Anyone here got to meetup meetings for ex jws?

I never got a chance to when I was in New England..but see they have things down here in Texas as well.

I was just wondering if any of you have gone to any meet up activity...even if it is not JW related.

Ours are always cancelled. I think the time is really bad Sat at supper time - the pits.

Nos and I did get together once so far and I met one other person.

I just found out there is an cultwatch group set up for Wed 8 pm. I have signed up for it hoping that maybe there will be more people but so far it seems it is just me.

I went once and I don't think I'll go again.

The folks were nice but I felt like I was at a JW meeting again. I was the youngest person present by a good age gap. The three others were dressed like they were going to the meeting, legs crossed, very polite and proper. I felt like they were trying to nurture me because of my age. I felt uncomfortable and tried to hide my tattoos, thinking I would be judged. They also became involved in the organization as adults whereas I was raised in it. It makes a big difference in your healing journey. Two of the men were elders at on time so it was interesting to learn some of the tactics they used while under that role.

kgrrl, do not hide who you are for ANYone. If there is any lesson to be learned from coming out of that cult it should definately be that one! I'm (no doubt) a lot older than you are. Growing up is optional, growing old is mandatory. So I think that was definately the wrong crowd of apostates to hang with. What you have there is your basic anal retentives. Have a little fun with it, show them your eyebrow piercing and your latest ink. Have some fun! Live! The definition of puritan is the abject terror that SOMEWHERE ..... SOMEONE.... is enjoying themselves!!

And grrl there are a LOT of us on this list that do know how to enjoy ourselves without bitching about the WTS. We have moved on with our lives. You just have to know where the fun exjw's hang out.

Those "meet ups' on the computer don't seem to work very well. I think the apostofests advertised here are much better. I went to one and there were twelve of us. We had a real good time.

Ditto on the cancellation thing. I'm not even sure there are any other "active" ex-JW's in northern NJ, there seem to be several of you in the southern half of the state, but none up north where I am. I could sign up for the NYC one, of course, but then I'd have to go into the city on a Saturday night...
