Christians - Convert me! I'm Pagan!

following on from terry's thread about mind filters and being open minded....... i'm neo-pagan.

but i'm willing to consider christian belief systems.. just recently i've been studying the jewish kabballah (qabalah).

I'm a Christian... but I think that I don't fit the description of the typical fundie Christian...

...looking back, I came so close to being a Pagan myself.

"Do what you will and harm none"... if only the Christians had adhered to that message

For me, it is about what "clicked"... I was exploring faiths and as beautiful and as free-flowing as Wicca was, I just didn't "feel" anything.

Also, I didn't respond to this thread because, if I remember rightly, one of the tenants of Wicca is to not make another deviate from their chosen path, so I felt that I should extend the same to you.

If you boil Christianity down to the two commandments, "Love God, and love your neighbour as you do yourself", we are pretty much in the same place I guess.

To tell you the truth, I guess that I may be classed as a Christian Mystic... but I prefer the term PanENtheist - I believe that we are all "one"... yet God is more than the sum of "creation".

How does that sound ?

i have absolutely no idea how to get through to some people.... i mentioned the 1935 change to a jw, and told him that i'd seen the change coming... it was a logical progression, not a revelation from god to the fds.... his response ?.

That wasn't what woke me up. I did not really give a fxxx about the doctrines, deals and agreements, minor/major fulfillments, and the like. What I didn't like was the way I was treated so poorly. They literally wanted me as a slave among them, to give up my life and sacrifice it to support others (so much for Jesus' ransom sacrifice being perfect and nothing more ever being needed). That was sufficient for me to turn apostate just to give them slaps in the face. If I can dig up dirt on them and throw it in their faces, that is a bonus.

Again, this seems so familiar.

It's almost as if "what we believe" isn't as important as "who we are".

I am basically trying to ask him to read the literature rather than just highlight the relevant answers in the study - hopefully some of it will SHOUT at him.

The Oracle... Thank you... I guess that is what I am trying to do, but it came across here as me jumping up and down sounding like a screaming apostate foaming at the mouth
I'll pursue the "what do you think" line a bit more.

Yes thank you OOMPA... Dawg... I like the thinking. I guess that I should elaborate a bit... oddly enough I am trusted by this person. He has also said that he doesn't consider me apostate or that he doesn't think that I am a "goat". He has also checked with "the Society" about several of the things that I have shown him... they all pan out to be true. But he even said to me that no matter what they taught, he would continue to believe that they have the truth. I was just surprised... ...anyway, we continue to discuss things together. It goes deeper than that, but I can't share the entire story at the moment - hopefully one day I'll be able to. AO

Giving them a little shake might help. Trying to give them a little shake, failing, and giving them another one will set off their aposta-radar, and they won't be your friend any more.

I can see that would be true generally, but this relationship has gone past that...

...we are both discussing the failings of the organisation openly, yet "It is still the truth" to them.

i spoke to my jw mum about the new watchtower study magazine and how in the first issue there is a change in "light" regarding the anointed.. she was floored and totally accepted that if they started to accept new anointed ones (non-replacements) that it *could* indicate that the society are extending the time once again regarding the coming of armageddon.

the idea is that if they accept new anointed ones, then they could be fairly young, hence they could still be around for a lot more years!.

Currently the teaching is that "generation = bunch of wicked people" - has been since 1995. Until the new light is switched on. Someone please correct me or confirm this please.

Wow thanks for those links.
I now understand the following:
* The JWs said that the calling of the anointed had been over in 1935 and any new ones called were replacements for anointed ones who fell away
* They NOW say that the number (144000) was not sealed in 1935 and that new ones could be called to be anointed (not as replacements)
The result of this is that they will prolong the years left before Armageddon. Anointed Ones will be alive for many years to come, since some younger people could now be called to fill Jehovah's requirement of 144000.
What I still don't fully understand is the actual "generation" idea. It has been said that the generation could now mean "the anointed". Are there any references to that in the literature of the JWs?

Not yet... as far as I know it is only verbal at the moment. Apparantly it was anounced at a shareholders meeting. We will have to watch and wait. A poster on here dug out some old references that show that the concept of the "generation = anointed" was taught in the old Watchtowers before being dropped. I'll see if I can find those posts. AO

Yeah, my reaction would have been 'ZZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzz......' in a different time in a former life. The question you should be asking is 'why is what they believe such a problem to me?'

It's a problem to me as I have some good friends that are caught up in this...I'm trying anything to give them a little shake. Or did you mean that I should be asking THEM that question... "Why is what the FDS believes such a problem ?"
