How Did you Feel Being Raised as a Jehovah's Witness?

i was raised from birth as my family was in it 7 years before i was born ( 1952).

i remember wanting to go out for school sports in high school as my p.e.

Brain Dead- You have certainly come a long way. Animal- I'm so sorry dude you went through all that abuse. I'm so glad for you that you have a nice family now and kids and a wife who really loves and cares for you. Really enjoyed your experience, thanks for sharing. I agree with you, that you have to live in the here and now, forget the past, and move on, it's healthier. JK666- I agree. None of us fit in with the witnesses. mimimimi- Garbage is a good word for what the witnesses gave us, and a few more choice words were applicable too

What has Worked for You When Trying to Reason with Witness Relatives?

Hello folks. A loaded question for sure. After being out of the org. for 4 years I find that the longer I'm out, the bolder and more courageous I'm becoming in trying to talk with my witness relatives about scandals in the witness faith and disagreements on their view of education , among other things. Some of my relatives are so deeply entrenched as super righteous dubs, I don't think I could say anything to dissuade them. But my mom , who wants to keep a good relationship with me lets me talk with her and she actually listens. So hopefully some of it will start sinking in. I have one son who is 22 an ex witness, we get along great,very close. But my two daughters are still in dubdom, 20 and 19. I've tried to talk with my older daughter about the child molestation settlements and she said, "Well, dad, it's just Jehovah's way of cleaning out the organization". Sigh! So, any suggestions out there with you guys? What has worked for you? Have you been able to reach them at all with any kind of reasoning? I welcome any and all thoughts on this. Would love to eventually get my daughters out of it. Peace to you all, Mr. Flipper

since our dear friend core 88 has been feeling downhearted, my wife and i thought who else have we not heard from lately that could use some acknowledgement to let them know we all are thinking about them?

can you folks think of some posters who might be down or need to be helped to see they are needed or cared about when we don't hear from them?

We live in an extremely stressful society these days, and some of our friends on these posts are undergoing unimaginable stresses, that when observed would quite possibly make our own personal stresses seem not near as bad! Mrs. Jones- Mr. Flipper here. I tried to be a good little dub as a teenager, being an elders son and all, but it was hard, still had to sneak off with my teenage girlfriend sometimes and work rural territory out in the country. I always volunteered for it. Bad boy! Skeeter1- It's good you never lied to yourself. It feels a lot better being true to yourself and beliefs, not just being a witness to please someone. White Dove- I feel for you. I too had family in who were non witnesses I would have liked to have known better. Now most of them are dead. But I try to be with the family that wants to be with me. On the Way Out- Mr. Flipper here. Sounds like you are doing a great job of gradually schooling your mother on your fade. My mom is the same way . She is 80 and her and dad still want to have a relationship with me, but like you I just drop off little tid bits of info to her to let her see I question things, but don't diss her and dad for still hanging in it. I've even gradually shared the molestation settlement info with her, good results, and told her about me questioning an elder and his wife for 30 minutes at my door about molestation coverup and the witnesses crazy view of education. She is gradually listening to me more and more about stuff, so I slowly turn the heat up, respectfully, mind you. So you never know what might happen! Dreams of KH, Assemblies, etc.

so, i attend more meetings than most jws with all the dreams i continue to have regarding the meetings and assemblies..

usually the dreams aren't nightmares, but i'm supposed to give a talk and i'm given what i'm supposed to say and i tell the brothers there's no way i'm getting up there and giving the talk unless i can go off the outline..

most of the time, the dreams bleed into other areas of my life, like last night i was at the assembly and i saw this supposed life-long 'friend'....

HELP!!!

i have been in a relationship with a woman for 4 years.

we have gone through a lot of difficult things together, and always seemed to work it out.

but in the last few months things have gotten to the point that i am considering calling it quits.

JK 666- Mr. Flipper here. Lot's of good advice here. On the Way Out is good and Jeff and Sassy, too. I've had experience in a previous relationship (suffered 4 and a half years in it), where the woman said very hurtful things to me dissing my former religion, being an absolute emotional terrorist to me, and generally demeaning me constantly making me feel about 1 inch tall! Although you need to give it time to see how it will work out, you don't want to get in a co-dependent type relationship permanently with ANYONE who makes you consistently feel badly about yourself. You being the codependent and graduallyaccepting her anger constantly would only hurt you in the long run. You'd be living on pins and needles forever! I know, been there done that!. So, you have to ask yourself, honestly, would you be better off with her or without her? Only you can answer that! If you can get couples counseling it would reveal if she was really serious about saving your relationship. And while you do this in the process of making your decision, find some cheap meds, like has been mentioned, and try to see if her communication patterns with you will change. Just out of curiosity, does she do any illegal drugs? I'm talking, meth, speed, aggressive types of drugs. In my former relationship, the woman was a tweeker on meth, thus explaining her aggressive behavior. If that's the case my friend, you are in a no win situation, because that stuff is highly addictive and only 2 out of 10 who do that drug can kick it.Just something to consider for your own safety my friend.
