i thought many of you would enjoy this - o how i miss the good ole days of coming up with funky illustrations just to keep the faithful selling books.
how do we cling to jehovah?
thus, we don't run.

this is normie thoughts on the threads about the truth..... i have huge doubts about a lot of things about the org.
i have been a jw for 20 yrs and still active(family reasons).
but nobody but nobody has refuted to my mind, the fact nobody does the evangelizing work jesus did.
Normie:
JW's fixating on the spurious name Jehovah proves only that they think God's name is Jehovah.
It's a circular argument: we think God's name is Jehovah, therefore, since only we use that name to a great extent, we must be the true religion.
Someone could start a religion based on God's name being Ronald McDonald, and offer as a proof of that religion the fact that only they use God's real name.
Muslims have just as much conviction that God's name is Allah. Is theirs therefore the only true religion because only they use that name?
You base your belief upon the Bible, but that is another circular argument: God's word the Bible says God's name is YHWH, so therefore it must be. How do we know that the Bible is God's word? Because the Bible says so.
All other reasons given for proving the Bible in fact do nothing of the kind. As an example, the wide circulation of the Bible proves merely the historical dominance of European culture, not the divine inspiration of the Bible. Other so-called proofs can be similarly explained in a rational manner.
Your personal convictions prove nothing.

i was thinking about the post about japan closing about 300 congregations in the past 3 years.
i know that the hall i occasionally go to is usually less than half full compared to a few years ago.
my mom says that the elders in her hall are trying to come up with ways to get more to attend as attendance is really bad.
OrangeBlossom:
In Canada, meeting attendance is hammered into the flock at every assembly, and many times at the meetings themselves.
That's because attendance is running around 60-65% of publishers for most meetings. Sunday is better, but last I knew, it was still below 100%.
The society can't seem to get it into their heads that the meetings are dull, monotonous and repetitive. As usual, the publishers are blamed for having a bad attitude.

First: CONGRATULATIONS!
Second: There are only three necessary ingredients to a wedding: him, you, and the legal guy. Once you've got the turkey, the rest is just trimmings.
Third: You can be in bed within half an hour of the wedding. Not to be sneezed at...
Fourth: You get to PIG OUT on the entire cake (save me a bit of marzipan, at least in your thoughts).
Finally: I'm bloody well happy for you! Let us know the date, and I'll toast you on the day!

big boys don't cry!
well that's what we are told anyway!
and i guess this convention is widespread in many cultures.
Rabotnik:
Jesus could wear whatever he liked. That's the point. Just because Jesus wept doesn't mean every other male has to. Just because Jesus wore a robe, doesn't mean every other male has to.
In having this discussion with others, they've used the "but Jesus wept" line to imply that men should weep.
Put it another way: Jesus is said to have walked over the Sea of Galilee, too, but I didn't feel the need to imitate him when I visited Israel.

i`ve never yet been snubbed by a jw.
the reason is that i refuse point blank to speak to them unless they speak to me first.
so, if i`m visiting my jw mum and jw visitors arrive which they often do i just smile, raise one eyebrow slightly, and look `em straight in the eye!.
How do you reply to being asked: ”Do you think that you might turn back to Jehovah one day, perhaps?”
No.

DON'T GET ME STARTED ON THIS......Too late!
It used to be the pervasive view in many cultures that males should not cry. Doing so was considered a sign of weakness.
That was one extreme.
Now, in most cultures, the politically correct view is that there is something wrong with men if they're not blubbering all over the place. A man who makes an effort not to weep is considered to be a throwback or emotionally maladjusted.
That's another extreme.
I prefer not to cry in public. I can't remember the last time I did. I resent it when someone implies that there is something wrong with me because of this. For me, not crying in public preserves my self esteem and builds my confidence in my own self control.
At the same time, I do not judge a man who does cry over extreme circumstances. His ideas of self esteem do not have to be the same as mine, and if they differ they are not inferior.
The point is, everyone's different. Men should not all have to conform to a current politically correct idea about weeping.
And anyone who says something like "well Jesus wept"....Jesus wore a friggin' robe all day too!

imagine that you had never heard of the watchtower.
imagine that your life and that of your families had never been influenced by wt teachings.. i know for a fact that the wt's philosophy on further education contributed to my not achieving what i should have at school.
this is not to shirk the responsibility for my grades; ultimately they were my responsibility.
Wow! Interesting comments!
An overall impression from reading all the posts is that, sure the WT screwed our lives up to one extent or another, but now we're free let's get on and live life as much as we can.
Prince did raise an interesting point. But sharing experiences on this DB with others who are familiar with them, or helping each other go through the same things we are, is not whining, nor is it trying to "exorcise" ourselves of our JW past. Using this board is part of "getting over it". And no one actually said that the WT is to blame for all their problems and failures in life.
Prince: you got lambasted pretty thoroughly, but don't let it stop you posting your point of view in future.
LDH: I love it when you get feisty!
Redhorsewoman: Are you really a goddess? Since you're into horses, do you know Epona?
Thanks again to everyone, I was really interested in hearing what you thought.
