I have always had a secret desire to be able to write my name in the snow...but since there is snow down here in Texas I don't really need it.
Kinda looks like cardboard doesn't it? I cannot think of a WORSE place to get a paper cut.
No thank you!

looks like someone was inspired by the wts......... .
company fires all employees who smoke.
by the way....I wonder when companies are going to start telling the obese in their companies to shape up or ship out. Conditions relating to the overweight can be quite a drain on employers some time.
(i hope I don't offend anyone out their with this comment...I am over weight myself...I think with how "big" the US population has gotten, it is going to be addressed at some point)

SOme smokers I worked with awhile ago were outside smoking at least 4times aday, and gone 10 to 15 minutes each time. This was besides their hour lunch break. But this particular group were lazy anyway...it didn't have much to do with them smoking. That was just the excuse to get outside and not work for a bit.
I have worked with other smokers who only smoke during lunch breaks or other break times, and never took more time than other employees.
I bet the company saved a mint though. Health insurance is so damned expensive, companies have to see where they can costs without killing good benefits for employees. I don't think it is necessarily fair, but if I were the owner, and was faced with cutting benefits for everyone, or giving a small group the choice to smoke or be laid off, than I think I would do it.
By the way, I am curious if these guys were actually fired or laid off, I am speaking in terms of unemployment insurance. If they are reported as being fired for cause, than they are gonna get screwed on unemployment benes.
on my "backyard rink" thread some of us were bragging about our kids.
confusedjw and scootergirl shared their kids' hockey and skating successes.. i thought it would be cool to have a thread where parents (and other relatives) could post their kids' achievements as they come along.. births, first steps, first words, sports/academic achievements, etc.
i'll start:.
my soon to be 14 year old is taking percussion...he just started this year. I am proud of him because he is working so hard to get better...just signed him up for private lessons so he can make band in high school. And his grades and attitude are better than last year...he helps me a lot with the younger kids. Master Halo2 player hahah
My 9 year old is a kooky but really fun kid. Smart too...she has been making honor roll, despite transferring in from a crappy school. Killer Halo2 player.
My 7 year old just got tested for the gifted program the school has...she is a little brainiac. Killer Halo 2 player
My 5 year old is in prk...they put her in a program for kids that the teachers think should be tested to get in the gifted program at school. I asked her recently "which came first, the chicken or the egg?" and she proceeded to explain to me that it must have been the chicken...because apparantly a chicken-dinosaur laid an egg, but what came out was all chicken with no dinsosaur in it....I think the kid just discovered evolution on her own hahah. She is killer at Halo 2.
the 3 year old...she is usually the happiest kid on the planet...until she doesn't get her way of course. She is the youngest comedianne I have ever known...always trying to make us laugh. I have been on the phone...and turned around to see her just standing there with a trash can on her head...waiting there for minutes quietly just waiting for me to laugh. Doesn't play Halo so well, but very good at Shrek Party.
These kids...they are a lot of work, but they are the best kids in the world.
he was the best.
i miss staying up late with my dad to watch him. We did mini bonding while watching his show...over his show and watching football games. Thank god the patriots are still around.
I will so miss Johnny...he hasn't been on tv for years, but I think knowing he was out there was comforting.
this is for those of you who sent me a private message saying you dont believe me, your letting your old jw traits come out, you know, not believing things when the facts stare you in the face unless it comes from the org.
maybee you should go back and re join them.. to confirm what happened .
i was at a john denver concert in the uk many years ago, he asked all catholics to stand up, after he got them seated he did the same with church of england, then the same with a couple of other religions, after he asked all jw's to stand up he announced that the concert would not go on untill they had all left and he then left the stage.
he had problems...true...but he knew how to write a song.
The man wasn't perfect. god forbid!
I have heard the same things about John Denver myself growing up. I don't know if it is true or not, and I don't really care. The guy is dead. This isn't the same things as telling the nonwhites to get to the back of the bus.
i remember this guy once, after the book study (the one where you go to someone's house to study a book) boasting on this house he wanted to buy!
it made me feel sick!
he was showing off so much!
That is interesting...it was the other spectrum at my hall. There were a couple of well off families, but they weren't really RICH by many standards. And all of the elders were either blue collar workers. Even the elder whose father was a president of some university in California (he wasn't a jw) just cleaned offices, and he was a pioneer.
I agree with blondie...it really depends on the area you live in. The city I live in has some very well off people in it. But on my side of the town it is more middle class. I have seen cars in the parking lot at the hall around the corner on sundays, and have seen cars in the parking lot of a KH on the west side of town. There are a lot nicer cars in the lot at the KH on the west side haha
.
i don't know if anyone already posted this or not....but the unitarian universalists have put together a rather detailed policy on keeping kids in their congregations safe from sex offenders, and on dealing with it in their congregations.. i am sure there are some parts of it that some may have issue with, but it seems reasonable on most points.

hey folks,.
an era in the ex-jw history is over.
kent steinhaug's site http://watchtower.observer.org is being shut down.. it was the first of it's kind, and to this day probably still the largest anti wt site on the net.
He needs to go somewhere else to have the site hosted. There are plenty of places he can go...I know it is a pain in the neck, but it can be done. $1000 does seem a bit much to me, when there are other services out there that will host it for between $10 and $99 a month, depending on what you need. Maybe Ken is just ready to move on, and this increase is just finally giving him the "sign" to do it.
