You just know if a JW reads that the obvious points will go clear over their head and they won't even see that basically they're lving the same life but belong to a different cult.

Actress Glenn Close reveals childhood spent in a Cult
by WingCommander inwhat an amazing story.
to hear her describe it, it sounds exactly like the controlling, abusive environment many of us were raised in, except i didn't get to spend 2 years confined to an extravagent hotel in switzerland.
she escaped at age 22 after: dum-da-da-dum!

Please Give Me Your Thoughts On Unusual Elderly Behavior....(thanks)
by minimus inmy girlfriend's dad who is 82 lost his second wife to cancer last october.
while she was dying, he secretly was seeing another woman, in her 60s.
long story short, a month after the wife's death, they both moved in together and in early june , they secretly got married.

The story that Lois Lane tells on the first page of this thread makes sense to me, I'm just wondering if that woman that LL talks about is the one that married someone's father that I know. After the father died this professional widow had things sewn up and taken care of and proabably moved on to her next victim/husband, but I guess as long as she remains a faifthful servant of Jah, well, that's the MOST important thing . . .isn't it ?

Trained to Exploit Emotionally Vulnerable People?
by dontplaceliterature ini don't post here much anymore, but i am working on a project with a few academics from my area who are in the psychology field.
we are looking for printed evidence in their literature that jehovah's witnesses train their publishers/pioneers to target people who are suceptible to being recruited - i.e.
people who have experienced a loss, or who are emotionally vulnerable.

Don't know if they use this anymore but there was a tract called "Hope for the Dead" that my mother used to give people who just lost a loved one, which was bascially promising them that they would see that person again during the Paradise . . . (makes me sick just to think of that)
As soon as a Dub found out you lost someone thru death they'd whip that one out on you

Let's suggest some programs for tv.jw.org
by rebel8 inweekday afternoons: a soap opera featuring judicial committees, demon possessions, and wives clamoring to be the ones who host the circuit overseer's lunch.
saturday mornings: sparlock cartoon.
friday evenings: reality show featuring jw dating.

To borrow a title from an old game show, how about they start a show called "To Tell the Truth". On second thought i don't they're capable of doing so.

by Chris Tann inso it's rumored started by one member that there is a new pioneer rank called basic pioneer, announced at annual meeting.
can anyone verify this is true?
everything else presented at the meeting has been verified except this.

10 hour pioneer - 10 hours is more or less what the average publisher puts down on their time sheet every month, whether they made an actual 10 or not.

JWTV. org - All I can picture in my mind is some hokey quiz show with that organ music in the background like the quiz shows from the 50's and Carol Merrill from Let's Make a Deal standing in front of the boxes as some loser elder wearing a plaid sports jacket and bow tie asks you do want Box number two or do you want what's behind the curtain?

The Amish folks are getting into the act too. I could tell by the way they were dressed they were Amish. I don't know if they were there for recruiting purposes, but at a subway station a month or so ago, a big group of them were singing in the station and there were about two people handing out literature. I don't think they recruit so I guess they were just there for entertainment purposes and the literature was probably for folks who wanted to know more about them.

The 2 witness rule
by tim hooper ini've just been informed by a jw apologist that regarding the 2 witness rule in cases of child abuse, the child himself counts as 1 of the witnesses.
he also stated that if 2 children complain about abuse seperately, the 2 children then count as 2 witnesses.. any thoughts please?.
