My view is that the effort put into the drive to encourage brothers to reach out is inversely proportionate to the need.
If a congregation of 100 publisher, 8 elders and 6 MS, then they are not bothered at all! If you are in Eastern Europe, S America or Asia and have 40 publishers and just 1 elder and MS then yes.

Special meeting for brothers: reaching out - Is this happening elsewhere?
by truthseeker ina friend of mine who is being "groomed" for ministerial servant told me that after the service meeting, the elders, ministerial and all brothers will be having a special meeting about reaching out.. i am told that interviews and demonstrations will be featured.
i wondered if this has anything to do with recent kingdom ministry school - is this meeting being repeated in other areas?
i think that with one of the lowest increases of the witnesses in decades; 1.3%, falling memorial attendance (their best indicator that they always used) and flat growth, they are probably quite worried about the situation.

Thank you for that personal insight.
I was a JW all my life, and all though other circumstances conspired against me I my eventual demise and leaving the 'truth', I was very influenced and moved by my living in Asia for a while. I came into contact with Hindus, Jains and Buddhist ideas that I had never experienced prsonally.
I am no expert on Buddhism but am beginning to lean in that my direction myself. -

An excellent movie. Mr Thumnus (not sure of spelling) was excellent, just how I imagined him and the wicked witch was, at the same time, wicked and sexy - just right as a symbol of femine evil.

I was listening to an item on the radio the other week about male sexual impotence and does the male libido diminish with time. Interestingly, the doctor commented that often a male who thought he had a lack of sex drive changed when he got a new mistress. It seems that with men at least, fancing your woman has a lot to do with it.
I have been married for 28 years and still fancy my wife like mad. She is still extremely good-looking and attractive. So may be that is the answer,; find someone who you will still fancy in 30 years time.

i don't know if it's only our congregation or every congregation was the same, but no door to door was organized on christmas day.
that was the only day of the year that the jw's in our area wouldn't go pest people.. wonder why?

It is even worse.
What you cannot glean from these figures is just how serious the drain of young people is. The days of enthusiastic young people coming through the ranks and 'reaching out' for responsibilty are long gone.

I subscribe to National Geaographic magazine.
It content and research is generally excellent and way better than anything Awake churns out.
I have some idea of how the Awake editorial process works out. As Awake correspone in some far flung corner of the earth, say India, you submit an article on some local subject and it goes through so many iterations of editing by Brooklyn, that by the end of the process they may have written it themselves without ever visiting the country.

Living proof: Elders are not spirit appointed
by IP_SEC inwitnesses say that elders are appointed by holy spirit.
the bible is the product of hs and when the body prays and uses the bibles qualifications for older men in the context of the perspective candidate hs is involved in his approval or disapproval.
then when the co passes the recommendation on the gb (or who ever actually makes the decision) these spirit appointed men are influenced by hs.. all well and good, the only problem is, it does not work.

Not so sure that you were a typical elder. Personally, both prior to being appointed and after, I was beyond reproach.
I do take your point however, that being appointed as an elder is more often a case of how well your face fits rather than anything to do with the holy spirit.

why disfellowshipped?

I am not disfellowishipped, I simply left.
However, you need to realise that disfellowshipping is a control mechanism design to keep the rank and file in order and, as such, anyone who becomes a baptised JW and then flouts the rules or leaves is liable to be disfellowshipped.
You should also note that there are subtle changes taking placed regarding disfellowshipping designed mainly at avoiding litigation. At one time an annoucement was made that Bro/Sis SoAndSo has been disfellowshipped or has disassociated, the current wording is "no longer one of Jehovah's Witnesses". This has been worded in such a manner that it looks as if the person involveed has left of their own accord, whereas in the majority of cases they have been booted out.
Those of us who have been around JWs for a long time know how things operate and can often avoid falling foul of the system. Unbaptized publisers and new one need to be careful - you'll not know all the unwritten rules and protocols.
