to know WT was BS and I walked away. If not for this site, I would not have started dating in the "world" and met my now wife (12 years together, 10 married in June).

  Who knows how many others have been helped, but if not for Simon and his wife,, and Flippper and others here who got me through, I might still be trapped like my 77 year old mom.

  There, no politics.
