Concerning why it's OK for God to destroy young children at Armageddon:

i don't know if this was discussed here before, but, what is the most ignorant comment you ever heard an elder say.
i once had an elder say to me that my brother, who was at the time fighting in vietnam will be destroyed and killed over in 'nam because he did not accept "jehovah"!!!!
i promptly told him to go "f" himself.

people sometimes wonder why, if i created puny humans in my image, i don't have a sense of humor in the bible.
I often wonder if You Know will ever make a post that doesn't contain a petty insult.
Jehovah's judgment is that what you dread will come upon you like a storm wind.
Let's assume that this actually happens. Jehovah's judgement, according to your theology, is to allow this "storm wind", this "tempest of human and demonic making" to occur. This will presumably cause pain and grief to all us accursed apostates. And while this happens, Jehovah will laugh at our pain and fear, and ridicule our no doubt pathetic attempts to preserve ourselves and our families.
And this is the action of a just and loving God, is it? All of this, just because apostates, and humankind in general, fail to believe the error-ridden, frequently deceptive and ever-changing jeremiads of an insignificant fundamentalist sect in Brooklyn.
Imagine a child playing next to a river. Maybe the child's father has told him not to play there. The child ignores the father, and falls in the river. The father sees, and stands upon the river bank, and ridicules the child's efforts to save himself because that child ignored the father's warnings.
That is the situation you paint. That is the black character you foist upon God. I am no longer afraid of God's judgements (if he exists) for I no longer have a part in that great character defamation. But you, and your masters in Brooklyn, who picture God as vindictive and petty and uncaring, you are the ones who should be in fear.

lagos (reuters) - a nigerian muslim sharia court has sentenced a nursing mother to death by stoning after she was convicted of adultery, a nigerian newspaper reported on friday.. the court in sokoto state in northern nigeria convicted safiya hussaini for adultery and ordered she be stoned to death once she has finished weaning her baby, state-owned daily times newspaper said.. the court acquitted yakubu abubakar whom hussaini said made her pregnant.
she has 30 days to appeal the sentence.. sokoto government officials were not immediately available for comment.
Pork Chop:
I would enjoy reading your textual evidence that not many stonings happened in ancient Israel.
Saying that they are not mentioned much in the bible is not a valid argument. For example, how many times does the bible describe Jesus evacuating his bowels? Are we to therefore conclude that this did not happen very much, and that Jesus was the most constipated man that ever lived?
Also, have you considered that there are propogandistic reasons for not recording large scale stonings?
Finally, isn't one barbaric stoning too many?

Jehovah, in fact, says that he is going to laugh at you and ridicule you when what you dread comes upon you when your world comes undone.
So here we have a powerful person causing pain and grief to others, and laughing at their fear while he does it. This is the God you worship. A bullying, petty, peevish and spiteful sadist.

i have heard several commentators on newscasts saying that the recent acts of terrorism are not religiously motivated, but motivated by ego or greed.. what do y'all think?
religious, ego, or other?
Religion is a product of ego and greed. The greedy desire to control others, and the ego to think that you have the special knowledge which makes control the right thing to do.
Religion is also the great exercise of moral hypocrisy. Deeds which in non-religious contexts are viewed as heinous, become acceptable and even heroic when one is accomplishing the will of god.

those who have not yet relinquished their right to think for themselves should be virtually certain that the story of noah and the ark is a fable.
those who believe the bible's stories are literally true find it almost impossible to address with a straight face the problems presented below.. then the flood came which destroyed every living thing which was not in the ark: "and every living substance was destroyed which was upon the face of the ground, both man, and cattle, and the creeping things, and the fowl of the heaven; and they were destroyed from the earth: and noah only remained alive, and they that were with him in the ark.
" (genesis 7:23).
Take one species: the elephant.
An adult elephant eats approximately 150 to 250 pounds of food per day, and requires approximately 80 gallons of fresh water.
That's one species of the 4,629 currently known species of mammals. Needless to say, all those species couldn't even fit aboard the mythical ark, let alone have enough rainwater collected aboard it to keep them alive. Unless of course you believe that all those species evolved from a few in a super-charged form of evolution happening over the past 4000 years.
at's also assuming God forgot the recipe on how to make more just in case they ran out
The great all-purpose thought saver of the biblical literalist. Invoke a completely undemonstrable and unprovable miracle from an undemonstrable and unprovable deity.
