You mean to tell me people are actually studying with the Dubs now? I would think since the internet is such a big thing now and everybody looks things up, I would think there would be no new people studying with them at all. Instead of bringing back that six month thing I'd think they would be coming up with slick, new ways to get people interested. How to pump up the love bombing at the carts or something.

Oh Brother, another reason for pompous JWs to file a lawsuit
by ShirleyW ini guess some of you have heard that a woman that worked at a hotel and was forced to work on sunday's has now filed suit and won some major moolah.
so, how long before the pompous dubs who work on mtg night will follow suit and collect big bucks, i honestly think that a few have tried this before, but now that this woman and her bogus religion almost as crazy as dubs got a shitload of money, there will be many more lawsuits to come from a certain cult that either knock-knock on your door every weekend or sit in a subway station and just sit there and gossip about the other folks in the cong or steady dial up stuff on their phones..

Did anyone else have a JW "sliding doors" moment when they made the wrong call.
by dozy inreading the thread on mind numbing meetings reminds me of the following event that occurred when i was about 19.. i'd got a full time job away after leaving school and was working about 20 miles away - thursday night meetings necessitated working later , catching a 6.10pm bus after work and walking 10 minutes or so straight to the kh , often arriving just as the meetings were starting or a few minutes late and getting the "evil eye" from some of the jws when i arrived.
my parents ( father was the presiding overseer ) would bring my clothes in the car and i would get changed into my suit in the kh toilets.. it was one of those moments when all the stars seemed to align.
i had had a particularly stressful day at work and was even more tired & hungry than usual on a thursday night.

dozy - Interesting when you say your dad would lose his position as an elder if his whole family wasn't in da troof, I've heard that happening, but my dad was an elder and I was still living at home when I was over 20. I was never baptized and when I was around your age at the time my dad finally realized that I really wasn't into it and said I didn't have to attend the mtgs anymore, (my mother wasn't too pleased with that, but the wife must obey the hubby)!
The thing is though my dad didn't even get baptized until I was 18 or 19 and for some reason the brothers thought he was good elder material, so he was basically new at the game when he said I didn't have to go to mtgs anymore and he didn't lose being an elder. Just goes to show you that sometimes they come down hard with their BS rules and then sometimes they just breeze right by and nobody gives a damn

Saturday field service, at least 2 times a month. Meeting at 8:30 am, out til 12:00 pm
Incognigo - You were lucky, just TWO times a month? I remember almost every Saturday and Sunday being in FS when I was growing up!
We used to have our mtg on a Friday night for the longest time, even my mother said after it got switched over to Wednesday that she didn't know how she did it on a Friday when all you really want to do is relax since the work week is over.
We also used to have our Sunday mtg at 2pm for the longest time too. Go out in FS come home and then go back out to the mtg and wouldn't get home until around 4:30, you couldn't even pay to take a job now with those broken up hours on a Sunday.

JWs celebrating New Year's?
by neat blue dog inthere are a few active jws i know (separate, in different areas) who basically celebrate new years, having a party to watch the ball drop, posting about it on social media, one even saying literally "happy new year" .
but most other jws seem to not want to point out the elephant in the room.
has anybody else seen this, or ever seen it turn judicial?

The dumbest Dub party I ever heard of was when they gathered at this sister's house on New Year's Eve but left before midnight so it wouldn't be considered a New Year's Party - SMH . . .

Armageddon has started in Astoria, Queens
by ShirleyW innow we know that the con ed plant in astoria, queens had an explosion, but before anyone knew what the heck was going on, so many people were posting on social media their pictures of the "strange blue circle light" that was in the sky this evening, usually st. johns which is near me has a fireworks display after a game, i thought this doesn't look like fireworks, much brighter and no sound, it actually looked like it was 4pm in the afternoon right before the sun leaves the sky.. i live in the jamaica section of queens (just up from trump's foot dr. if you saw that article in nytimes.
com the other day) and haven't lost power but laguardia is dark now, no flights in are out.
just wondering how the old school dubs that saw the lights outside window, thought "finally, the big a is here" !.

All large Organizations know how to tweak the numbers to make themselves look good.
I used to work for two accounting firms, back then the major ones fell under the title "The Big 6",
I've worked for E&Y and PWC, they both know how to tweak those numbers and publish many articles saying that they're #1, when neither one of them held that spot. Even the TV companies, ABC, NBC, CBS have a daily war going on about their ratings, especially during the 6:30pm news broadcast. Did you know the anchors have a monitor under their desk while broadcasting live watching the other two networks? Everything is a competition and tweaking those numbers

Christmas arrogance
by stillin inone of the witness rebuttals that is used to belittle the christmas holiday is the one where they say that people reduce jesus christ to being just a baby in a manger, whereas the witnesses recognize him as a mighty king, a much more accurate and current way to view jesus.
a baby in a manger is a sweet sight on any day, it's true, but more is going on than meets the eye in the case of jesus.
this particular baby is the first baby to have been born without an earthly father, the immaculate conception.
-
ShirleyW
That's exactly what my mother used to say around this time of year, why do they keep him as a baby? I guess that's the best thing their pompous, smug minds could think of, forgetting that when she and others before they learned the da troof used to celebrate, so why didn't they say that back then when they were actually enjoying themselves on this holiday?
