The victims of these molestations have been put through enough emotional turmoil through the whole process. If they had gone to court with it, who knows how long it would have dragged out in the courts, thus producing even more months, maybe years of agony to these poor victims. Just think of how long the Catholic molestation lawsuits dragged on. I think it was between 5 to 10 years on some of the suits. Would you want to have your molestation constantly thrown in your face for upwards of however many years? Now , maybe you can understand why they settled

Why did those 'paid off' by the WTS sign a deal to remain silent?
by jambon1 inknowing that this silencing of victims is one of the wts's main weapons of defence, why did the victims agree to remain silent?
is this not selling your soul to the wts?

by flipper inhello folks.
as you might have been aware, about a month ago after the catholic abuse settlements were made public aka jeff composed a great letter to the editor example to send to our newspapers if we wanted to use it.
i was so impressed by his letter decrying the witnesses hypocrisy in condemning the catholics but not admitting their own fault, that i submitted it to a local newspaper in a county near sacramento , california which has a good amount of readers from lake tahoe to sacramento.

Hello folks, back again. Just wanted to reply to your comments. Thanks for the replies.
Purple- Thanks for your comments. I hope you can get this letter to the newspapers in your area.
Collegegirl 21- To distribute this letter just make a copy off your computer and go to your local newspapers office and tell them you have an important letter to the editor you'd like to submit, and tell them your reason is for the safety and welfare of the children in that faith. good luck!
Orangefatcat- Some of these records are available to the public, some aren't. I'm sure you were made aware like a lot of us about Barbara Anderson's releasing a new cd full of 5,000 pages of in depth documentation of the recent child molestation settlements which were released by the courts. Many are ordering it. There is a link you can click to order it, but I'm not sure what it is. Maybe someone else knows.
Gayle- I will cut and paste a copy when the newspaper prints the article.Peace out, Mr. Flipper

Mr. Martian- mr. Flipper here. It appears your takes on this issue have nothing to do with reality. You are burying your head in the sand like an ostrich wanting to ignore the facts. There are plenty of people here willing to give you real enlightenment so you won't ignore the facts. Do yourself a favor and watch the 2002 dateline program in which it's revealed that yes indeed the society has covered up many cases of child abuse, even disfellowshipping those that reported it to the authorities, then disfellowshipping the elder of 40 years who in the name of justice for the kids revealed it. I think the ones who need to go to hell are the elders who allowed this to go on. Open your closed mind and smell the coffee!! Your brain is stunted. Mr. Flipper

Hello folks. This newspaper is going to print this next week. The editor was raised a witness and her mother was dfed and mistreated by the witnesses, so I think she has an ax to grind also in getting this information printed.I will print this letter again if any of you would like to use it to bring this to your local medias attention. Thanks Jeff!
Letter to the Editor
In recent days, as is well reported in this newspaper, the Catholic Church paid out a record $660 million to compensate victims of sexual abuse.
Not many months back , a lesser known evangelical group, Jehovah's Witnesses , also paid a settlement to 16 unnamed alleged victims of sexual abuse within the religion. The long time alleged coverup of these sins within that church make it, at least in some ways, even more heinous than that of the Catholic Church. Dateline broke the news on television with a program called " Witness for the Prosecution" in May 2002. That program is still available to doubters via the internet. Several alledged victims of child-rape within the religion exposed the coverup. They were quickly silenced by being excommunicated from the faith. Their only sin was pain and anguish from sins left covered and hidden. The director of a non-religious organization devoted to giving these children ( or adults later in life) a voice , Bill Bowen, also a Jehovah's Witness at the time, was quickly expelled also. His sin? Protecting the children. His organization, Silentlambs, is prominent in the fight against these horrific attacks and rape of children within religion, particularly within Jehovah's Witnesses, which he is intimately familiar as a long time elder.
Not long ago, Jehovah's Witnesses distributed a major flyer to the public, in which they decried the hypocrisy of religions that hide pedophilia within the church. Likely you got that little flyer in your door. In it , they picture a Catholic priest, intimating a disgust with religion of that nature. Interestingly, they are now found to be precisely like the church they condemn, and have condemned for decades. Yet, among the rank and file in this group, most continue to be unaware of the hypocrisy that has ended in hundreds of it's members being expelled and " shunned". The sin for which they have been expelled, was a desire to protect others from monsters hiding in the shadows of this religion.
The panoramic depth of this problem has been well documented. It is just a mouse click away on any desktop computer from within the privacy of your own home. Please make yourself aware. Protect your family, some of whom may someday think that they might join one of these insolar groups. While no one wants to imply that all churches have the same level of problem in this regard, ( there is likely some of it in all of them ) , the uneducated are always the victims of the pseudo-religious groups that cover up such crime.
By the way, in the case of the Catholic settlements, there was no restriction placed on the compensated victims. In the case of Jehovah's Witnesses, the recipients of the settlements, were "gagged" to assure they did not write books, or place simple letters in the local papers like this one. In so doing, I hope to be at least a small part of a large voice for those who must remain silent. These isolationist evangelical groups, many of whom believe that God is using them exclusively as the " truth", are unfortunately covering the sins of it's leaders with the tears of it's children.
So there you have it, the letter. Thanks to Jeff for this and hopefully the rest of us may use this to spread the word of these heinous crimes in our own ares

Request for Experiences
by dedalus insome of you may remember me from a long time ago.
anyway, i'm back now and wondered if i could collect some of your experiences.. .
my younger brother disassociated himself this week.

Dedalus- Mr. Flipper here. So sorry your brother is going through all this. It may get somewhat worse before it gets better for him I'm afraid, I've been there done that so here are a few things I can say.
My childrens mother ( still a devout witness) and I divorced in 1998. My children were 13, 11 and 10. After we split I was dfed from 1998 to 2002. My ex wife did everything she could to keep the children busy with friends and " spiritual" activities so their weekly visits with me would be disrupted. I had them usual 2-3 days a week on weekends. I never bad mouthed their mother as most psychologists will tell you it's bad for the children. I just explained to them that dad had different views of life , but that I loved them deeply and more than ever still. I showed that by example: Spending time camping, golfing, taking them shopping, the girls that is. If your brother just tries to be a great hands on dad, in time as they grow his kids will see he loves them.
In 2001 I had to go back to court with the ex wife to mediation with an attorney, because she would not let the kids come visit me much at all. She'd make excuses," they have their life with their friends, we have meetings, service, etc." Visiting with dad was low priority to her. But I was determined to stay close to my kids in spite of her. I knew I had a lot of social skill ability and valuable things to teach my children and was not going to let the ex wife determine how much they saw of me. The courts ruled that the children would be with me 3 days out of the week, and thats how it went till they were 18.
At 18 my son left his mothers house as she threatened to kick him out if he didn't dump his worldly girlfriend and be regular at meetings. I welcomed him with open arms and he lived a few years with me and now is going to a state university. Outside of my wife, he is my best friend. we are close. My two younger girls are married 20 and 19 to witness boys. I'm fairly close to my older daughter, but the younger daughter is resentful towards me as I haven't been active as a witness in 4 years.
Your brother needs to realize there will be only so much he can control as those kids grow. But the thing he can control is him acting with dignity, teaching the kids manners, social grace, and unconditional love. Those are things they will not be taught by the mother in the witnesses. Everything there is conditional. Good luck to your brother. Hope I gave you some thoughts to share with him

Purps- The reason the witnesses and or elders won't see the differences between spiritual sickness and mental sickness is because all they really care about is the spiritual sickness in their members. For years they have put down professional psychiatry to help people and in the same breath feel the cure for peoples problems is always a spiritual cure. Then they have the broad view of if you put spiritual things first, al the other problems, mental sickness, physical, emotional or whatever else bothers you will be helped by knocking on peoples doors talking about God's kingdom. And I feel they probably feel that way about pedophiles too. They reason, " If we can get this guy out in service doing God's will, it will make him straighten up." I know it's stupid reasoning, but I betcha lots of them blindly believe that. Now that's really sick!!! Peace out, Mr. Flipper

Undecided...not fair
by Cindi_67 inimagine a sister/brother is preaching.
the household is a family of "baptists" to give an example.
they start giving the message and one of the members of the family likes what he/she hears.
-
flipper
Cindi- i tend to agree with Changelings view because of having some of my witness relatives who will deal with me in my inactive state, but not dfed. If I was to be disfellowshipped it would hurt my 80 year old mother and 82 year old dad who have given their lives to the borg. They respect that I don't go to meetings and am inactive, but they still show caring and love. So I choose to stay faded but not dfed so I can still see them. They probably wouldn't see me if I was dfed. So it's a personal choice I make, and one that you too Cindi can only make for yourself also

JWs and the fear of death
by greendawn inthere was a recent thread on whether the wts attracts emotionally disturbed individuals which is unlikely to be the case since so many jws do not fit that description.
later i thought perhaps the wts appeals to people that deep inside have a fear of death which is scientifically called thanatophobia (from the greek word thanatos which means death) an excessive and abnormal fear of death.
what do you think, many jws find it very difficult to come to terms with the inevitability of their (and everyone else's) death and the wts plays with this fear and makes them believe that the end of this world and immortality for the dubs are very near.

Greendawn- I think gophers point was good in that their "alledged" hope of a resurrection keeps them in this false plastic hope for the future , banking on promises which you and I know won't materialize. It's what makes them weirdly " Stepford Wiveish" at funerals where they don't show any real emotion or sadness, just a giddy plastic little smile and the statement to the bereaving family," Oh brother or sister so and so, he or she is just resting now waiting for the resurrection. Won't it be grand to welcome him or her back?!" Gawd, that creeps me out . It hinders them showing real grief at funerals, which in my opinion my friend shows real mental illness. So I feel you can tie the two points together. Having an unrealistic view of death warps proper emotional comforting of others when they obviously need it of the can't stand witness funerals class!

Because the jdubs considered college to be evil, it forced me into making the really big money cleaning toilets, doing late night " strip jobs " no not my clothes but stripping floors, an incessant need to sleep at my customers offices to survive when working all night , and trying to down 200 ounces of caffeine in the mornings to drive and make it home alive , just to take another nap. Then repeat the same damn process the next night. Am I bitter? Naw!! I'm a upbeat guy! Peace out, Mr. Flipper Now I consider myself a janitorial shrink! Self educated!
