the more i read on this site, the more i see that all religions think their version of what is right and wrong is what matters.
some punish you now for disobedience to the church's rules and others supposedly give you your reward in the hereafter.. some live their lives with more strictness.
others are more liberal.. look at the jewish faith.
I've been mulling since my last post on this thread and one of the things the Dubs used to hammer, that eventually turned the tide for me, was how the Catholic Church discouraged education of the average person for centuries (a la, Galileo being imprisoned). They criticized the church for the very thing they were guilty of with respect to religion.
They said they encouraged open minded reasoning but nothing could have been further from the truth. The BORG is all about mind control and keeping the Dubs stupid.
Lying bastards....
Alex
i sent a rather long email to a friend of mine, and i kinda feel like posting it here for some reason.
this is a bit more information about myself.
it's edited some, but most of it is intact... .
Hey there Ms. IH,
Writing about your feelings is probably a good thing to do...very therapeutic if you ask me. I went back to school after the big bail from the BORG and writing in my English comp class was a huge help at reconciling a lot of stuff.
Glad you're doing well.
Alex
i wanted to say thank you to the wbts for enforcing a 'no-contact' rule on all those that have left the organization.. only by experiencing first-hand my former best-friends treating me like a complete stranger (see 'garbage') for standing up for my own beliefs was i finally able to tell the society 'good-bye' forever and not feel guilty about it.. i know this was not the wbts's intention from the alienation practice.
it's intention was to make me feel guilty and lonely enough to come back to them.
however, it has backfired on them and finally given me my freedom.. thank you, society, for lacking kindness and understanding.
Welcome, Dave.

1873 [six thousand years of man's existence ends in a.d. 1873] {wr apr 1880 88}.
1873 "here we furnish the evidence that from the creation of adam to a.d. 1873 was six thousand years.
and though the bible contains no direct statement that the seventh thousand will be the epoch of christ's reign, the great sabbath day of restitution to the world, yet the venerable tradition is not without reasonable foundation.. if, then, the seventh thousand-year period of earth's history be an epoch specially noted as the period of christ's reign, we shall, by showing that it began in a.d. 1873, be proving that we are already in it.
Terry,
As far as I can figure 6,000 years of human history (and pre-history) ended about 70,000 years ago or so (give or take 10 or 20 thousand years).
All joking aside, the BORG are truly a deluded bunch. "We are right, because we are right. Right?"
They are so dishonest.
Cheers,
Alex
....like the one in myanmar now, will we not see the apocalyptic religions just explode in growth, including jw's?
even during relatively calm times, these groups can stir the 'sheep' to believe that the tribulation is just around the corner.
if we continue to see major disasters, what effect do you see in these groups?.
LOL, Willy,
By the time gas gets to $10 an hour
We knew what you meant but it's still funny!!!
Cheers,
Alex

The world's religions/belief systems (atheism included) span the whole spectrum from extremists to those who are tolerant of other beliefs.
The Dubs are just your basic narrow-minded, apocalyptic Fundies with a twist.
The scary thing about any brand of religion is the potential to have superstitious belief in the supernatural override reason and logic.
For what it's worth....

have we had any new light on who the king of the north is at the present time because i need a reminder .i haven't read anything about him since the 1960s.and the last time i tried explaining it to a little old lady at the door the russian missiles were on the their way to cuba and the late night news reader, that night ,said " goodnight everyone and i hope you all have a peaceful and restfull night," which was very unusual because radio announcers did not comment after the news in those days.. thunder and lightning, frightning very very frightning, bealzeebub moma mia moma mia!.
It's all so bogus...anything can be read into Bible prophecies.
The last thing I heard before I left in 1997 was that they didn't know which country would take up the manltle.
Cheers,
Alex
http://www.newswithviews.com/devvy/kidd359.htm.
despite the propaganda coming out of washington, dc., millions of americans are in deep financial trouble.
last week the media cranked up the mantra that wall street may be getting more optimistic.
The predictions about $200/bbl oil within 2 years could just be attempts at manipulating the news and the markets.
On the other hand, if that actually happens, the Great Depression will look like a bountiful Sunday picnic.
Alex
the united nations warned yesterday that it no longer has enough money to keep global malnutrition at bay..... http://www.guardian.co.uk/environment/2008/feb/26/food.unitednations.
this is a changed world.
we are living in very historic times.
LOL indeed, TOTH....
Typical Fundie fodder for scaring the dimwitted, the superstitious, and the weak minded.
Cheers,
Alex
