i'm not talking about a individual, but a congregation as a whole.. i'm talking about a brother or sister that really hit hard times.. have there ever been an occasion where the brothers (elders).
decided to dip into the kh funds and help one in need????.
example, brother loose his job, get evicted, family of four or.
Well I hate to give them credit, but a Sister that needed a heart operation needed two thousand cash before she could be admitted or whatever the case was, I was about 19-20 at the time, however, calls were made all evening trying to get the money and, lo and behold, they came up with the dough.
i never used to care for storms or anything like that but ever since i learned about jwism, i would get scared everytime there's a big storm.....does this happen to any of you?
if so, how did you deal with it?
.
Maybe you thought the loud noises were the start of the Big A.
My Godmother always got under the covers when their used to be heavy thunder and lightning.
........ well at least the ones i encountered on my recent holiday to orlando.
now i know that its a tourist destintion so everyone working in the hotels and parks are on their best behaviour.
but i have been to tourist towns here in the uk and europe but not one is on a par with you guys.. my husband and i haven't stopped talking about to anyone that wants to listen.
EXACTLY Rip Van Winkle !!!
i had been thinking about religion and religious services in general and perhaps i am just noticing it more because of my personal involvement but it seems that the jehovahs witness religion tends to have more incidents of mixed marriages where one partner is considered the unbelieving spouse than other religions or churches.
of course, i have not been to church is a while and even when i did go to church i found that there werent as many instances of a spouse going it alone in the church without their partner.
i guess that is partly why i got discouraged in going to church as i felt like i could only bring half my family to it.. the main thing i would like to discuss, though, is why does there seem to be a higher number of mixed marriages within this religion as opposed to other religions.
Back in the 60's and 70's when I was growing up, if the whole family wasn't in, then it was usually the mother raising the kids in the Cult, it was very rare when the father was the only one.
My mother got baPtized in 1958 and my father didn't get baPtized until 1978, it was just a case of a long married man that was beaten down to whatever the loudmouth wife goes by, happens in all marriages, BTW, my father was even appointed elder down the road, but he still drank and every time my mother left on Saturday afternoon to go on a study or whatever, as soon as the car was out the driveway he always ran to the phone to make a call . . . and trust me, he wasn't talking to another brother or anybody else of the male species

So Jam - you were cursed out twice on the subway and even kicked out of a restaurant here in NYC? Were you absolutely innocent in both situations, especially getting kicked out of a restaurant.
when i was a wee lad, there was a carnival atmosphere at assemblies as this old footage will show:.

Well as a kid the excitement was always the food.
I remember the first year they started doing dramas at the assemblies, since it was new and I was kid then as well that was exciting at the time.

So is the Society now admonishing it's faithful flock to have their family study while wearing paper hats?
well it was announced the other night that the new convention venue will be about a twenty hour drive away.
in that 20 hours will include at least 3 hour boat ride.
i'm guessing the cost of the boat ride + the cost of fuel would probably be about $us800 - $us 900. that wouldn't include the loss of wages for the 4 days just to get there and return.
Record holder for your travel to a convention, I can tell by just that statement you are so much younger than I am.
In the 60's we always had to travel from NYC to either Washington Dc, Baltimore,Atlantic City, not until the 70's did they start having more close to NYC, although Yankee Stadium was always used when available for NY area, as well as Shea Stadium, Belmont and Acqudecut Racetracks
you read it here first!.
to all congregations.
re: midweek meetings during visit of circuit overseer .
I haven't been to the KH since the 80's but that was what happened whenever our CO visited, we always had usual ministry school meeting and he spoke at the end.
But I remember we always had an extra meeting on Saturday where he spoke for the whole meeting, do they still do that?
