yes I guess I do, really. It doesn't bother me either. It is almost like seeing an ex boyfriend that you had a wonderful time with, but that it just didn't work out. I remember and cherish the good times, and try to leave it at that.

Jehovah's Witnesses...... A Connection still...
by ScoobySnax inwhen you bump into a jw who you've known previously, do you still feel any connection at all?.
i seem to be a magnet for them at local supermarkets, i always stop and chat and can't help still feeling such a connection with them.
they were my "brothers and sisters" after all.

Thank you All!
I would have thanked you earlier..but alas, even though we had a great anniversary...spent the whole day together, my internet connection has been annoyingly horrible the last several days.
candidly...you are so funny! My husband was joking with me at dinner on saturday, that I better not get the 7 year itch. I told him to just work really hard the next year to make sure I don't hahah.

Wow...what a complicated operation they had going.
I can see how they were able to manipulate the "friends", I feel sorry for them. The tax preparer thing was a stroke of genius.
They are truly evil though, how can you steal from the elderly like that?

JWs at My Door - and the Answer to a Prayer
by hemp lover inthis happened almost three years ago, but since i always enjoy reading about other people's jw encounters, i thought i'd finally share one of my own.. i lived in an apartment for four years following my disfellowshipping and no one had ever come to my door, not even so much as a shepherding visit.
(yeah, right.
) i had lurked on this board for a while, but was put off by the anger and negativity of some people and so i didn't stay long.

Lawyer Is Guilty of Aiding Terror (Women, When Are We Going to Wake Up??)
by kitties_and_horses_oh_my! inhttp://www.nytimes.com/2005/02/11/nyregion/11stewart.html?8br
lynne f. stewart, an outspoken lawyer known for representing a long list of unpopular defendants, was convicted yesterday by a federal jury in manhattan of aiding islamic terrorism by smuggling messages out of jail from a terrorist client.
in a startlingly sweeping verdict, ms. stewart was convicted on all five counts of providing material aid to terrorism and of lying to the government when she pledged to obey federal rules that barred her client, sheik omar abdel rahman, from communicating with his followers.

It makes me sad that she was not able to prioritize her duties to her client and her duties to the law.
Tough situation I am sure, but I don't think she was duped by any stretch of the imagination. She should have known better.

National ID Cards
by RescueMe inthe u.s. house of representatives approved on thursday a sweeping set of rules aimed at forcing states to issue all adults federally approved electronic id cards, including driver's licenses.
under the rules, federal employees would reject licenses or identity cards that don't comply, which could curb americans' access to airplanes, trains, national parks, federal courthouses and other areas controlled by the federal government.
the bill was approved by a 261-161 vote.

The problem of making states verify someone's immigration status is that this law is aa huge unfunded mandate. I don't think the federal government has proposed any real way to help the states pay for it.
Employers have to verify someone's immigration status when they hire a new employee. It is pretty simple, but it gets time consuming if you are doing more than a few people. I think the states are going to have to figure out a way to pay for all the extra work, possibly increasing the license fees. I don't mind paying a little more for my license to make sure we are not giving ids and licenses to undocumented aliens, BUT the costs to get this done in the beginning will be huge.
As far as privacy concerns, my only issue is that the social security number is NOT on the id or license itself. I can see verifying it, but not displaying it on the card.
