i'm sure it's been discussed before but i don't recall reading on that topic here on jwd.
i know that fear prevented me from posting while i was exiting as an elder.

i was just watching the repeat of the history channel cults program.
needless to say a lot of the cults they talked about and their beliefs reminded me of the dubs to an extent.
but, it got me to thinking...has the wt$ ever featured an article on cults and recognizing them?
Buddy. You answered correctly. Jesus is the leader of Jehovah's Witnesses. And the GB will let Him continue to lead as long as He does exactly as they tell Him to.
Not liking the PhariseesGB very much right now,

nvr... They did not care what was on my site, they barely read it. There was only one doctrinal question that they wanted me to answer "do I believe the GB represents Jehovah's earthly organization?" They side stepped almost every issue I raised. They didn't care if I believed the Bible or in God. "Did I or didn't I believe the GB?"
Sad and disgusting.

ok i have listed all the intresting and thought provoking things.
hear they are from a to z.
<----------- yep nothing.. .
Hello LaniB,
I'm not petty and money isn't more important than people. But if your sister's hiding behind the religion to get out of paying you that's just deplorable( yeah I know that's a WT word). I'd talk to the elders about that one. If they even hint that they've encouraged her to neglect her responsibility due to your status with the congo., I'd let them know that they can be included as defendants when you bring your case against her. Don't take me too seriously. I just have seen this sort of thing so many times in the org.
Best wishes.

Fascinating jwfacts. Did they even attempt to prove that your site contained "lies and half-truths", whatever they are? Or was your fate already determined before the j.c. ever began, as is so often the case?
Thanks for sharing my fellow Bethelite,

P.S.- Don't you secretly pine for morning worship sometimes? Be honest.(LOL!)

The following quotes on propaganda are excerpts from the Watchtower articles The Manipulation of Information and Do Not Be a Victim of Propaganda! from the Watchtower publication Awake! 2000 June 22.
“The cunning propagandist loves such shortcuts—especially those that short-circuit rational thought. Propaganda encourages this by agitating the emotions , by exploiting insecurities , by capitalizing on the ambiguity of language , and by bending rules of logic .
… Certainly, the handiest trick of the propagandist is the use of outright lies .
… Another very successful tactic of propaganda is generalization . Generalizations tend to obscure important facts about the real issues in question, and they are frequently used to demean entire groups of people.
… Some people insult those who disagree with them by questioning character or motives instead of focusing on the facts.
… The sly art of propaganda can paralyse thought , prevent clear thinking and discernment and condition individuals to act en masse.
… Emotional appeals are fabricated by practiced publicists, who play on feelings as skillfully as a virtuoso plays the piano. For example, fear is an emotion that can becloud judgment.
THERE is a difference—a big difference—between education and propaganda. Education shows you how to think. Propaganda tells you what to think. Good educators present all sides of an issue and encourage discussion. Propagandists relentlessly force you to hear their view and discourage discussion . Often their real motives are not apparent. They sift the facts , exploiting the useful ones and concealing the others. They also distort and twist facts, specializing in lies and half-truths. Your emotions, not your logical thinking abilities, are their target.
The propagandist makes sure that his message appears to be the right and moral one and that it gives you a sense of importance and belonging if you follow it . You are one of the smart ones, you are not alone, you are comfortable and secure—so they say.
…So we need to be selective. We need to scrutinize whatever is presented to us, deciding what to accept and what to reject.
… Also, if possible, try to check the track record of those speaking. Are they known to speak the truth?”
Thanks jwfacts. OMG! I was just thinking as I perused your list, how brain-washed were we to see these warnings in our own literature and yet discount them as applying to "other" organizations? I feel so duped.

Black Sheep posted this thread a few weeks ago. It's about a cult in New Zealand. It's a must see.
Thanks again to Black Sheep for sharing this one.

At the least, I think they can be a bit unreasonable, eg. . . . . . . .
"I'm very, very jealous. Sometimes I walk down the street
and I see a beautiful woman and I think to myself: "I'll bet
my boyfriend would like to sleep with her" and I get SO
ANGRY. I run right home and smack him, and say, 'How much
more of this do you think I can take?'" --Denise Munro
Thanks clam, you just made my day.

i know the society tells people not to listen to rock n roll cause its from teh satan, not to watch r rated movies because they're "worldly", etc.
but i was wondering if folks had any specific instances where one song, one show, one movie, or whatever was singled out as being particularly 'evil', and banned on an individual basis?
i was never a jw, but was in the worldwide church of god...the two are rather similar, i've seen many (and made quite a few myself) comparisons on the board; and i can remember as a child that every once in a while certain things would get brought up as being more evil and worldly than others.. examples of specific bans:.
LOL! Penny2:
I remember a CO saying anyone who went to a U2 concert was not "in the truth."
I guess that's where my downfall began, back in junior high school.
