  i should introduce myself, since this is my first post.

  i'm actually not an ex-jw, but rather someone who has just lost his faith in a different church, the mormon church.

  i've long suspected that in terms of the organizational aspects of our two churches, how they hook you mentally, how they condition you, how they socialize you and make it very hard to leave, from an abstract level there's really not a dime's worth of difference.

  And you know what's cool? It's cool to realize that I really am just like you guys. There's no difference between us in a sense, because we're all people who've come out of two of the thousands of the world's false religions. My church isn't any more non-true than yours, and yours isn't any more non-true than mine. They're both completely and utterly not true, and now, rather than being "special" people, blessed with an honor most people in the world didn't enjoy (membership in God's one true church), we're all just human beings, trying to figure things out and make the most of our lives.

  That is so true, also true that you only have to change a bit of the jargon and it could be a JW writing just like you say.

  I think there are discussion boards for x-LDS, have you seen any? There are a number of ones on this board who have never been JW so don't feel as if you can't post here because of that, most discussion is welcome here, we only gun down trolls :)

  i joined this forum a couple of days ago and didn't want to just keep lurking, so here goes!.

  my family have been jw's since before i was born, i was baptized at 12.i have six sisters, only one who still attends meetings.

  my mom and stepdad no longer attend either.. i met and married my so in the congregation that i attended.

  i am a nondenominational christian and i was wondering how jehovah's witnesses view god regarding his providence.

  do they believe that he is in control of the ongoings of earth and with our life at all times or sometimes or not at all?

  do they feel god knows the number of our days and takes us when it is time to go?

  They do read the bible but are not allowed to read it and discuss it on it's own, it has to be with the use of the JW literature. People did used to have private study groups at one point but know very frowned upon

  They talk about kindness and developing a loving heart, but their actions and dogma say something entirely opposite.

  too right.

  And it ends up a broken heart when realising it's a cult and how awful you have been to so many people. I was horrible, but that was my cult personality, not my own (I hope!). Now I am mending my broken heart.

  i sometimes can come across more abrasive than i think i am.

  heading to the apostafest this weekend, we have made a deal with our friends to look after our kids.

  given that they already have 3 children, adding 3 more could be stressful so we thought we would ask my parents if they wanted to take one overnight.

  bobbi mentioned that she hadn't really heard much from my mom and suspected something was up.

  If You Were Single, Would You Ever Date A Married or Separated Person?

  lately, i've seen more than a few unhappy couples go their own way and do their own thing.

  one guy i know regularly dates women only on friday nights but comes home to his wife the rest of the time.

  my impression is she doesn't want to know what he's doing------just as long as he comes home to her.. i know a state senator's wife who has 2 kids and she's miserable with her politician/lawyer husband but in public they look like the perfect couple.

  If I were single (I'm not) i would not date someone who was married or merely seperated unless I know they were going through a divorce and just waiting for the papers. Why? A relationship is built on trust, one where you both start out as cheats doesn't have much going for it.

  hello my friends .

  well, i just wanted to share our special day with you guys too , because you folks have become close like family to us !

  for mrs. flipper and myself being in our late 40's, early 50's, with all the challenges we had over the years before we met, being with the wrong people who took advantage of our kindness when we were both in other relationships , we truly do feel it is a miracle that her and i finally found each other later in life and found real happiness in a marriage.

  My first post

  i was kind of skeptical about registering or even posting anything on this site but after a long struggle of going back and forth and after talking to a friend telling me that it would be good for me i decide to do it.

  i grew up in a jehovah witness house hold.

  it all was great a had a wonderful childhood but everything went down hill when i started to have my own opinion on things.

  Yes there is life outside the JW's - make friends, if you don't know how (JW's can be slightly socially backward when coming out as you are programmed to think of all non JW's as bad people no matter how nice they seem), go to night classes (I learn spanish), volunteer (I don't do this but you may like it!), joins clubs (I play rugby and go dragon boating).

  Get to know yourself and learn from your experience, you were bought up as a JW so didn't have much of a choice but if you are ever approached by anyone asking you to join any organisation you now know to do your research and find out what they are really like before joining.

  I've read "crisis of conscience" by fred franz and I really enjoyed it and it made me see the silliness of letting a bunch of old men in NY decide how I should live my life.

  And sites like this make you realise you are not alone.

  Cloth Diapers

  so .. my husband and i are going to start trying for kids next year.

  we had a long discussion last night about disposable diapers vs. cloth diapers.

  i know this decision can wait but i just like talking about my expectations early rather than end up with conflict later on.. i want to use cloth diapers and he thinks disposables are the way to go.

  Why not do both? My sister does. The new style cloth nappies (I'm UK hehe) are alot easier and the plastic pant things that go over are much better too, but I think you do still have to be careful with leaking but like you used to. Mix and match depending on what you are doing, disposable for out and about and cloth at home?
