Retraining our WT-controlled minds - THE GAME 2

i thought this might be a good way to help many of us to see the absurdity of some of the wts/jw rules "principles" .

women can't wear pants to meetings or service or i've heard even to go clean the hall.. what scriptures would the elders use to get a jw to conform.

you don't need to quote whatt he scripture and i certainly have no desire to do that but if you have the quotes handy feel free to post them.. the rule principle.

Forget the issue of whether or not women should wear pants.

The real issue is how women are pigeonholed by the Bible and Christianity (at least the version espoused by the Dubs). There were a bunch of intelligent women in my old congregation but they were never given the opportunity, within the mechanics of the Borg's rules, to make a meaningful contribution that could have truly benefitted everyone.

Women should enjoy equal status with men, period. The Borg leadership's continuation of this absurd, antiquated, and unjust domination of women is just one more piece of evidence that they are bogus, phoney, and perverse.

I am almost finished with a law degree and I am exposed daily to women attorneys and judges who epitomize the great contribution women make to our society.

If you put the Borg's leadership in the same room with some of the women I know, without the Borg's goofy rules, they would be shitting their pants.

Sorry, just had to vent. All you women out there.....YOU GOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!

How have you benefited by leaving the WT Organization?

i would love to get everyone's input on how each individual or couple has benefited from leaving the jw/wtbs as well as how their life is currently vs. being part of the organization.. eyes wide open .

Peace...I have peace. It is the greatest degree of peace I have ever had.

The peace I feel is the result of finally being intellectually honest about science, the role of humans on the earth, and the logic of evolution as an explanation for things.

I have grown mentally, more in the 10 years since I've been out than in the previous 30 years while I was in. College was definitely the most enriching experience of my life to date. I am so thankful for being able to go back to school as a middle aged man and succeed beyond my wildest dreams. It has been great.

In addition to all of the other good comments made about the farcical Memorial event, I would like to add something else.

The Borg has a real problem with the logic surrounding the Memorial. If, as they say, the 144,000 were to be filled first, prior to those of the "great crowd" being invited to be Christians, are we to really believe that the 144,000 were not filled in the 1st Century?

That just doesn't jive with the report that the Christians filled the whole world with their teachings. Furthermore, even if that was true, it is ludicrous to believe that between 33 C.E. and 1935 there were fewer than 144,000 Christians. It is just plain ridiculous to even advance that argument.

What is even more amazing is that the Dubs actually swallow it. They are lunatics. The Borg is really a master of TWIST and SPIN.

This is familiar information to anyone who has taken the time to objectively examine religion.

It is exactly why the only correct conclusion is that religion is part of the problem not part of the solution.

As a species, humans are developmentally retarded by the effects of religion. As far as I am concerned it is the agnostics, atheists, and secular humanists who are at the vanguard of the mental, psychic, and moral evolution of our species.

I can tolerate the religious beliefs of those who must believe. However, there is always the dark side of religion that is lurking just below the surface and that can erupt at any time, given the right circumstances. It is for this reason that religion must be viewed with a very wary eye at all times.

Thanks for the links to the vids.

Fortunately, I went back to school at a university shortly after I made the big exit. The university experience served the same function for me by helping me construct a new belief system based on logic and critical reasoning.

The knowledge and experience with critical thinking at the university level has brought the greatest peace of mind I have ever known.

The vid commentator is correct when he says that you don't have to know the answer to everything ...just being able to be circumspect about issues and to understand the shades of gray and possible answers is enough.

WTF.... JW Official Website...1914 glossed over...GT in 1975 NOTHING!!!!!!!

i nosed around on the jw official website for over an hour just to see how they were handling some of the dates that are/were central to their understanding of bible chronology.. there was absolutely no significant connection made between 1914 and our current time period being the purported last days.. and, even if they did shoot themselves in foot with the 1975 debacle, presumably the 6,000 year anniversary of adam's creation, which would have been marked in 1975, would still be a significant date in the witness timeline that would help to bracket the last days.. the jw website's internal search mechanism brought up articles mentioning 1975 only in the context of general interest articles about animals, current events, and other "fluff" articles.. the lying bastards have completely buried anything and everything that would incur culpability.. without 1914 and the generation that "would not pass away," they are citing evidence for the last days that is so flimsy, i don't see how they can sustain any significant growth or keep young ones from bolting once they are old enough.

their "solid" evidence is the same old recycled crap about wars, earthquakes, famines, selfish people....yatta, yatta, yatta... that could apply to any time in history.. i hope we are seeing the beginning of the end for the borg.

It's true... what a great scheme to feed a self-perpetuating propaganda machine.

What's curious about the arrangement, is how the successive heirs to the lifestyle of cream at the top, are chosen or work their way into positions of power and influence. It almost suggests that there is some secret organization within the Borg that calls the shots on who the priveleged few are going to be.

Let's face it, if someone or a married couple reaches the point where the man is a member of the GB or even the eschelon just below them, they are set for life in a cushy job with no financial worries, loads of perks, and no reason to dissent about anything.

i've been out for 10 1/2 years.. in the early days, after my departure, i was just glad to be out and going back to school.

i felt sorry for those who were still in living a life of delusion and failed/false dreams....and, in fact, i still do feel sorry for the r&f dubbies.

i used to even cut the borg's leadership some slack, thinking to myself that they were just caught up in their own delusions.. but, the longer i've been on jwd the madder i get at the borg leadership's outright deception, lies, coverups, and self-aggrandizing behavior.

Good point. I am familiar with the Stockholm syndrome but never thought about as applied to myself.

I was free of them the day I left...actually, I was mentally free for a couple of years prior to that.

The reason that the stories on this board make me so mad is that I now realize the devastating effect the Borg has had on so many lives.

I escaped relatively unscathed, partly because of my personal circumstances. All of my family in the Borg, were related by marriage, and my ex and I didn't have any kids. I was able to pick up my life and move on with relative ease. But, when I read these experiences of people who stay in because they are 3rd or 4th generation Dubbies and all their family and friends are Dubs and it is all they have ever known and there is no where for them to go without giving it all up... it breaks my heart.

It is beyond me how these individuals cope from day to day being forced to live a lie as the price for maintaining their social and family ties.

The Future of the Watchtower Society and the Internet

it seems that the watchtower society was very ill prepared for the advent of the internet.

perhaps, some of the governing body thought the end would come before it became a big problem.

now it is a big problem and is only going to get worse.

I think you are right on with your assessment of the Internet's impact on the Borg. But, I think you may be a little too generous in how long it is going to take for the trickle of anti-JW info, that witnesses are acquiring from the internet, to turn into a flood. Kids at school are increasingly internet saavy and often use the internet to research things for school.

I believe that this is one reason the Borg has come down hard on higer education ban. The internet is such an integral part of university life that anyone who goes to college will inevitably be exposed to the real truth about the Dubs. The Borg is nothing more than a crackpot, adventist, millenialist, pie-in-the-sky church and they know that the internet will completely blow their cover.

Even if the Borg is able to maintain the status quo with current members (which is highly doubtful--see "V's" Watchtower Comments that cites the statistic of 61% of recent converts leaving the Borg), they will be unable to attract significant numbers of new converts if the anti-JW internet sites remain so prevalent (and there is every reason to believe they will) when search engines bring them up. Additionally, as previously mentioned, the effect of the internet on young ones,in the Borg is bound to be devastating.

My Dad was an US Navy veteran and he had an expression that perfectly describes the position the Borg is in ....whatever their response it is going to be like "shoveling shit against the tide".... they are not going to be just done, they are going to be well done by the internet.
