9. The Argument from Answered Prayers
1. Sometimes people pray to God for good fortune, and against enormous odds, their calls are answered. (For example, a parent prays for the life of her dying child, and the child recovers.)
2. The odds of the beneficial event happening are enormously slim (from 1).
3. The odds that the prayer would have been followed by recovery out of sheer chance are extremely small (from 2).
4. The prayer could only have been followed by the recovery if God listened to it and made it come true.
5. God exists.
This argument is similar to The Argument from Miracles below, except instead of the official miracles claimed by established religion, it refers to intimate and personal miracles.
FLAW 1: Premise 3 is indeed true. However, to use it to infer that a miracle has taken place (and an answered prayer is certainly a miracle) is to subvert it. There is nothing that is less probable than a miracle, since it constitutes a violation of a law of nature (see The Argument from Miracles, #11, below). Therefore, it is more reasonable to conclude that the correlation of the prayer and the recovery is a coincidence than that it is a miracle.
FLAW 2: The coincidence of a person praying for the unlikely to happen and its then happening is, of course, improbable. But the flaws in The Argument from Cosmic Coincidences and The Argument from Personal Coincidences apply here: Given a large enough sample of prayers (the number of times people call out to God to help them and those they love is tragically large), the improbable is bound to happen occasionally. And, given the existence of Confirmation Bias, we will notice these coincidences, yet fail to notice and count up the vastly larger number of unanswered prayers.
FLAW 3: There is an inconsistency in the moral reasoning behind this argument. It asks us to believe in a compassionate God who would be moved to pity by the desperate pleas of some among us — but not by the equally desperate pleas of others among us. Together with The Argument from A Wonderful Life, it appears to be supported by a few cherry-picked examples, but in fact is refuted by the much larger number of counterexamples it ignores: the prayers that go unanswered, the people who do not live wonderful lives. When the life is our own, or that of someone we love, we are especially lia

At our circuit assembly early this month a brother was relating about what he and his family have done to deal with the economy. He went on to say how they’ve cut back and simplified their lives and said they shop at thrift stores. This past Saturday while out in service I was talking with an elder and I brought up what the brother said at the CA and I told him that Mom never buys at consignment shops, thrift stores, garage sales, etc. she never buys anything used so as to avoid bringing evil into her home. He told he totally understands because when he was a child (he was raised in the truth), his aunt was always giving them things and he was always being attacked by demons. He said his aunt would give them good, expensive stuff but then the kids (he & his siblings) would suffer attacks from demons. All of a sudden I had a revelation (is it correct to say that).
“When Dad was in the hospital, Barbara* took off her chain with Dad’s charm of The Lovers, and said to me, “You father told me that if anything ever happened to him, I should give you his charm. But I keep the chain.” So, I took it and put it on my chain. Mom told me not to keep it but, it was my father’s and it meant a lot to me. And so, I continued to wear it. I started missing meetings and eventually stopped going altogether, became inactive. But, I continued to wear my charm, for 15 years. Then I started watching “Clean House” and learned you don’t need an object to remember a loved one. I have so many memories of Dad. So, I gave Nacho the charm and told him to take it to his friend the jeweler and let him sell it. Guess what, he melted it and I haven’t missed a meeting since.”
Never before had that crossed my mind. Mom was so right when she told me I shouldn’t keep it. Of course I called Mom and told her.

Listen ninja, no one is saying that we should just bend over and believe everything our "masters" feed us.
I'm just saying these claims are just outrageous. Do you really believe that there is a conspiracy by the major world governments to eliminate 5 billion people off the face of the earth? And that they are going to accomplish this with the swine flu? Was the Spanish Flu also a conspiracy theory ? Maybe the swine Flu of the 70's, who knows. As they say, remarkable CLAIMS deserve remarkable EVIDENCE. Where is the PROOF for all these claims this Dr. Rauni Kilde is spouting. The burden of PROOF is on these conspiracy loving people. The reason why I mentioned the JW's is because that's the way they sometimes reason. They think Satan and his world is always after them for some reason. That's what was feed to them constantly from publications and public talks. That's why the don't trust nobody. The believe someone is always after them. Again I'm not saying that we should trust the people in government in power. Of course we should question and demand PROOF. And I agree, there's always something behind the issue. So no, I don't feel I'm brainwashed. I just like to see PROOF for these claims, the same way I demanded PROOF from the WTS. And the same way the WTS explains their story with some, or half truths, the same way these outlandish claims that expect me to believe that there is some NEW WORLD ORDER that's trying to kill some 5 billion people. At least these bad wicked Governments "only" want to kill 5 billion, not 6 billion minus the 6-7 miliion JW's.
whereami, from the ingnorance is bliss class.
