So, could you some it up as a celebration of family, and friends, and just goodwill in general?
I love christmas too...for the same reasons. But, I am just curious what people could/would say if they had other reasons besides those.
okay....i tried reading the whole thread about not taking christ out of xmas http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/6/97085/1.ashx, but really, no, that is just too much to read through...and i figured no one would both to see what i had written anyway...so here are a few other reasons for those of you to celebrate on dec 25th if you don't have "christ in your christmas".
i suppose if you don't have christ in your christmas we could call it "christmas lite" or "christ free christmas" "nonchrist latte with half decaf".
anyhoo.... 1. isaac newton's bday...a giant in math and phyics .

1. Do you know where my car keys are?
2. Do you know where my wallet is?
Those are the two questions I ask the most in my daily life.

Friends and family...I know many celebrate that part of it...the whole goodwill feel of it.
But what else, besides Saturnalia, and Jesus related reasons can one come up with for celebrating on December 25th?
BTW, Finally Free...that is a neat site..thanks for the link.
i am finally ready to move to dallas!

i'm moving from a 4,200 s.f.

1. Isaac Newton's bday...a giant in math and phyics
2. Clara Barton's bday..the found of the Red Cross, an organization that over the past 100 years has done as much or even more good than many Christian churches for humanity in general
3. Jimmy Buffet's bday...I don't think I have to go into detail on how important Jimmy Buffet is to the world. As far as I am concerned, if there is a paradise, cheeseburgers will be plentiful there.
4. Winter Solstice...or THANK GOODNESS THE DAYS ARE FINALLY GOING TO START GETTING LONGER!! SUNSHINE AWAITS US ALL!!!
Oh and a reason to have a moment of silence for the travesties and injustices in America, because Dec 25th is also the bday of Karl Rove.Try not to let that interfere with the day's good mood and festivities.
What reasons, beside Jesus do YOU have to celebrate on December 25th?
my family spends a lot of time on grooming our lawn, hedges and flowerbeds.
we live near a main street and there is a path beside our house that is often used by dog owners as part of their dog walk.. i don't know how many times i've watched people allow their dogs to urinate on our hedges and defecate on our grass, when the public park is just a few feet away.
they think that poop-n-scooping is the limit of their duty of neighbourliness.. today, i had enough.
Scully,
one of the reasons we chose a ferret instead of a puppy is that I don't want to deal with poop. A ferret is a lot easier to clean up after. And you know in a house with 8 people the mom always get stuck with it.
My neighbor's have a dog, and she has a few puppies. They are constantly getting out because of a small hole in the fence. I have had to watch my step on our lawn on more than a few occaisions. I have said a few things politely, and they are trying to keep them in...but I tell you, there is nothing more disgusting than stepping in a pile of cat or dog crap.
We used to have a real problem with a neighborhood cat that would crap in our lawn...I have run it off a few times.
the thing with dog poop and urine is you can smell it when it is hot outside, even if it is a couple of lawns away. My nieghbors go out and pick up their backyard every few days, but man, especially with this TX heat, it can reek to high heaven.
Good for you for standing up.

Ohiocowboy...so glad another yankee on the board is moving down.
My family and I moved down here from New England almost 2 years ago. It was van full of 4 kids, a 24 foot truck pulling a car, and we drove down with no place to live. When we got to town, we just found a hotel, and started driving around the area to find a house to rent. This, to me, being from a place where the rent is high and good housing hard to even find if you can afford it, was TERRIFYING!! Yet my husband, who was from Texas assured me we would have no problems. We found a place I think it was the 2nd or 3rd day here, and moved in a day or two after that. All that way, and no trouble...until my husband put a huge hole in the Ryder truck when he parked in front of the house....
Let me tell you something: Texas is a whole other country. There are a lot of differences, but most of them are positive.
I don't know if you are brining any females with you, but if so I highly recommend finding and reading this book "A yankee chick's guide to surviving texas". Very funny...but oh sooooo true.
I live a little north of Dallas. I don't see Nina and Big Tex that much, but it is comforting to have them and many of the other local posters near me.
Welcome to our little Apostate Paradise!!!
