Any Old TImers remember Awake (early 1960's) saying JW's could vote ?

b-deserters post reminded me of something that was posted quite some time ago, matter of fact, it could've been posted on tishies board, if some of us here remember her website.

a poster on her website quoted the exact date of an awake magazine going back to the early 1960's which clearly stated that jw's could vote if they wanted to, conscious was not mentioned in the article !!.

i went down to my mother's basement, looked up the exact date that was mentioned, and sure enough there it was in plain black and white, jw's had the vote!!

At the time I looked this up my mother happened to be having a bible study in her home on the Saturdays's that I was over there, I'll just chalk it up to "maturity" why I didn't come running up the steps and interrupt the brainwashing session with what I had just found in the Brooklyn Boy's old study material.

Any old timers remember the article I'm referring too ??

I've also heard her mention previously that her mother passed away at 40+ from heart disease, so I'm assuming that perhaps she fell away in late teens early twenties since she admits to being forty herself.

Any old timers from the West Coast, I think somewhere in San Diego, not to sure, remember the Shepard family ?? I know I've heard her mention a sister named Lauren several times too.

i wanted to send her an email, but THe View's setup for emailing the hosts used to go directly to each one, now it's just a general email all lumped together, for even when you want to complain about a sponsor or something, so if they have someone going through the email, I wonder how many get through to the actual host with the topic of "Girrlll, you were a JW too", so I never sent one.

anybody see NBC News, JW"S finaly caught re child abuse

they finally got caught, 7 to 10 elders were caught with child abuse.

alvin heard and james henderson just two that were mentioned.

Barbara Anderson was also interviewed, so needless to say she mentioned how they try to keep things under the rug. THey even admitted that contacting the police with such charges are RARE within the org.

I hope someone else saw NBC news tonight at 6:30, I get so F&*^ riled up when anything about them comes, up, please someone else shed some "new light" on the things I missed on the broadcast ! ! !

JW Abuse on NBC Nightly News admit didn't contact authorities

i hope someone other than me, saw nbc nightly news with brian williams, they finally admitted that 7 or 10 elders have sexually abused children, but i'm so f&(&^ pissed with them probably can't quote word for word, they admiited they never contact authorities, alvin heard, james henderson, just two names they mentioned, admitted to wrongdoing, along with the others, but police never contacted !!!.

barb anderson was interviewed as well, needless to say, she supported how the "holier than thou witnesses act when child abuse is charged,, they act like nothing happened.

society even admitted that they rarely contacted aurhotrities with child abuse charges !!

Hmm, I see it was mentioned that each line was about $50, and Hollis Cong. just has two,as if they couldn't afford more, not quite enough for the elderly who couldn't make it to the meetings

Funny Kingdom Hall Scandals

in one hall i was in, we had sister self-righteous.

you know the type, always pointed out how spiritual she is and how much she does for jehovah.

anyway, one time she invited me and my two kids over to swim in her pool on a hot day and i told her i could come but that i had my nephew up from ct for a visit and asked if i could bring him.

I guess in "Watchtowerland" it's kinda funny/pathetic, considering tthe mindset you're led to believe,after all we're all "made of the flesh", and the dubs recruit going door to door, so Lord knows who's behind those doors!!

I'm sure this isn't a unique situation in Dubland, but just remember a " "dyed in the wool elder" (go out in service every opportunity yada, yada, yada) and a pioneer sister fnally got disfellowshipped for their ongoing affair, as I remember he conducted the WT study on Sunday, letter was read on Thursday . . .but then again, what else is new in "Dubland".?

And then there's the elder (anyone in the Jamaica, Queens congregrations of New York will probably remember these two episodes) thatwas removed from his eldership because his youngest son couldn't keep it in his pants. got removed because of his son's behavior, started attending the Lynbrook Cong. out on the Island because he had connections there and was able to maintain his eldership. Gee, certainly sounds like the type of God's chosen people religion that leads to eternal life, doesn't it ? ? ?

I look much younger than the "half a century" that I'll become in December, so sometimes I like to drop my age to give my aging ego a boost, kinda enjoy being told I look "thirty something" .

FYI, in case you want to know of some celebrities you are turning a golden oldie this year, I went to high school with Ray Romano and Fran Drescher (have the yearbook to prove it) . Do you think they look good for turnin 50 this year?

In junior high I went to school with Russel Simmons, he's a vegan and it kind of shows on him though.

I FEEL YOUR PAIN !!!

I just bought a laptop in May, In June Rahjit or whatever his name was told me ( problem stemming from Verizon not sending the updating modem, that's another story) that my norton anitivirus was just good for six months and uninstalled, it !!! In the midst of between Verizon and HP I went to the Geek Squad ( there a God send ) to get the S@&)$*$T straightend out, turns out that Faquad or whatever the hell his name is from HP uninstalling my antivirius was the root of the problem !!! Tried calling them, Manager sounds like he was indoctrintated in the teachings of HP, (oops almost typed JW since his drivel sounded so familiar) so didn't get any where with him. Filled out the questionnaire they always send out, got a call from Carolyn (American) sounded sincere, said she would refere my case to manager or whatever, turns out the manager was the same indoctrinated, SOB I started out from the get go ! I GIVE UP !

Hey bbdodger, as you mentioned if headquarters got wind of that it would be stopped, needless to say our little rehearsals lasted a year if that long !! Gee, wonder what happened ? ? ?

Matter of fact I remember my mother saying, and this was in the sixties, that they reallly didn't play it that much because it sounded to much like gospel music! So how the heck did it get in the book in the first place?? Oh well, that was "semi-nice trip" down memory lane (considering the circumstances) remembering those old tunes

Any one remember "Take Sides with Jehovah"? I think that one was a golden oldie for the old timers, that used to be "their favorite jam", wonder if that song is in the songbook they use now.

How about that other golden oldie "Rejoice, Rejoice", (from the green book) and who can forget that ol' Haiwiann ditty, I think it was song #19, that some brother from Waikiki or something wrote for the Society?

Would you believe back in the 70's my old cong, used to gather on Saturday nights, to practice the songs, and we used to have a guitar and two violin players in addtion to the piano ! !
