Maybe they believe that they could have been duped so it makes them feel like they are not evil and it's not totally their fault they are just incline towards evil. This does bring other problems. If we are influence by a supernatural being ( I know we are not ) and we are somehow flawed, then we can not really be guilty of sin and the ransom belief falls apart. That's one of the reason why I don't believe in Christianity.

Do believers in demons use them to avoid responsibility for actions?
by gaiagirl inthe wtbts teaches that "the whole world is lying in the power of satan" and that "satan controls all the governments".
also, even that sincere members of all other churches good works all are service "to demons".
so, when a jw, or other person who believes in demons, commits a wrong act, do you observe that they blame it on satan or demons instead of accepting responsibility for their own actions?.

Deceptive or just wrong?
by johnnyc ini have been virtually non-stop studying everything i can get my hands on with regards the wtbts, and "apostate" literature and information.
in all honesty, 80% at least is non-sense and over critical.
however, i do find about 20% (if i have to create a percentage reference) is appropriate in its line of reasoning and questioning.

I think PrimateDave just gave the best answer.
Just to add one more thing, the goal of every powerful organization is to maintain that power and continue existing as long as possible, think about that.

How's this for irony? This week's book study lesson
by sir82 inin this week's book study lesson, there is a paragraph on "greed".
the following comment is made (chapter 8, paragraph 17):.
a christian who loves kindness will certainly not exploit his fellow worshippers.

The irony is, that they discourage relationships with people of the 'world'. They also discourage getting a good education and having a career, thereby producing a large number of people who lack skills and drive - these ones are often attracted to multi level marketing businesses in the hope of getting rich quick with the minimum of qualification and skill but whose customers are mainly their fellow dubs. Then they get dealt the guilt card with articles like this. Talk about setting people up to fail and/or feel guilty whatever they do!!!
They make my temperature rise......
That is an excellent point!
It sounds like you are describing my dad, he lost all of his money in these multi level businesses, of course he was recruited by other JW.

Anti-Christ: I did not compare Jesus with the WT. I said "Jesus Disciples". And I believe the examples are very similar, as Jonah himself was upset about being made to look foolish for he prophesied something that did not occur. If you don't like that example, make a comment on the example on the fact 1st, 2nd, and 3rd century Christians all thought the end would occur in their time - and peached such.
I know you said Jesus disciples, my point is that it seems that you are comparing the disciples to the RF and the WT to Jesus and the bible maybe I did not understand properly.
You ask, what would a JW think of reading those Awakes or WT's that suppose the end would occur in 1975. I say, what about any Christian reading the Christian Greek Scriptures to which it was clearly said the end would occur around that time?
These things are very different and if you really believe that the WT is the word of god then we have a bigger problem. Now about Jonah
Jonah 4 (New International Version)
New International Version (NIV)
Jonah 4
Jonah's Anger at the Lord 's Compassion
1 But Jonah was greatly displeased and became angry. 2 He prayed to the LORD, "O LORD, is this not what I said when I was still at home? That is why I was so quick to flee to Tarshish. I knew that you are a gracious and compassionate God, slow to anger and abounding in love, a God who relents from sending calamity. 3We can debate how to interpret this verses but that's not the point the point is that the Wt does not give all the information that is necessary to make a balance and unbiased discussion, like I said they believe the bible is the word of god and it is not, is this deliberate, maybe, maybe not, but the important thing is they do not have the truth. p.s. thanks for taking the time to respond.

I get the point now, like I said the blind leading the blind. How can they get predictions right when they use a flawed book.

What if Jonah were to have created a document by which he announced (as God's prophet) that Nineveh was to be destroyed? Yet that didn't happen. For that matter, what about the Apostles and disciples of Jesus time who taught the end would occur in THEIR generation? I can go all day with references to seemingly "failed" predictions. You ask, what would a JW think of reading those Awakes or WT's that suppose the end would occur in 1975. I say, what about any Christian reading the Christian Greek Scriptures to which it was clearly said the end would occur around that time? Paul encouraged Christians back then NOT TO GET married since the end was so close...
First who are using the same kind of reasoning the WT uses
- Bad Analogy:
, I will point it out to you. The story of Nineveh was about repentance, if they did not repent they were going to be destroyed. You compare Jesus with the WT, it's the disciples that got it wrong not Jesus, it's the WT that got it wrong not the RF. You compare the WT and Awake to the Greek Scriptures but the Wt and Awake are not suppose to be inspired from god like the bible is claim to be. One problem is that they give out have truths and use mind control like many religions. The other problem is that they say the bible is the word of god and yet it is not. Clear case of the blind leading the blind,( yes I know the irony of using that saying.)claiming that two situations are highly similar, when they aren't. For example, "The solar system reminds me of an atom, with planets orbiting the sun like electrons orbiting the nucleus. We know that electrons can jump from orbit to orbit; so we must look to ancient records for sightings of planets jumping from orbit to orbit also."
Or, "Minds, like rivers, can be broad. The broader the river, the shallower it is. Therefore, the broader the mind, the shallower it is."
Or, "We have pure food and drug laws; why can't we have laws to keep movie-makers from giving us filth?"

JW'S: WHAT A LOVING BUNCH!
by Mary ini just found out that one of my moms friends is in the process of being taken to the cleaners by her scumbag son-in-law and her own daughter---both who are witnesses.
she's been widowed for several years now and, like many witnesses, her husband had no life insurance (why bother----the new system was going to be here long before either of them got sick or died right?
) and she had never worked outside the home.. anyway, she managed to save enough money through working part time (she gets part of her husband's pension but it's only about $800.00 a month) and she put a small downpayment on a place to live.

what a nice guy...Sadly I know of a lot of stories like this one. I remember a JW that screwed over a few "brothers" , his excuse was "in business there are now brothers".

Why does it bother me so much?
by Anti-Christ inmost things that people believe that are out there and don't have much evidence to support their believe, like the reptilian conspiracy, does not bother me has much as people believing that the bible is literal word of god.
i can understand that someone would believe it because of the lack of knowledge like me before, once i learned more about out it i realized that it was not the word of god, i was duped.
if someone after learning all this information and still believes it's the literal word of god it drives me nuts, i just don't know why it bothers me so much.

Thanks for the replies, I was not to have many.
It is reactionary....... if you had never been a JW, you would probably be driving around with one of those "Christianity is not a religion, Christianity is a REALITY! bumper stickers that I saw driving home today.
And that freaks you out.......
humm, I not sure if I understand, but do you mean that it bothers me because people who believe it to be literal take it to seriously, act according to it and in reality it's fiction like people who believe in the force and Jedi knights?
Deputy Dog already answered your question.
So did Mary, in her .pdf document (first part, dealing with the way our brains work).
To answer your question myself, I would say that:
- all "knowledge" is simply a compendium of others opinions that we are convinced of, or would like to believe.
- faith is above "knowledge" when it comes down to it. All common "knowledge" is highly suspect. True faith is the only path to true knowledge.
- it is good that it bothers you, it shows you are still open-minded enough to have this bother you.
BA- Succinct.
Well Deputy Dog said it's about hatred but in Mary's .pdf the part about the brain is more about basic survival instinct, I not sure that the two are connected.
When you say all "knowledge" is simply a compendium of others opinions that we are convinced of, or would like to believe.
- faith is above "knowledge" when it comes down to it. All common "knowledge" is highly suspect. True faith is the only path to true knowledge.
Do you mean that knowing something is just cerebral and can be false if it's mainstream ( a form of mind control) but "feeling" something is more real? BTW thanks for the respect.
It used to bother me a hellofa lot too. Now and again it bothers me a little. I've learnt this year that everyone is at different levels to where I am at in my spiritual walk and I have to accept that some are still stuck on the litral interpretation of the 'word'. I may not like it but it's not up to me to make them see it / believe it any other way.
I believe that is a healthier way of dealing with it.
