Bro A and others commenting on the vasectomy issue:

I knew a brother who was used "prominently" (no, not me sillies) that had a vasectomy the same month that the QFR pertaining to the subject came out. It must be a don't ask/ don't tell type thing or perhaps he was forgiven because he had the procedure literally days or weeks prior to the general release of the article because it was after that that he was assigned CA and DC parts. By the way he's a genuinely good guy ( just in case you're reading this bud). Or like as is the case with many infractions of ~~Pharisaical~~ org. laws its enforcement may depend on COs and local BOEs.

Will we see the GB replace 1914 with a new date in the next 30 years?

ray franz mentioned in crisis of conscience that in 1980 schroeder, klein, and suiter proposed changing the start of "this generation" from 1914 to 1957. as the "this generation" doctrine has since mysteriously morphed any date associated with it is moot.

however, as time marches on without the developments anticipated by the gb may they again pick a new year, this time for the invisible enthronement of christ, in an attempt to buy time and regain credibility?

what dates or historical events would be likely choices?

jesus set up his (invisible) kingdom in the year 1914.. he (king jesus) had been given the task of directing the evangelical messege which would separate sheeplike people and goatlike people into distinct groups (according to how they responded to the messege they heard.).

Does the GB believe the doctrine themselves?

after reading crisis of conscience i got the impression that most on the gb actually believe all the doctrine themselves or at least that they believe that they are doing there best and god is helping/blessing them.. this sometimes seems unbelievable to me considering that they know about all the bad things in the org and see so many problems that the rank file normally does not notice or know about.

i'm currently reading combatting cult mind control by steve hassan.

when reading that book i can see that there are some cults that are far worse then the jws.

Good call about the Suntory, Gregor. I think the movie Lost in Translation featured Bill Murray as an American actor in Japan doing an ad campaign (photo-shoot) for Suntory. I have yet to try it. Is it any good?

At some point the date 1914 won`t exsist..The prediction of 1914 won`t have happened..Sure,some Jehovah`s Witness`s that ran ahead of the organization may have talked about it back in the old days..But it was never WBT$ policy to preach the 1914 doctrine at any time...OUTLAW

how did the kangaroo, the koala bear, and the platypus get from noah's ark to australia?

In that case, instead of spending a century building a 400-foot wooden boat and gathering dozens (if not hundreds) of animals and all their food, why didn't Noah simply move to higher ground? He wouldn't even need to bring any animals with him, except perhaps for some very localised species. I can't help but picture the people in surrounding areas laughing at this old man in a giant boat circling around in a lake for a year while they just got on with their lives. It's also difficult to see how the waters could have risen to cover mountains and still be contained in a small area.
Frankly the idea that the writers of the flood myth (or at least, those who copied it from the Babylonians) meant it to be read as a local event is quite ridiculous. They obviously thought of it as a worldwide catastrophe, but only because their view of the world was so primitive - no shame in that, they did live in the early Bronze Age after all! People living today really have no excuse for believing that such an event actually happened

does a jw upbringing simply confuse a child or is it really damaging?.

i have no doubt that a jw child is, at least, confused with life.

in my own case my wife brings up my 2 children (aged 5 & 2) as jw`s.

A moderate Witness is a very, very bad Witness by GB standards. Of course all of us here that once were Witnesses know that that's what the majority are. Ex- elders know that the elders, in general, spend alot of time rolling their eyes at the publishers. I think they learn this disdain for the r&f from the top. For that reason there's going to be a WT tailored specifically to spanking the publishers.

Having said the above, this in no way negates the effects of indoctrination on impressionable children. Even if raised in a moderate (slacker) household they may read and hear repeated sufficient propaganda to make them feel guilty and self- doubting for the rest of their lives. Any teaching or belief not rooted 100% in reality is damaging to both children and adults.

Deeply sorry for your loss. It must really hurt if you read the articles written by the org. about humility and the importance of apologizing. Once again, sorry for your tragic lost. If there's a God in heaven he will make those responsible pay for their arrogance.
