| Post 24 of 24 Since 2/4/2007 | I went to the memorial as well. Also my first time to see the newest songbook. I remember when we retired the old songbooks 30 years ago. I grew up with the PINKISH color songbooks) We all hated the new songs and it was hard to sing the new songs with any enthusiasm. I had to chuckle since it seemed people simply mumbled through the songs tonight out of the new songbook. No enthusiasm at all. It seemed that this year the majority of the memorial talk was about how we shouldn't partake of the emblems and how disappointed Jehovah would be with any of us that did. Was this overemphasized compared to years past? or was it simply me? On a positive note our hall was certainly diverse culturally. I sat in the overflow room and we were white, black, hispanic, asian and native american. I looked around and wondered how many were there like me that felt it was important enough to show up for the event but were...unenthused about being in the hall otherwise and had no intention of returning to the organization to support it as Gods chosen mediator between him and the "other sheep". I gather this is STILL their position?? That Jesus is the mediator only for the annointed and the rest of us need the organization to tell us what Jehovah's Holy Spirit is directing us to do? I also felt a strange comfort in the familiarity of the KH. Down deep inside I wish the things I was taught as a child were true...however had they been true I guess I'd have been in the "NEW ORDER" (a term I understand is not used now) in my teen years (shortly after 1975) or certainly by the time I was in my late 30's (before the generation of 1914 passed away). hmmm...I'm in my 50's now 35 years after 1975, and that generation of 1914?..(the ones that were old enough to understand the significance of the changes the world saw that year) ALL DEAD!! 40 years in and around the WT organization...and now the scripture that comes to mind the most when I dwell on the WT is the one that says "having a form of Godly devotion but proving false to it's power, and from these turn away" . I read that scripture at the door thousands of times. I never thought I would feel it was a direction from Jehovah to turn away from the Watchtower. Yet that's what I believe now. |

only went so that i could say to my parents that i had gone and to remind myself why i left.. oh my word!!!
it was sooooo painful.. got there a bit late - it was a couple of minutes into the talk.

I still quote all my scriptures using the New World Translation since that is what I studied all my life but now I read every scripture from other translations as well.
In theory I cannot imagine that anyone with no advanced education in ancient Greek, Aramaic, and Hebrew could even begin to "translate" the Bible!!

When I was out of college and working, people were so jealous. It has always been obvious they didn't want me to succeed so they could point at me and say, "see, we told you so!!" and they would feel better about the choice to remain ignorant...or push their kids to full time service or bethel instead of college.
When they did finally throw me out for having "opinions"...only MOMENTS before they actually pointed the gun with the silver bullet at me and killed me spiritually, they actually asked me questions concerning if my car was "NEW" and how much $$ I made!
Now my former "friends" are being told....see how his faith was shipwrecked??!! ..and it's all because he pursued higher education instead of relying on Jehovah and his chosen organization.
Getting a college degree is the same as worshipping SATAN!
and now it's time for my Masters. Does anyone know a good school with a Masters Degree in Satanism? (just kidding)

Interstingly I remember an elder referring to me in a service meeting comment back in 1990 (although not actually using my name) as an example of someone who let spiritual interests slide to prepare for a short life in a doomed materialistic system. I was the only individual who was in college and ther was NO doubt who he meant!!
I found great satisfaction in learning that his children chose to attend college a decade later! He also was having a hard time supporting himself in his nighttime janitorial service and daytime painting company.
HOW COULD HE PUT KINGDOM INTERESTS FIRST BY SLAVING DAY AND NIGHT FOR THIS DOOMED MATERIALISTIC SYSTEM!

If these morons who supposedly have God's spirit, would have had age appropriate education for younger ones, then kids wouldn't have fallen asleep and needed to be spanked or reprimanded during meetings!!
Of course if they had taken psychology in college they would have known about stages of human growth and developement and that children are not miniture adults and thus shouldn't be treated as such. oh..that's right...I went to college ...they did NOT!!
If they had catered to young ones more when they were children, there wouldn't be an exodus OUT of the org the minute they turned 17, 18 etc and had the opportunity to leave. -
