I just read this week about dry brine, which includes baking soda which makes the skin more crispy and holds moisture within, I said I'll pass on that. Some people in the comments section of the article say it works, but I just have a feeling if I did it I wouldn't get the right results.

Turkeys ... to brine or not to brine (recipe)
by RubaDub inbeing that time of the year when you can buy turkeys so cheap (most jw's i know but at least a couple) or in some cases food stores give one away with a purchase exceeding some dollar amount, i was just interested in any interesting recipes.. we usually do the brine thing (3/4 cup salt to 1 gallon of water, a few packets of chicken bouillon, some random additional spices, dry or fresh as desired).
cover the turkey completely and then let it soak overnight ( we usually do about an hour a pound).
not a real precise recipe but it does, in our opinion, make for a much more juicy bird without the typical dryness that often happens.. depending on the size of your refrigerator, it may take some gymnastics to get a big pot with a turkey in it.

Updates on people leaving Wallkill?
by Lynnie indoes anyone have any updates on how many people have left wallkill in the last couple of months?.
i keep seeing pics of "going away parties" from my uber heavyweight bethelite cousins.
they are in their late 30's but must have some special thing going on (he's in purchasing i believe) because they get to fly all over the world like africa most recently.

Growing up in NYC, when I hear Wallkill I think of the prison, I guess real estate is real cheap in those areas, which is why the Borg probably grabbed it, BTW if you look up how many prisons are in upstate NY the list is quite long, how soon before we read of a break from one of them and keeping a few members from a certain cult hostage.

The Professor who stood by his belief (printed on the Yahoo homepage and other sites as well) that Trump would win this election also says he will be impeached and won't serve the whole four years, I don't remember his name but I'm sure it can be easily looked up. He says although the House is mostly Republican now, the majority don't support him and he states his other valid reasons as well, I just hope to Hell he's right as rain on this as he was when the stuck to his word about this moron being elected

Thanksgiving??
by HereIgo inwith thanksgiving around the corner, i thought it would be interesting to hear how you, your family or other jw's you knew handled/celebrated thanksgiving.
it seems to me that most jw's view it as harmless and unofficially celebrate it the day before or the day after the actual holiday.
growing up, my mother would host a dinner the day after thanksgiving and used the excuse " well the traditional food for the dinner is discounted at this time, might as well have a dinner".

Growing up, my father wasn't baptized yet, so those with unbelieving mates were encouraged to go ahead with the holiday meal if the husband was used to it. Some years my mother cooked and invited others over, other times we went to close friends houses on Thanksgiving and Christmas.
This was back in the 60's and 70's, I have no idea what new light has come out now,

GreatTeacher - I agree
Look up the movie A Face in the Crowd starring Andy Griffith
The script will be Drumpf's life as POTUS
The shit just got real for him, he didn't even think he was going to win, or he wouldn't have been crying the system is rigged a week before the election. He's scared as he can be right now, but his yuuuuuge ego will never let him admit to that.

I remember some brothers here in Queens, NY started an insurance company, it even made the newspapers, but not front page, it was found out they were duping the folks, which of course were brothers and sisters, and keeping the money for themselves.

Hey NY44M - I saw some black folks today, just thought you might find that of interest since you pointed out that you saw a lot of black votes when you were voting like it's some oddity or something.

1000 Years is Like 1 Day?
by Sorry inanyone else hear about this.
as all j-dubs know, whenever someone complains about how long the "new system" is taking too arrive, they use the excuse that jehovah works on his own time.
quite a few times during the public talks, i've heard speakers say the phrase "1000 years to us is only one day to jehovah" (my parents never stop talking about this).

What I don't get is that they always say one day is like a thousand years, then how come they've been saying the Big A is just around the corner? I've heard that growing up back back in the 60's till the day she died from my mother, just like the rest of em' always said. Yet they acknowledge the scripture about no man knows the day or hour, plus the one day is 1,000 years, yet they all still sound as phony as Fred Sanford and all those phony heart attacks he has everyday, you can cry wolf just so much until folks don't want to hear from you anymore.
