You know as an ex JW that you are not worried about spirits when you can talk with one who claims to and feel as though you are talking to a householder and trying to understand them
It's a good point. I guess I'm not completely de-programmed cause even though I'm curious about it, just thinking about going to one gives me the hibbie-jibbies.
i have never understood why is it ok for jw's to marry unbelievers although paul clearly warns against it in 2 corinthians 6:14. it is not that i am against it at all, but want to understand why the wts allows it.
tia.
do not be yoked together with unbelievers.
At the risk of losing some of my popularity on this board , I am coming out in agreement of the Watchtower and/or Bible on this principle. People in cults think differently (or perhaps don't think at all) than people who are free to make their own choices without the duress of pleasing God, or congragation elders, or even "not stumbling" anyone. They play by different rules, rules that don't make sense to people who don't spend every waking moment thinking about how to kiss God's @ss. I don't think that kind of union is fair to either party. While most people agree that compromise is necessary in a marriage, for a JW compromising on anything having to do with their faith (i.e., almost everything) can lead to serious guilt issues and a belief that they are losing the approval of the god they so desperately want to please.
i don't think everyone in the organization is clear on the new understanding of the 1914 generation.
i asked four witnesses about this and how they now understood the 1914 generation and none of them were aware of the new understanding!
as a disfellowshipped apostate, many witnesses still talk to me on me regular basis and a lot are "loosing their religion".
Unfortunatly, these type of changes really don't matter to average JW. All that matters is, its Jehovah's Organization and the only channel for salvation. If they were wrong about a doctrine and "correct" it with new light it is proof of Jehovah's blessing. I got a feeling the Borg leaders like their members to be dazed and not really all that studious (even of their publications). It's much easier to get compliance from someone who will just agree with whatever you say cause you're in charge, than from someone who says I don't buy it, show me the proof.
From the leadership perspective the only message they need to get across is we are the FDS, we are in charge, so follow what we say.
something was wrapped around my neck at birth and it wasn't the umbilical cord.
it was a neck tie!.
because dressing up in a nice suit, good quality dress shirt (i own one), $50-$75 neck tie (my wife has purchased a couple for me that were in this price range.
I dont have a problem with it. However if I have to go to a meeting or Assambly I intentionally dress down, just to let them know I'm not open to any of their BS.
as i'm sure many of us ex dubs do i have had tremendous fear, anxiety, curiosity and overall need for answers about spirits.
we all learned the same shite.
any spirits are demons.
I have no answers, but like you, I am very curious. So please let me know what you find out.

Never been to one, but I am very curious. Of course, I am concerned about going to someone who is authentic. Also, I'd like to hear feedback from aetheists who have gone to a psychic. Just because maybe it matters if you beleive the crap or not.
......did anyone ever ask you a question that you couldn't answer??
if so, what was the question?
what did you say to the householder if you couldn't answer it??.
No, I could answer them all. Not necessarily a good answer. Not necessarily a well thought out answer. More like a canned answer I got from the Reasoning book or some other publication.
I do remember talking to a very convincing old lady who was sure she would go to heaven. She had a lot of NT scriptures backing her up, and I only had Mathew 5:3 (the meek will pocess the earth). It was a good conversation because even though I thought I had the truth, I refused to shut my mind down and stop thinking when evidence was presented which contracted the "Truth." I did think about that a long time after I left her door.
i just posted this on another thread, but thought i'd give it its own.
i hope some of the language is not offensive to anyone.. ----------------------------.
holy spirit conversations stoppers.... if someone asks why certain decisions are made in the congregation, perhaps you could say.... "jehovah's holy spirit is "guding and directing" the body of elders.".
Hilarious!
this morning, a poster asked me why i still go on field service:.
just wondering if your conscience bothers you that you are continuing to "spread the jw gospel"?
do you have plans to stop fs soon?
To tell you the truth: Yes. My conscience bothers me most of the time. I still do it because I have all my family inside the Borg, and I have to figure how to help them out. If I get disfellowshipped, I will lose my communication channel with them
I think this is the right way to go if you have family on the inside. If I could back and do it all over again, I would stay inside as a double-agent and try to get my wife to think. Now that I have faded, it is impossible to ask questions that make her think because the Apostarader kicks in.
