i have read comments on several threads about the wts policy on asking folks whose homes have been repaired/rebuilt by jw volunteers to sign over their insurance checks to the wts?.
is there any kind of paper proof of this policy anywhere?
any further details would be kindly appreciated!!.
If you have insurance, and they come and fix your house up for you, I don't think there is anything wrong in asking that you consider donating some money when you get your check, I really don't.
However, signing over the whole check...it they are actually bringing your house back to where it was before the damage I can see that, but if they are not...then no. But if I had insurance and they worked on my house I would donate some of it. I think that is fair.
i went to a born-again christian church wedding a couple of weeks ago.
in so many ways it was like a kingdum hall.... and the person conducting the wedding was jesus this jesus that..... i just want to roll my eyes.. i think its because i been preached 'at' so much in my life as a dub i dont want to hear it anymore.
maybe im getting my head round the idea that beliefs and worship are best kept to yourself..... anyone else feel like this?
It depends on the context. If I am having a conversation about something political or something secular, and someone brings up Jesus/God I sometimes get a little uncomfortable, but I just try to digress.
This is an interesting question. My son has a friend that he started limiting his time around last school year because he was a "Jesus Freak" - now, I don't mean to offend the Christians on the board here, but to me, and to my son, that is a person that is constantly talking about Jesus and the end of the world at very inapproprite times. My son had a few religions discussions with him, but ended up telling him that since it lead to arguing, he now considered religion a taboo subject with him, and asked him to respect. Well, the kid is very zealous, and would not, so my son just stopped hanging out with him. The kid asked Friday night why my son finds him so annoying...I lookded at him and said ,"because he has told you several times he won't discuss religion, but you keep bringing it up. Respect that and you won't have a problem."
I hear peopole in restuarants and stores talking about Jesus/God here in Texas...it doesnt bother me at all..unless they start to infringe on me, which with the exception of this kid has rarely happened.
i have never done a 60 month loan and i have sworn i never would... but with how much cars are costing these days i'm wondering if i will have to do a 60 month loan on my next car.

Regarding paying a 60 month loan. I think in most cases it is not a good idea UNLESS your interest rate is 0% or close to that. The problem is that cars depreciate so fast you don't want to get stuck with owning a car and owe more on it than it is worth. Of course some brands hold their value better than others.
I love the minis...my husband really wants one, and hopefully in 2006 or 2007 we can afford to get a used one. We have never owned a brand new car...let someone else take the hit on the depreciation the first 2 years I say hahah. But the bottomline is this: if you get satisfaction out of the car, and if you can afford the payments, then I don't see it being wrong in doing it. It is not always just about money.
Now, if you do get a mini, you WILL give us rides in it right? I will pay you $10 bucks to let the hubby test drive it...he won't go into a dealer to test drive one until we are ready to actually buy one hahah.
got a phone call from my daughter who lives in florida a couple of hours ago.
her significant other who i chose to call my son-in-law (because he is the best thing to ever happen to her) got a phone call that his 6 year old daughter was killed in an auto accident near lake placid, florida and his 5 year old son is in very critical condition.
the ex wife is also critical.
I just saw this thread today....I cannot even imagine.

hey there.....i was thinking about this after reading through a few earlier threads discussing about the hurricane (this is not a thread about that by the way) which lead to people bring up personal hardships.
etc.. i too have had my share, but there is always some one that has had a rougher time than i have.
as a jw, i found that many of the hardships that occured to me as an adult was sometimes the result of poor decisions that i had made...but didn't realize that until after having a breakdown, and getting out of the kh (please note: i don't blame the breakdown on being a jw...just so you know).
But at some point, a fire has to be lit and action must take the place of boo-hooing.
And see...that is the attitude that comes through your posts...so I couldn't help but using use as an example. Thanks for chiming in on it.
I was reading the news..and I see that some people in NO participated in the Decadance parade...about 24 I think. Wow..talk about keeping a postive attitude in a pretty bad situation. Now there is articles about how of course there will be a mardi gras celebration in NO come hell or high water....(ooo sorry bad choice of words there) We can all learn a lesson from them I think...
Oh...and I am so holding my tongue on another posting in this thread...so hard...one that is an example of what I am talking about. But why whine about it? Absolutely...cuz I know you won't start a post two hours from now telling us all how your life sucks again and again hahah. I am thankful for the fact I have people to talk to when I have issues, and that there are online forums like this and other ones I can go to when needed.

yeah...okay...but how one does it is a big part of being responsible.
Talking through things with someone to try to figure things out is great. That is part of taking responsibility for your life. But, is that all you do with your friend? do you also offer support as well, or is 100% of the time you spend with your friend spent with you bitching about your lot in life? Somehow I doubt it. And if you are given some good advice as to what YOU can do, will you attempt it? You probably would right?
You may not suceed, but you are putting in an effort, and that is acting in a responsible manner.
