Holly - this is a very interesting topic and one that should warrant very deep soul-searching amongst practicing JWs.
Although I no longer attend the meetings and therefore am not a practicing JW, I am glad that I got baptised before the change in wording. As a Christian, I am comfortable with the wording of the vows I made at my baptism and can in all good conscience still work within them.

72% Voter Turnout in Iraq
by Elsewhere inthe voter turnout for the 2004 us presidential election was 60.7% (http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/a10492-2005jan14.html).
despite being threatened by terrorists, iraq's voter turnout was much greater than the last us voter turnout!
i'd say it was a far greater success than expected!

Heathen - what a load of rubbish you talk. You have obviously never visited, let alone lived in a country, where sufficient food and water are the number one priorities of the day.
Personally, I can only wish the best for the ordinary people of Iraq.

I believe that Myra Hindley became a Christian and that she even had support from high up in the C of E, but that didn't do her any good in her attempt to released from prison. Public opinion is far too strong to allow people who commit horrific crimes to ever be released..

This is a very serious statement you have made. Please back it up with a quotation from the paper if you have it.
Broadmoor, where this vile person is held, is a top security mental hospital/prison, I cannot see that the JWs would ever be allowed in to study with anyone. But then again, stranger things have happened.

Intro from new member
by lespacino1 inthis site was recommended to me by someone on another ex-jw site i began frequenting recently.
anyway, i am an ex-jw who has been disfellowshipped for about 7 years now.
i was raised as a jw from the age of 4, didnt take to it until i was befriended by a pioneer who was an elder's wife, and she began a bible study with me because my mom ddnt have time to have bible studies with all of my siblings and me, there are 10 of us.

Would Jesus shun anyone?
by JH ini can't imagine jesus shunning anyone.
on the contrary, he went towards those who needed help the most.
if the jw's followed jesus footsteps, they wouldn't shun.

I never shunned anyone in the manner decribed above when I was an Elder. I always welcomed a DF'ed one with words or a smile. I figured they made the effort to come....why not acknowledge it?
Gumby - I can see why you and I are no longer elders.

i see a few girls that i want to ask out, but i dont know if they're single or not or if it would just come off being wierd stalkerish since its the middle of the year and ive never really talked to them much.

I didn't get to go to my prom.
Sorry about that Lisa.
Since I am no longer an example in the congregation (don't go in fact) - I let my daughter go to her prom last year.

I remember that letter being read out at a BOE's meeting.
Whilst I can see some arguement for a central response to some issues; surely "the racial makeup and diversity of the congregation" could only be aswered locally.
Basically, what they are saying is 'we don't trust you to answer anything for yourselves'.

Who besides WTS believes in 607?
by ezekiel3 inthis is a genuine question on my part.
i understand the arguments for 587 vs 607 regarding the destruction of jerusalem.
what i want to know is, are there any organizations (religious or other) besides jws that believe 607?

Ezekiel3,
That's a good question you raise.
You would think that if 607/537 are such pivotal dates as the WTBTS makes out, then they would be incontrovertible or at the very least accepted by a majority of historians. Surely, God wants to make things as easy as possible for people to recognise the established kingship of his son and not make it like something out of the Da Vinci Code.
