.Parents who survived
by SheilaM in.
for those who have children over the age of 21. did yours suddenly think they were cool and new everything after their birthday?
is this a normal way they act or is my daughter just freaking out

I think my brother in law is your son hahah...
I dont have kids that old, but one of my younger sisters had a big chip on her shoulder when she turned 21...oh wait, it was there already, it just got bigger is all. Definately an age where some kids think they are adults all of a sudden because they can buy beer, and all of a sudden they get a whole lot of new underage friends.
I think I was more obnoxious when I turned 18 than 21. By the time I was 21 I was back in the JWs, and leading quite a pious (boring) life.

Why do the JW's not Believe in Hell?
by Tirisilex ini may have asked this question before awhile back but i was not able to find it in the search.
other than what the nwt provides for information.. how do the jw's provide proof for this no hell belief?

Look, in the end everyone will find out who was right an who was wrong, an if there is away to change your future for the better wouldn't you at least try to do something about it, I know I would an I did. Thats my two cent and a dime!
And that is why we are all here, archangel....so true...I so don't believe what you do, and vice versa, but everyone has a right to throw their coins in the thinking well....

I don't think the question is really, can you prove Hell does NOT exist, but can you PROVE it does?
I don't believe in a literal Hell; I have never seen any proof for it.
A perfect god would not create humans, give them free will, and then punish them in such a horrid manner if they actually practiced free will.
I believe Hell is totally a human concept, as other has stated here, to control people. The promise of paradise earth for witnesses I think was at times a controlling factor for them. I know I have been asked, " what do I tell your father when he is resurrected and you are not there?"
Also, if you are going to use the whole bible, the only reference I can recall about hell in the old testatment was when Job mentioned that he wished he was in Hades to escape his suffering. How would that be escape from his pain if he believed it was a place of fiery torment?
Archangel.... I believe Jesus lived and was a great teacher, but I don't think he was God's actual son, nor that he is part of some Trinity. And lets face it, Jesus was a great guy, but he was the king of hyperbole. I wonder how many of the gnostic books that were NOT selected in the 400s bc to become part of the bible mentions any thing that sounds like hell.
To quote Teabring, a character in Dan Brown's The Da Vinci Code...the bible is "not a fax from heaven". I will be responsible for my own sins, thank you very much.

that post about Jepthat's daughter just blew me away...I have never heard that before. Isn't that inconsistent with what the Isrealites did, though? It was my understanding that they did not make human sacrifices....I see all the references there.that you posted regarding her. But he had promised god the first person he saw, wouldnt that have been against what the Isrealites practiced if Jepthat knew it was going to be a burnt sacrifice?
are there other examples that you can give where the Isrealites would have offered human sacrifices? This was supposed to be one of the main things that seperated Isrealites from the other peoples out there...the ones that the Isrealites were practicing genocide against of course.

JWs Meet Opposition in Brooklyn
by Kenneson injw's applied for city rezoning in order to build a six building, 1,000 unit residential complex at 85 jay st. but the folks in that neighborhood don't want it.
"dumbo neighborhood association president nancy webster says the jehovah's witnesses' residential rezoning in brooklyn poses a threat to the area's development.".
see "dumbo says no" at.

That has to be frustrating for a community...I hope they will not have to let them in. It would be one thing if the JWs partcipated in local community events and charities...but you know they won't. And, they wont be paying property taxes...but of course the city will have to provide services etc...and a place that big, you would think it just may affect property values adversly.
The JWs need to have a place in an area where there are already apartment complexes. If they want to have the residents feel safer, then just move the wholed damn operation out to Wakill...or buy a bus and transport them back and forth each day. Then they can avoid the "bad associations" while going to work.
I think any religion has to show that they have charities or fund charities that give to communities regardless of religions affiliations BEFORE they are granted tax exemption. This preaching work stuff doesn't cut the muster with me...I respect the right of any religion to go out and knock on doors to increase the fold, but to say it is actually charitable work makes my skin crawl......ewwwww

Sheila, when I was dating a marine eons ago, I could not believe it when I found out how much he had to spend for the pins and buttons and all that. You would think that uncle sam would pay it since the pay is so low for our peeps serving in the military.
Congrats to your son! You should be proud of him. A lot of airlines will let people donate their miles to soliders; have you had a chance to see if you could gather up enough miles from people to do that for him sometime?

Blondie, we just moved from NH to Texas 2 months ago. My oldest is 12 years old, and he was heartbroken, but has taken it like a trooper and is getting along pretty well.
One of the things we did was to make sure we gave him a chance to vent about it, and listend. He knew that we could not change moving, but I think it helped that we gave him a chance to at least let him give his side of why he was mad.
Another thing was looking a lot of things up online. We were able to give him an idea of what activities were close by, he looked up stuff online at the schools we were going to be near, and he was with us when we picked out a house to rent. We moved everything we owned and 4 of our kids down without a place and just stayed in a hotel for a few days because we thought that it would be a help if he had input where we got a place.
I made sure before he left he had phone numbers of his friends here, and that we made some prelim plans for him to go back to visit during the summer.
My mother is going to visit in a few weeks for a little bit, and he is really looking forward to that trip.
Does she have any extra curriculor activities that she is involved with now like sports or clubs? I would see what I could find online for her about those activities in Vegas. You need to give her something to look forward to. My son was having a very difficult time in school. This was the perfect chance for him to start over with a clean slate. He started going by his middle name down here (he was picked on up there, and down here it would be worse because apparantly there are not enough Irish down here, so no one can say his name right). He misses NH, but admitted to me yesterday that he was happy.
I know your daughter is older than my boy, but I hope you find something here that helps.
