I'll tell you what I think is even worse, and this actually happened a while back here in NYC. A man said that he was mugged and knocked out of his wheelchair and the muggers took it. Turns out it wasn't true, the guy just needed a new wheelchair, and of course people donated to him because they felt so sorry for him. One person can just totally mess up how you feel about people who really need the help.

That is strange, I was thinking a gas issue, but then it would've been much worse if that was the case.

I find it interesting to learn about James Randi writing on such a serious subject. When I was kid, there was a show called Wonderama and there was always a frequent guest on the show called The Amazing Randy doing magic tricks for the kids, I guess as he got older he dropped the tricks and got serious. I wonder how old he is now? -

Bygone Days of Old Bethel...
by freemindfade insomething occurred to me last night.
people that made their pilgrimage to jw mecca (bethel) would often be excited about some silly things, i say silly because for those of you who were there or lived near enough to be involved in these things regularly they lost their magic.
i am talking about on tours one of the most memorable things people talked about or looked forward to... lunch.

I remember we took the tour around either 1967 or 1968, so was just a kid, but my mother made a big deal about when we were visiting a Bethelite in his room and my dad who wasn't a Dub yet asked as we were all walking out of this room if he should lock door, and the Brother say "nobody has too lock their door around here".
My mother told that story ad nauseum for years about how safe Bethel was, well like I said that was about 1968, you certainly can't say the same thing now !! A story even made the local news here about ten or more years ago that a Bethelite was caught stealing from his "side gig" at a store or something, which is why it made the news. My mother refused to believe that until the Elder from her Hall who lived at Bethel confirmed it for her.

So Microsoft made a laptop - Surface Pro 4 / Surface Book
by Simon inmicrosoft definitely seem to be undergoing a revival and are coming out with some cool tech.
it's good to see them turning things around and keeping apple honest.. the holo-lens looks fantastic - much better than full vr headsets by providing augmented reality instead (imagine 3d minecraft projected on a table or aliens running round your living room to shoot at).. more practical though is the update to the surface tablet and the surprise release, the surface book laptop / tablet.
yeah, it's confusing - one is a tablet that becomes a laptop and the other is a laptop that becomes a tablet.. i promised our eldest a laptop for his high-school graduation and to use now he's starting university and took him to the apple store a few months ago but the macbooks i was leaning towards weren't available at the time.

My gripe about Microsoft is, if you buy a new computer you can have the latest edition of Microsoft Office loaded on to it of course, it cost $89, but Microsoft will now charge you yearly to use Microsoft Office, don't they have enough money ? I'm glad I still have the version of Office I got when I purchased my laptop in either 2006 or 2007, I recently had new hard drive installed which sets it back to brand new, so I just had my old version of Office loaded on again. If I buy a new laptop I'm going to use my old version for sure instead of paying Microsoft 90 dollars a year, plus you have to pay for Norton Security as well !
I noticed that the latest versions of Samsung tablets now have Microsoft Office loaded on to them. wonder if you'll get a yearly charge for it being on a tablet as well ?

We're not trying to convert you
by jws inrecently i saw a link to an article from the st. petersburg times (one of these links on the side of this forum to sometimes old articles).
it was an article about jws and their preaching work.
imo, middle to favorable.. but the one thing was from a door where the jws are saying they're not here to convert anyone, they just want to share a scripture.. what sort of bs is this?

My mother said that at every door that was opened that she knocked on . . .so obviously the lies start even before someone even decides to start studying or not !
