There is a bit of a dilema here for Witness theology here!
If the world is filled with violence and uncertainity - people are attracted (perhaps frightened) towards the 'end of the world' doctrine. On the other hand, if the world does become peaceful then people are not.

Whatever Happened To THIS Belief?
by Sunspot inas jws, we used to be told that "when they are crying peace and security, the end will come".
nothing indicates that this will be happening any time in the near future, but the "new" tract would seem to make people think the "end" will be soon.. has the wts changed this "peace and security" teaching over the past few years?
if they have changed their thinking, how have they worked their way around that one?.

My take on this -
Christianity has been full of violence right up till the last century - just think about WW1 and 2. Prior to that the history of Christian was full of blood, the Crusades, etc.
Islam still seems to be in its Dark Ages but somehow I don't think it will be centuries before Islam 'grows up'.

Gripped by Islamaphobia - now Muslims cheating at cricket!
by eyeslice inthe uk is currently gripped by an intense debate over islam and islamaphobia (fear of muslims) is a new term coined by the media to descibe the feelings of many.
perhaps they see all muslims as fanatics and potential suicide bombers.. .
and now to add insult to injury, two pakistani cricketers, shoaib and team-mate mohammad asif, tested positive for nandrolone!.

g'day Unc'
What a spot on comment. Spent many hours on the sub-continent watch or playing cricket with the kids. If only we forgot politics and just concentrated on sport!

How did you feel, when you missed your 1st Memorial?
by JH ini remember going to each memorial even when i was inactive.
i felt that i had to go to atleast that meeting.. then one year, i was sick on that day, and didn't go to the memorial.
it was a funny feeling to miss the most important day of the year, as a jw would call it.. but i got used to it, when i missed my 2nd and 3rd memorial..

Don't know the answer to that - I have never missed a memorial in over 50 years, not even for illness.
However, I haven't been to a 'normal' meeting at our local KH for 3 years now and though I attend the Memorial to support my long-suffering wife, we have managed to out of town for the past couple of years so attend a different congregation. I am more comfortable with that. -

Greg Stafford says racial unity among JW's makes them God's people

My experience is that most JWs are racially tolerant. I don't think it is an area that you can critise then for.
Is it a sign that they are God's people? Not really, I am sure that as a generality Budhists are even more racially tolerant. -

I wouldn't mind a discreet tatto in a discreet place - not sure what or where. But at 54, I might be a bit long in the tooth to get one.

Eisenhower used WT Bible when sworn into office
by Bonnie_Clyde injoel rosenburg was on tv a few minutes ago talking about eisenhower's background.
he mentioned that his father left the religion after the end of the world did not happen in 1914 and that his mother continued.
then he mentioned that when he was sworn into office, he had his hands on a bible published by jehovah's witnesses.

1914 ,the Generation that got tossed in the Garbage Can
by OUTLAW inas many of you know i`ve just got back to the board in the last little while..what did i learn yesterday?..the generation of 1914 means nothing..nothing!
!..back in the day,you could have been disfellowshipped for such a remark..disfellowshipped!
!..what did you think and how did you feel when you found out the generation of 1914,now means nothing?.....outlaw

A slightly off topic point. Although the 1914 generation idea has been tossed in the garbage, the 1914 establishment of Christ's Kingdom hasn't and it is still a corner-stone doctrine. This does lead to the question; just what has this invisible kingdom been doing for the past 92 years?
