It depends on the elder. I saw a guy who was inactive for about 3 years come to the hall for his daughters wedding he was with his girlfriend that he lived with and they never DFed him. I know of a lot of inactive JW who lived with their girl friends and never got DF. A guy I know just got married at the hall this week end. He was inactive for many wears, had a few girl friends. He went back, became a pioneer and got married not to long after. I hope his new JW wife got him tested first. I hope she knows about his past life. I don't really like this guy he is some what of a jerk.

Will the tower play there power trip on me?
by jacethespace insince i have left the watchtower i have met a really great girl [ or as the tower might put it-worldly].
the thing is i think i might be in a bit of a predicament because when i left the tower i decided on the option that i would just walk away and not send a letter of dissociation.and the local elder and his wife lives right next door to me.because of this i have still saw them and other of my tower associates and been able to speak to them and they have spoke to me.. but now i have a feeling that once i start to bring my girlfriend back to my place that my neighbour/elder will take more of an intrest in whats going on and it might lead them to dissfellowshipping me.although as far as im concerned my life is none of there buisness anymore.but im just wondering how long it will take for them to visit me and announce that they are going to df me.. anyone had any similar experiences or anything?.

Independent Thinking: Is it Wrong?
by cameo-d injust for a moment imagine that we had visitors from outer space and they said they were here representing god.
suppose they gave a good expalantion, saying that they are showing themselves because we are on the verge of annhiliation with wars, genocide, and toxic poisoning.. suppose their remedy for the situation was a new teaching which was basically some metaphysical-type platitudes.. and the first thing that has to go is individuality.
they would use more esoterical language.

"Resistance is futile prepare to be assimilated". When a group with power condemns independent thought you know they are corrupt and they want power. Reason and knowledge is the ultimate liberator.

I find it insulting that JW's equate being a good parent to being a JW.
This is something that bugs me too.
Tell your MIL your going to raise your child as you see fit........And..To go to McDonalds and order a "Shut the F*ck up Burger!"...........If that doese`nt work..Bury her in the back yard..LOL!!................... ...OUTLAW

Can't you just make it short, sweet and simple? Be brief. Be emphatic. Tell them you have it all under control. Tell your daughter's religious upbringing is your responsibility and yours only. Oh yes and that you appreciate her kind and well meant concern.
Yeah I tried that but the problem is that it does not work because they expect you to respect their belief but it does not apply the other way around and if I don't make it clear that I don't want this to be discussed in front of my daughter well my MIL will think that it's up for debate and it's not. With most JW, WT doctrine can be taught to a child with out the parents consent. I think Missing link sum it up pretty well
Get it over with now. Don't let her get her hopes up of the possibility of having a little dubbie 5 year old grandchild giving "bible readings". YOU are the parent now. She's gotta respect you.
Me and the Mrs have decided that we will talk to her mother as soon as possible to make everything clear. I doubt that it will end with that but I think we must do this for everything to be as clear as possible.

You are all great, thanks for your input.
Your mother-in-law needs to understand that to you, the needs of your child come before her wishes. Keep reminding her until she gets it.
Me and the Mrs were talking about this a lot yesterday. My MIL said to my SIL that she does not understand why all of her children are not interested in the truth any more, she did her best to raise them in it. She can not accept that we can be happy outside of the JW. I think she is taking it personal and thinks she did something wrong.
there isn't any way to get through life without pissing off a lot of people. So go ahead and piss them off. I believe in offending people early and often until they get the point. Doesn't mean I'm mean to them, I just keep stating my point until they get it. If they find that offensive, it isn't my problem. It didn't take long with my mother. I only told her once that I didn't want to hear it any more, she got the point.
I totally agree. I think it's difficult to go against the "programme" of trying and keep the peace. I think that I'm over it but some times I realise that some of it is still dormant inside. I think it's worst when it comes to my wife's family, I don't want to do anything to disturb the already fragile relationship my wife has with her mom, my wife says that her mother does not really now her so there is not much to lose, sad. It's funny my MIL would freak out if she would realise that it's my wife that first showed me the lies of the WT.

Calico,
MIL just explain to her that you still want her to be a part of your daughters life, but that the WTS doesn't play a part in it all.
I like that, it's simple and clear.
rebel8,
For now maybe it would work to say the rearing of your child is something you and your wife have decided to keep as a private matter and will not be discussing it with her.
Also simple and straight to the point, I remember her telling us to mind our own business when we talked to her about how verbally abusive her husband his towards her, I think I could say that the same applies to her.
I think you answered your own question. You don't owe them anything, especially explanations. A few direct orders, especially coming from your wife to her mother, would be beneficial. How about something like, "Our daughter will never be indoctrinated in Watchtower teachings by you or anyone else." Just as those of us who are shunned have a choice to return to the cult in order to have contact with our jw families, jws have the option to maintain relationships with grandchildren if they can learn to keep their irrational opinions and fears to themselves. If your m-i-l still has trouble controlling herself after a few well placed directives, a stock answer to her could be, "Don't make ME shun YOU !"
Good point. It,s funny how they all expect you to respect their beliefs but when it comes to ours it like we don't have any rights, we are in the wrong path so we MUST change and follow their path, I am not the one telling them they should leave the WT, I'm just asking for them to accept that we are not going back. It's like Calico said it's like if they have blinders, her belief system is making her unhappy and depressed, not to mention that 90% of the rest of the family are on antidepressant and have big problems in their couples and we are doing great, better then we have ever been but that's not good enough. Thanks for the input, it gives me more to think about.

Jwfacts, that's good advice. I did think of the "what kind of god kills babies" line, it's a good one.
Mary, lol. I have not gone to a meeting in 5+ years, I have long hair and tattoos so I thought it was clear to my friends and family that it was over the JW stuff, I guess not.
My own thought is that you don't really owe them any explanation as to how you're going to raise your child. If your mother in law continues to inquire as to "when are you coming back to Jehovah", you could either say "we're not" or "I really don't wish to discuss it" or something like that. If your father in law brings up the subject, I'd tell him to take a look in the mirror first and worry about saving his own soul before he starts butting into your business. Guy sounds like a total loser.
You are right I don't owe them anything but I would like for my mother in-law to see her granddaughter grow up, I don't want her husband to be around my little girl to much for obvious reasons, he is over 80 years old and has a lot of health problem so I don't think he will be around for very long. I guess I must accept the fact that if I want to be myself I am going to piss off a lot of people I know .

Should God be convicted of war crimes???
by chuckyy injust recently thinking of instances in old testament when jehovah instructed his people to slaughter animals, women, and even children.
if a human being today instructed an army to do this, wouldn't he be convicted of genocide/war crimes???.

If he can't be locked up because he's in hiding, then his assets should at least be seized (all church properties), and his wages garnished (all religious donations).
