They had a special announcement... I hadn't been attending for some time but Mom and Dad made sure I was there for the special announcment... I am an avid reader, first thing I do every morning is to read the newspaper. I had read where Fauldwell or some other dumbass lost a lawsuit so he was going to have to pay taxes on his books ectera... I thought that may effect the WT; the important announcment? The end was near and they were to no longer ask for a specific amount for th literature for THAT reason! Lying bastards! I said so on the way home and my dad liked to have fell out... That's when I knew, always had doubts, but that's when I knew. I've been to maybe three meetings since and everytime I go I always leave thinking how damn stupid the people there are. Lying bastards!

What Actually Made You Leave The "Truth"?
by minimus infor me it was a combination of things over a long period of time.
being raised as a witness, you do things by rote.
but when you see sooooooooo many watchtower inconsistencies, mistreatment of the "brothers", elder abuse, and simple lack of love, it begins to make you start seriously thinking.

Ghost of father-in-law?
by sinis inmy wife who is a "lukewarm" jdub, told me yesterday that the pentecostals across the street from her mothers house, told her mother on thursday that they saw her father walk up to the side gate (looked like he couldn't get in), and then walked up to the front door, and then vanish.
the only thing is that my wifes father passed about a year and a half ago.
of course her jdub mother wouldn't listen to it, and my wife sort of made a light comment, probably to hear what i had to say.

Cindy Sheehan quits the fight
by CaptainSchmideo in"casey died for a country which cares more about who will be the next american idol than how many people will be killed in the next few months while democrats and republicans play politics with human lives.
"it is so painful to me to know that i bought into this system for so many years, and casey paid the price for that allegiance.
i failed my boy and that hurts the most.".

I'm certainly surprised by Carla's response.... true patriots want what's best for this country; can anyone say that this foolish war was the right thing to do at this point and yet call themselves patriotic? I think not!

MOUTHY NEEDS YOUR PRAYERS AND/OR SUPPORT
by Mary inour dear mouthy is really having a tough time right now and needs our support and/or prayers.
as some of you may know, she's already lost 3 of her children in death and the other one to the borg.
in the last couple of days, she's had to worry about her 2 year old great-granddaughter being in the hospital with an illness and yesterday, her daughter had a suspicious mole removed from her back and was told there is a lump in her breast which has to be biopsied.

Going to speak to my parents about the 'Truth"
by ThomasCovenant ini am going to approach my parents (dad an elder) later this summer with my true feelings about the wt society.
i have the cd rom and a lot of society books (plus of course the off limits wonders of google) but i happen to have just one bound volume of the watchtower 1953. it's a real gem!.
i intend to bring this book to my meeting with them as they won't be able to say it's apostate.

I see Primate, you're just trying a different approach other than the socratic approach I take. I just ask them questions and let them answer it; like where in the Bible does it say that I don't have the right to question men? YOu're right, we both want the same things; there's probable a variety of ways to make that happen. Pragamatism is the best approach.

What was the biggest thing that helped you when you were leaving?
by jambon1 infor me, the support of this site was invaluable as i had had years of couped up emotions.
always being told that if you are sporitually weak, it is your fault.
i actually swallowed it and tried to be a good jw.

For me, it was simple... whenever a man, or any group of men say that whatever they say can't be questioned, it sends up a red flag in my mind and it always has. So after 28 years as a witness, after having questions that elders couldn't answer, I read literature outside the org and realized it was the WTBTS that was lying about the apostates and not the other way around. I've been out 17 years!

Primate,
YOu are a smart man and much of what you said is true, so I'm sorry that I have to disagree with some of it.... You ask, does anyone ever win an argument? How many people convert to something as wrong as the WT; aren't the witnesses proof that bad arguments can win over converts? We outside the crap they call the "truth" know the real deal about these people; how they are making the claim to have God's spirit guiding them into all sorts of foolish predictions and false doctrines; when we all know there's not one iota of evidence they have God directing their work. This isn't the problem though is it? The problem lies in the fact that they are destroying famlies and friendships with a dogma that they can't be questioned, that doing so makes one "apostate" and therefore the worst sort of person. A simple question here should suffice.... where in the Bible does it say that any man hasn't the right to question the authority of other men? WHere in the bible does it say that you shouldn't assoicate with a man that questions other men's authority? Nowhere does the Bible make such a statement... so, they've created a group of slaves... this must be destroyed and no war can be won without firing a few shots (metaphorically of course); doing nothing and fading is a cop out in my mind; if more of us were to stand up it may take years but we could win the day. Surly the WT will make more stupid comments that will cause doubts if we standup now and say they're idiots. I've done that recently and it actually works if you do it in a kind way and stick to the facts. Try it you'll like it!
