  I remember having discussion about this with people in FS but I agree that I never mention that it was 144 000 JEHOVAH'S WITNESS, just 144 000 people.

  1. To salute the flag is an act of idolatry. This is not a problem in Canada ( we don't salute the flag in school) so I never really talked about it.

  the first poll of britain's churchgoers, carried out for the sunday telegraph, found that thousands of them believe they are being turned down for promotion because of their faith.. one in five said that they had faced opposition at work because of their beliefs.. more than half of them revealed that they had suffered some form of persecution for being a christian.. the findings suggest a growing hostility towards religion in this country, which has been highlighted by a series of clashes between churchgoers and their employers.. and so on.

  So, if a Christian talks about their faith at work, that's grounds for discrimination or bullying?

  This thread reminds me of one of those talks we'd always get at District Conventions whereby the counsel is always for those who have been maligned within the congregation. You know, "excerise the fruits of the spirit when your fellow brothers treat you like crap" etc. The counsel isn't ever for those doing the maligning.

  So, rather than this thread being about those who are discriminating (and yes, I realise the articles says the Christians believe they're being maligned), it's about what the Christians must have done to deserve maligning.

  What about the notion that, at times, the UK can have a bullying culture?

  I believe only bullies deserve to be bullied. I don't think anybody here is saying that

  So, if a Christian talks about their faith at work, that's grounds for discrimination or bullying?

  It's that we don't have all of the information but sometimes if Christians are vocal about what they believe others might feel uneasy around them. How would you react if you would work with a very vocal xenophobe? Would you be surprised if this person was fired? This person might feel discriminated against because of their belief.

  Okay I can get what you are saying and yes things have change, I know I and others around me did not tell everything or answered their questions 100% accurately at the first sing of interest they would let the person warm up to the ideas. If the person "progressed" then more information was given. I guess it is not the same for every one everywhere.

  I will give a list of things that were not discuss with new studies or return visit ( at first ) if they would ask, tell me if this is in your opinion is accurate.

  What happens after one becomes a JW and no longer accepts everything the GB teaches (shunning)

  Women's position in the congregation and in their own family. (can't teach and submissive)

  Children are not forced in to be in the religion.

  That only JW will be saved( I know every time someone would ask in door to door every JW would answer only god can judge but they all knew that this not what was implied at he meetings)

  Other things the WTBTS NEVER talks about even after one becomes a JW , I only found out after I left is the bible itself, all the verses about Israelites "keeping young virgins for themselves" ,the laws about selling your daughter as a slave, taking captive women for your self and if after a specific number of days "you no longer took pleasure in her" to let her go. The contradictions in the bible. The REAL origins of the bible are never talked about. The fact that they are a bunch of other books of the NT that never made in the bible and who decided. That the old testament of the bible is based on the Masoretic text that only dates back to the 9 century and that it is very different from the dead sea scrolls. The dates of when these book were written. Most of this is just keeping information other things are just plain lies.

  Look maybe now it is accepted but back then it was not accepted, maybe in your area it is okay to have a goatee but in Quebec it is not. The reason why we do not teach anything about dress and groom is because there is nothing in the bible about it ( except were it says we must be modest) that's why we did not teach it. When I lied I did not see it as a lie they would ask if they had to wear a suit and tie to become JW seeing that the bible did not say anything about that I would answer no. The same with the question do JW believe that only JW will survive most answered that only god will judge but we know dam well that is not what was teach from platform. " If you don't go to all your meetings you will die, if you are not baptised you will die, bla bla bla..." BTW my study did not get upset because I lied he got upset because this was the norm, he said "I thought they followed the bible were in the bible does it say that I must dress a certain way or can't have a beard?" Of course I could not answer.

  I don't remember if it was explicitly stated in writing that there was certain things we could not tell a study but I do remember it being the norm. We had to follow what was in the book and not go beyond. The idea was that the student after being indoctrinated at the meetings would accept certain things more willingly
