isn`t it strange that jw`s have such a problem with ex`s?
try as they might to hang their watchtower labels onto me, i just don`t seem to be the person that they think that i should be!.
i think that i`ve become far more honest than the average jw.

Yeah, me too. I'm also still learning to recognise when I'm reacting in a conditioned manner. These kinds of discussions are really helpful, though.

Somebody:
I'm not sure of your history with the WT, it's just a few months since I made a run for it. Probably there will always be an association between the name Jehovah and the WT in my mind.
But, everytime I get the sticking throat thing, I make a conscious effort to think rationally; to recognise the lie they propogate of equality to God (while at the same time claiming imperfection as an excuse for mess-ups they can't wriggle out of).
The society has hijacked the divine name and used it as a propaganda tool. "We must be the true religion, as only we use God's name!" Rot!
While translator's of the bible did not wish to use the name Jehovah, read most eighteenth and nineteenth century religious books, and you realise that the name was in common usage throughout history. Only as religion itself has become less relevant to modern society has usage of the name declined. JW's have no monopoly on the name Jehovah.
Personally, I agree with Englishman. Lord God is a term I am far more comfortable with. At the same time I will use the name Jehovah when I feel it appropriate to the discussion. I will not let the WT control my speech any more, even if my throat sticks a bit!
On a lighter note, you could try watching Monty Python's "Life of Brian" over and over again. (He said Jehovah!..He said Jehovah!...)
What thinks you on ways to beat this form of WT conditioning?

the address below (posted originally on h2o by sharia) leads to a rather interesting page giving a suggested communique' to the wt to demand destruction of personal records that are being kept regarding yourself.. it is based upon the uk data protection act.
anybody in the uk tried something like this?
did it work?

Anybody in the UK tried something like this? Did it work? What records does the society now keep on publishers, df'd and da'd. in blighty?

Also, I heard that congregations in the UK can no longer use the not a home forms (S8)provided by the society, as they contravene the above mentioned act. Can anyone confirm this?

I too find the name Jehovah sticking in my throat because of the power of association.
I've always been a bit uncomfortable using it, as I happen to agree with the historical translators who felt that it was a bit disrespectful just to use God's name without a title.
If I were to meet the Queen I wouldn't call her Elizabeth. Of course, I also wouldn't say "Hello Queen" either; it also sounds disrespectful, even though it's her title. "Your majesty" is a much more appropriate term of address.
I'm not even sure God exists anymore, but I think I can at least call him "Sir", just in case.

Englishman:
One of the parts I like in the Old Testament is inGenesis 18, when Abraham questions God about not destroying Sodom. "But what if there are fifty righteous etc...".
If Abraham had been questioning the GB, he'd have been DF'd pdq.
Shame the GB can't copy God's example when troubled witnesses question today.

Nad:
I agree with conflicted. Assuming you are young and living with your family, making a sudden break now will cause enormous conflict in your family. Continue to go to meetings and in field service, but also continue to educate yourself about the WT society. Don't provoke arguments or heavily criticise the WT. This is hard, but once you have gained more independence in life, you will be in a much better position to gain freedom.
Hope things work out; let us know how it goes.

i left the jw's 11 years ago and even though i never looked back i'm constantly concerned about the things i do.
for example, my wife's family is fairly devout in their faith (catholic) and therefore i occasionally have to attend their church, and i am always riddled with guilt upon entering and participating in the services.
also, every time some calamity occurs around the world i am always wondering if "this is the beginning of the end"?
Hi conflicted:
I know how you feel. The stuff forced into you when you're young goes in a long way. They call it "inculcation"; should be called "incultation".
A couple of weeks ago I finally ripped up my blood card. It was tough! The guilt and fear were strong.
But for me information is the key. The more I learn about the organization I thought I knew, the less their hold on my emotions becomes.
Keeping in touch with others on sites like this one provides some much needed support. It helps to type!
