Beroean, if you and your family are truly happy, that's good. But since you mentioned psychobabble I can't resist giving you a little of my own (makes me feel important). First, not everyone without religion does drugs, has crazy sex, parties all the time. Some never do. Maybe some jw's need the religion to keep control of themselves. I've noticed that some jw's who were out for a while were total animals while out in the world, then they get all holy when they go back. Point # 2, remember that line " I think she does protest too much". Are you really sure you want to raise your kids as jw's? Maybe all this writing here is to find something to reassure to yourself that it's the right decision. Is there a little denial involved? Hey, think I can get 150. per hour for this? Since yours was unsolicted, Beroean, I'll comp you this time. flipper

What do you wish you were doing now and later?
by Crumpet inwhat i wish i was doing is sliding out of a hotel bed with a view onto the mountains or the sea and getting ready for a lazy day by the pool being served margharitas whilst i people watch and reading my book.
i'd plan on a pizza and a salad after a vigorous swim.
possibly retiring to my air conditioned room when it gets too hot for some fun with one of my two playmates.

I want to be out in the garden tending the vegetables and flowers...then go to the river and hike, read, float the rapids in my little plastic inner tube. I work at home which is really good but I have a lot of work right now so I have to force myself to stay in and be a good productive citizen. yuck. This weekend i'm going backpacking with my husband and stepson down into a pretty remote canyon on the Feather River. It's where there have been a lot of Bigfoot sightings and the 2 guys are really into those critters. If no posts next week from us, will you say a few words in our memory, Crumpet? Hope you get some time out of that old office........flipper

Did you avoid becoming a elder in order to take care of your family?
by flipper ini was raised in the witnesses from the 1960's on and my dad was an elder who invariably was taking care of congregation problems with publishers, constantly.
how many of us remember wives and children sitting at the back of the halls waiting for an after meeting elders meeting to finish, only to get more frustrated as an hour or so would go by?
for those of us raised in this it was always congregation business first, family second.

Misanthropic- At least your dad had humor. It's hard to draw close to a father when he's emotionally vacant for you all year long and then wants to go on a vacation thinking you can turn on good feelings automatically after neglect, thinking it makes it all better. Monophonic- Sorry you went through that too. It's so true that as an elder, if you want out, your motives are scrutinized even more than a ordinary publisher.Good luck on your friend's soft fade. he's going to need it. He might have good motives to do it for his family, but his fellow elders will probably question his motives, just the same, it's their way of doing things. Return Visitor- I often thought I had to watch my conduct as an elders son or I'd jeopardize my dad's position as an elder. That was the important thing, not his and my relationship. Weird. I commend you for resigning your position and seeing how important your family was and is. Not alot of elders like you. Most hang onto their position to the bitter end. It's all about appearance and personal glory. I'd say 70% of elders I knew did it for personal glory, maybe 30% did it because they cared for others. I'm quite sure you were one of those 30 %. Thanks, Peace to you all, Mr. Flipper

Thanks Bob, for that thread. I hope more will avail themselves of the help available to locate these molesters and bring public awareness as to who is a pedophile so innocent children can be protected. Please, anybody who knows of pedophiles, check their name out on the website Bob provided at the end of his thread

Were you or someone you know sexually molested by a Jehovah's Witness ?
by flipper indue to the fact there are about 27,000 members of this religion that are known pedophiles, and the information about it is kept in a secret database file, i wonder how many lurking jw's as well as others are aware of the severity of this problem?
remember, it's 27,000 pedophiles that they know about.
what about the thousands that don't get caught?

Amfree, thanks. As if this elder thought paying out money could somehow ease the pain. Hush money they call it? First time I've heard of an individual doing this paying privately. Weird. Just reminds you of what the governing body is doing now trying to silence all these victims with money. And the jw's claim to be morally upright? Excuse me while I reach for my paper bag, I'm getting sick again. Thanks for keeping this subject alive folks, Mr. Flipper

For those of us raised in this it was always congregation business first, family second. So I wasn't as close to my father as I would have liked, he was quietly dignified in an evasive, stuffy manner with not much sense of humor. I got along great with mom though as she balanced my dad out with her great humor and being real about life and everything. So I promised myself when I grew up, I'd have a much closer relationship with my kids or son, than my dad did with me.I wouldn't sacrifice giving all my time for the congregation at the expense of being a good dad. It has worked with my son. He's 22, great young man, in college, smart, cool kid. My witness daughters are devout in it due to my self righteous ex's influence but I love them and they feel the same. What about you folks? What are your stories of avoiding becoming an elder or "reaching out" so you could be a better parent to your children? Please feel free to share. It might help some lurkers who need to be more balanced about giving real quality time to their children. Thanks, Peace Mr. Flipper

Good point Lonely Sheep. The witnesses are taught to bury their emotions in favor of the good of the appearance of the organization. No attention is given to the psychological damage that's been done to a child abuse victim. Victims have to get that healing elsewhere with counselers, psychotherapists, etc. Also Silent Lambs can be a big help for abuse victims. Thanks, Peace Mr. Flipper

Song Lyrics That Remind You Of The Watchtower
by Arthur ini was listening to a song today by rush.
i had heard the song a few times before, but today i really listened closely to the lyrics.
i read the lyrics off of the cd jacket and the words remind me so much of how i felt in the watchtower organization - never being allowed to ask serious questions or raise any kinds of objections to organizational practices.
