The C word
by ness inhow do your minds work people??.
the word 'cult'.
who is comfortable saying they were raised in a 'cult' or were brainwashed temporarily by a 'cult'?.

I generally stress that the actual people in it are mostly nice and just following the rest so as to keep their friends and family and as for the religion - at its best it is a high control group and at its worst it is a cult.

wedding invitation revoked
by jeanne40love ini have been associated with jw's since birth.
i raised my kids in the religion....thinking it was the only way.
recently, my daughter (who was baptized at 15 she is 24 now and has since stopped attending meetings, has been in a relationsip with a man and now has a newborn baby) was invited to a witness wedding and subsequently uninvited b/c she could possibly stumble the jw's who would be attending, since she has had a baby with a non witness and is not married.. .

cheers.

A debate on childrens haircuts
by tinker inwithout giving my personal opinion i would like to ask the board, 'what is your view of children with mowhawk haircuts'.
our family has an ongoing debate as to what is considered an acceptable hairstyle for boys age 5-8. please be unbiased reguards what you may think is my personal feeling.
your input would be greatly appriciated.

well i figure hair is hair, it will grow back - it's silly when people cut their kids hair in a certain way that some would not consider acceptable - the kid has no choice and should not be judged.

As A Witness, What Were Your Aspirations?
by minimus inhaving been raised a witness, i was taught to never refuse an assignment.
view everything as a "privilege from jehovah".
so naturally, wanting to be an elder was very important to me and to my family.

even though I was abused, it was the lack of love I was shown that made me walk away in the end.
